US to 'get back' money spent on aid to Kiev - Trump

The US is going to "get back" the money it has spent on military and financial assistance to Kiev through the upcoming mineral deal with Ukraine, President Donald Trump said on Wednesday ahead of his first cabinet meeting. Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky will travel to Washington on Friday to sign the agreement, Trump added.

Trump had initially demanded the equivalent of up to $500 billion worth of natural resources as compensation for the aid provided to Kiev. Washington then proposed a deal that would grant the US sweeping rights to Ukraine's reserves of natural resources as a form of compensation.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Trump said that the Ukrainian leader "is going to be coming on Friday" and "that is now confirmed." The two sides are expected to sign what the US president described as a "very big agreement" that will cover Ukraine's reserves of rare earth metals among other things.

Trump doubled down on his claim that the US had spent $350 billion on various forms of assistance to Kiev, adding that "we've been able to make a deal where we're going to get our money back and we're going to get a lot of money in the future." American taxpayers "should not be footing the bill" for assisting Ukraine, he added.

The US president did not reveal the parameters of the future agreement.

Baltic/Black Sea power games and red lines intersect in a 'strange war'

Storage Facility

No one ever lost money betting on the batshit crazy "policies" of the ferociously yapping Baltic chihuahuas. Their latest power play of sorts is a drive to turn the Baltic Sea into a NATO lake.

The notion that a bunch of Russophobic sub-entities have what it takes to expel the Russian superpower from the Baltic Sea and pose a threat to St. Petersburg does not even qualify as cartoonish. Yet that is indeed part and parcel of NATO's re-configured obsessions, as their warmongering "vanguard" has been relocated to a London-Warsaw-Baltic chihuahuas-Ukraine axis.

What kind of black hole rump "Ukraine" will turn out to be after the end of the war - which may not even happen in 2025 - remains to be seen. What's certain is that in the case of a Ukraine exit - whatever the modalities - enter Romania.

The whole electoral farce in Romania - complete with the demonization of election front-runner Calin Georgescu - revolves around the upgrading of the Mihail Kogalniceanu base, which will become the largest NATO military base in Europe.

So, once again, this is all about the Black Sea. NATO wreaking havoc in the Black Sea carries way more savory prospects than NATO via chihuahuas monopolizing the Baltic Sea.

Ilya Fabrichnikov, a member of Russia's Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, has published a remarkable essay essentially focusing on the Black Sea (this is a short version on the Kommersant daily).

Fabrichnikov convincingly argues that from an European - EU/NATO - angle, what really mattered in Ukraine was "to move its borders, along with its military, political and economic infrastructure, close to Russia's, to put under full control the strategic Black Sea trade corridor - which easily stretches further north along the Odessa-Gdansk route - in order to more conveniently and quickly explore the economic spaces of Asia and North Africa, and to begin dictating its terms to Russian supplies of oil, gas and other resources needed by the European economy."

As this focused power play instrumentalizing Ukraine is unravelling in real time, a replacement is needed - even as warmongering Eurocrats keep peddling their Orwellian "peace is war" dementia non-stop, complete with a non-stop tsunami of sanctions and renewed promises of avalanches of weapons to Kiev.

This is a classic Brussels vassals affair - even as the toxic Medusa von der Lugen as head of the EC and Rutti-Frutti as the new head of NATO were essentially appointed by Washington and London. Collectively, Europe has pumped way more military-political funds into black hole Ukraine than the Americans.

The reason is simple. For Europe there's no Plan B apart from that mirific "strategic defeat" of Russia.

The EU/NATO Black Sea power play would make it even more imperative for Russia to connect with Transnistria. The only one who can answer whether this is part of the current planning is of course President Putin.

Denmark set to announce 'massive' rearmament plans

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said her government would announce plans on Wednesday for a "massive" rearming of Denmark's military due to the growing threat posed by Russia.

"We must upgrade massively to protect Denmark. And we must rearm massively to avoid war," Frederiksen told parliament on Tuesday.

She did not disclose any details or sums, but according to Danish public broadcaster DR, the government is expected to announce the creation of a 50-billion-kroner ($7 billion) fund for additional defence spending in 2025-2026.

