CIA becomes latest intel agency to conclude COVID-19 likely originated from Chinese lab leak

The Central Intelligence Agency has thrown its weight behind the lab leak theory as the most plausible origin of COVID-19 in a "low confidence" assessment.

Without providing details about why the spy agency was changing its position, the CIA informed reporters of its new position on Saturday, just two days after John Ratcliffe was sworn in as the new director.

"We have low confidence in this judgement and will continue to evaluate any available credible new intelligence reporting or open-source information that could change CIA's assessment," a CIA spokesperson told reporters, per Politico.

The CIA's shift in assessment does not appear to be based on any significant new evidence.

On his way out, former CIA Director William Burns had called on the agency to take a stance on COVID-19's origins instead of staying neutral, sources told the Wall Street Journal.

Comment: This is a limited hangout. The more likely scenario is that US soldiers were infected with the virus at Fort Detrick in the USA. Those soldiers then traveled to Wuhan, China in October 2019 to compete in the Military Games, where they then spread the virus.

Slovakia to expel 'foreign instructors' plotting coup - PM

Slovakia will expel "foreign instructors" allegedly involved in destabilizing the country and aiming to orchestrate a Ukraine-style Maidan coup, Prime Minister Robert Fico announced on Friday. He accused foreign operatives, opposition groups, and foreign-funded NGOs of undermining his government.

Comment: Translation: He wants the CIA out of his country.

Fico's announcement follows a wave of anti-government protests and a series of cyberattacks on key Slovak institutions. Last week, the national information system suffered a major cyberattack, which Fico said was linked to another one targeting the state-owned General Health Insurance company on Friday. He described the attacks as part of a "textbook model" used to remove governments that dissent from Western policies.

Fico blamed foreign operatives for the attacks, and alleged they had ties to Ukraine's 2014 Maidan protests, which led to the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovich, and recent anti-government demonstrations in Georgia.

"Do not let yourself be swayed by these atrocities organized here by the opposition, non-governmental media funded from abroad, and well-paid foreign instructors who are on the territory of the Slovak Republic," Fico said speaking at a press conference. He added that the expulsion of these individuals is being prepared "in the coming days," without disclosing the names of people or groups involved.

Trump slaps Colombia with retaliatory measures including 25% tariffs for rejecting deportation flights

Colombian president later offered personal presidential plane for deportations

President Donald Trump pushed back on Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Sunday after Petro's regime refused to allow U.S. deportation flights to land in his country.

The U.S. had sent two flights of Colombian illegal aliens from the U.S. this weekend as part of Trump's burgeoning deportation program. Petro argued on X that the U.S. cannot "treat Colombian migrants as criminals," leading to backlash from Trump.

"I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia. This order was given by Colombia's Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people," Trump wrote on social media.

Comment: From Breitbart:
The president ordered an emergency 25 percent tariff on all goods coming into the United States from Colombia. He said the tariffs will be raised to 50 percent in one week.

Trump also imposed the following:
  • A Travel Ban and immediate Visa Revocations on the Colombian Government Officials, and all Allies and Supporters.
  • Visa Sanctions on all Party Members, Family Members, and Supporters of the Colombian Government.
  • Enhanced Customs and Border Protection Inspections of all Colombian Nationals and Cargo on national security grounds.
  • IEEPA Treasury, Banking and Financial Sanctions to be fully imposed.
Breitbart News' Alana Mastrangelo reported on Sunday that a U.S. official said the U.S. embassy in Colombia is set to close on Monday.

"In response to President Petro's refusal to accept two flights of Colombian deportees, which President Petro had authorized and were previously approved at the highest levels of government, U.S. Embassy Colombia is closing the visa section tomorrow," a U.S. official with knowledge on the matter told Breitbart News.
While deporting those with actual criminal records is the right thing to do (and there's a lot of them), taking the longer view, it's not hard to understand why people flee Latin American countries. It's been a playground for CIA 'fun and games' for decades:

Biden Admin quietly turned an obscure gov't agency into an arm of the trans lobby

Trump may dismantle it

Under the Biden administration, a little-known federal mental health agency quietly transformed into a hub for transgender activists, handing out millions in grant funds to researchers and activists for programs to support LGBTQ-identifying youth and adults.

Nearly $360 million in Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grants over the past four years were awarded to projects including the keyword "transgender," according to government data reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

President Donald Trump's day one executive order recognizing there are only "two sexes" instructed agencies to ensure grant funds are not used to promote gender ideology, making SAMHSA a likely target.

President Trump said Saturday he is considering sending nearly 90,000 newly hired Internal Revenue Service agents to guard the southern border, just days after he issued an indefinite hiring freeze on the federal agency.

The 47th Commander-in-Chief told a boisterous crowd of supporters that he could also fire the IRS employees, many of whom had salaries funded by $72 billion provided for the federal agency under the Inflation Reduction Act.

"They hired, or tried to hire, 88,000 workers to go after you and we're in the process of developing a plan to either terminate all of them, or maybe we'll move them to the border," he said during a rally at Circa Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Safe Reach Solutions is registered in Wyoming as a shell company of Two Ocean Trust, a competitor to Registered Agents Inc., and UG Solutions is founded by former undercover Army special ops soldier.

One of the two U.S.-based contractors set to operate a Gaza checkpoint, Safe Reach Solutions, is a shell company of the Wyoming-based generational wealth management firm Two Ocean Trust, LLC.

On Jan. 23, Axios named the U.S.-based company Safe Reach Solutions as one of three private security contractors tasked with overseeing an armed checkpoint which will inspect Palestinians as they return to their homes in northern Gaza.

The OpenCorporates listing for Safe Reach Solutions, LLC — as well as the original incorporation documents filed with the State of Wyoming — listed the registered agent as Two Ocean Trust, LLC and the filer as McDermott lawyer James H. Cundiff. The two firms also share the same Jackson, Wyoming address.

Russia expands its armed forces while West and Ukraine enter military crisis

Today, Russians want to defend their country - because they believe in their leaders - while Westerners and Ukrainians are disappointed and want to surrender.

A recent statement by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, brought to light a significant figure regarding the country's military mobilization in 2024: almost half a million citizens have enlisted in the Russian armed forces. The impressive figure of 450,000 contracted for regular military service and 40,000 volunteers for the special operation in Ukraine reflects not only the strengthening of Russia's military capabilities, but also a clear message about the determination of the Russian people and their trust in their government and its strategic guidelines.

This number of enlistments, which amounts to more than a thousand people going to recruiting centers each day, is indicative of a successful mobilization that not only meets the government's goals for the year, but also demonstrates Russia's ability to mobilize vast human resources in the face of continued military escalation. The enlistment rate is undoubtedly a reflection of both Russia's preparedness for the current tensions with NATO and the popularity of the government's measures among the country's citizens.

Here's what Trump 2.0 means for the US and Russia

Trumputin

The 47th president wants to end conflicts but not resolve them.

The flood of headlines about US President Donald Trump's first days back in the White House are stunning but unsurprising. We have grown accustomed to his hyperactivity. Yet, unlike eight years ago, the reaction now feels different. Back then, Trump's ascent was widely regarded as a political anomaly - a shock that many attempted to explain by pointing the finger at alleged Russian meddling. Trump himself seemed caught off guard by his unexpected victory.

Today, the picture has changed. The Republican's return to power is no accident; it is a deliberate comeback. He carries himself with an air of inevitability, bolstered by a party now united under his leadership and an establishment that, reluctantly or otherwise, has adjusted to his dominance. With control of Congress and a handpicked team ideologically aligned with him, Trump has two years to pursue his vision with minimal resistance. This time, his rhetoric could very well translate into reality.

Trump's worldview has been consistent for decades. Public declarations from the 1980s, long before his political career began, reflect the same core beliefs he holds today. Trump's ultimate goal is American supremacy - but not the liberal global leadership championed by his predecessors. His version of supremacy is transactional and utilitarian. Alliances, institutions, and relationships are only valuable if they benefit the US materially. Those that demand sacrifices without offering returns are liabilities to be discarded.

Trump's America is not interested in moral authority, global stability, or solving the world's problems. It is focused on extracting the maximum benefit from every interaction, whether in economics, security, or politics. If others refuse Trump's 'deal', coercion quickly becomes his preferred strategy.

Comment: Trump and Putin: Given various personal traits, perceptions, devotions, commitments - it's their upcoming 'combination to achieve' that may matter most.

The Pentagon's new Middle East policy chief wants to scale down US presence in the region

The Trump administration has appointed a new Middle East policy chief in the Pentagon who believes the US should scale down its military presence in the region.

Michael DiMino, a former CIA analyst, was sworn in on Monday as the deputy assistant secretary of defense for the Middle East. Before taking the job, DiMino was a fellow at Defense Priorities, a think tank that calls itself the "hub of realism and restraint" and advocates for a less interventionist foreign policy.

Jewish Insider reported that DiMino's appointment has alarmed pro-Israel Republicans due to his views on the region. The report cited comments DiMino made during a webinar last year where he said the Middle East does "not really matter" for US interests.
"Vital or existential US interests in the Middle East are best characterized as minimal to non-existent. And I think if you look at America's experience as the primary security broker for the region ... it has not rendered any lasting political, economic, or security benefits in service of US interests or the American people."
DiMino has opposed attacking Iran's nuclear facilities and war with Iran in general and has repeatedly called for the withdrawal of US troops in Iraq and Syria, citing their vulnerability to attacks.

How Trump's return reverberates in a war-torn African nation

New York • November 18, 2024
With the inauguration of Donald Trump as US president, the question of possible decisions by a new administration in regard to the crisis in Sudan arises.

The incoming Trump administration's involvement in regional crises, particularly in conflict zones such as Palestine, Lebanon, and Sudan, raises questions. During Joe Biden's presidential term, the US Congress demonstrated significant interest in Sudan, although the nature of this involvement remains unclear. However, the US special envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, did not visit until recently - despite his numerous trips to other countries in the region during his eight-month tenure.

Biden's administration did not provide much for Sudan, but rather pursued a policy that can only be described as always against the interests of the Sudanese state - and an extension of the plan to divide Sudan by supporting one party to the conflict (RSF, Rapid Support Forces) over the other (SAF, Sudanese Armed Forces).

What to expect from Trump?

Trump's policy appeared to emphasize sidelining multilateral institutions, such as the African Union, which he viewed as ineffective in addressing the conflict in Sudan. Reports from the United Nations suggested that the rebellion in Sudan was ostensibly supported by the United Arab Emirates, further complicating the situation. In response, the Trump administration shifted its regional strategy to form alliances with specific countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Qatar, to manage the Sudan conflict. This approach marked a departure from relying on broader international frameworks to address the crisis.