Comment:
The recent spending efforts with the past donations to Ukraine could indicate that warring and militarism has become some kind of elite sport with large public support for being in the top. A screenshot of this Tweet shows the sentiments, though to be fair, the comments to the post include dissenting voices, also some that appear to be local.

Some background and context for the decision of the small northern european country of just six million to spend so much on rearmament.

1) Tuesday, February 18th, 2025: was one day after the Danish PM had been in Paris for a talk with other European leaders, including Mark Rutte, Secretary General of NATO.

2) Present was also Ursula von der Leyen:

In the above picture, the Danish PM is seated with Olaf Scholz to her left, with Dutch PM, Dick Shoof to her right, and fourth to the right of Ursula von der Leyen, with the red jacket.

The reason Denmark is the only Nordic and Baltic country present, can be explained by Denmark in 2025 having the chair of the Nordic Baltic Eight group (Wiki).

3) Looking at the image from the event, Urusla von der Leyen is seated more or less opposite Emanuel Macron, the official host. To her right is seated, (the guest of honour?), NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, who appears as if he is having the time of his life. Is the observation of significance? To find out, first we can look at, what Von der Leyen said about the meeting, then what Mark Rutte has been promoting over the last few months.

In the Tweet from the 13th President of the European Commission, the words are, in case the Tweet gets deleted:
Today in Paris we reaffirmed that Ukraine deserves peace through strength. Peace respectful of its independance, sovereignty, territorial integrity, with strong security guarantees. Europe carries its full share of the military assistance to Ukraine. At the same time we need a surge in defence in Europe.
Such a formulation ressembles what one would expect from a military alliance. Is there any connection?

The statements over the past few months from Mark Rutte might further show the background for the sudden Danish decision. Below are three articles from the months after the US election and prior to the meeting:

Donald Trump met the secretary general of NATO Mark Rutte
The secretary general of NATO Mark Rutte met the American president elected Donald Trump on Friday in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday, the spokesperson for the Atlantic Alliance announced on Saturday. 'They discussed all the global security problems with which the Alliance is confronted,' said this spokesperson, Farah Dakhlallah, in a short press release, without further detail.

NATO: Mark Rutte invites allies to double defense spending objectives

In his first speech after taking office as secretary general of NATO in October, Mark Rutte had already mentioned the importance of increased defence spending. At an event organised in Brussels by the think tank Carnegie Thursday, 12 December, the former Dutch Prime minister said : "We're going to need a lot more than 2 % [...], but let me be frank, if you just want to spend more and not spend more, you have to go up at least 4 %".According to him, the target of 2 % would allow the allies to be safe today, but may not be "in four or five years". Although he claimed that there was no imminent threat to NATO territory, he emphasized that the danger is closer "high speed". "No, we are not at war. But we are certainly not at peace no more", he said. "It is time to move to a state of mind in time of war."
In this article in French, there is if translated:
23 January 2025 at 11:41 from Boursorama.com:
Davos: Europe will finance American weapons intended for Ukraine, says Rutte

'Regarding Ukraine, we need the United States to also remain involved,' said Mark Rutte.

'If the new Trump administration wishes to continue to supply Ukraine from its industrial defense base, the bill will be paid by Europeans, I am absolutely convinced, we must be ready to do so,' he added.
4) There are still more perspectives, because apart from being asked to, Denmark has been an ardent supporter of the war efforts in Ukraine. In this regard, The Kiel Institute for World Economy has issue its 3rd report. Two illustrative diagrams show the support from different countries in Europe:

Is the Danish Government and its administration and supporters motivated by real knowledge, objective reasoning, programming, secret revelation, blackmail, power, ego, fear, psychopathy, or driven by powerful hidden forces few recognize? There might be more than one answer, depending on whom you ask.

Trump vows 25% tariffs on EU, claims bloc was 'formed to screw US'

Donald Trump has threatened to slap 25% tariffs on the European Union, claiming the 27-country bloc was "formed to screw the United States".

Speaking at his first cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the US president said he would soon release details of the latest tariff threat. "We have made a decision and we'll be announcing it very soon. It'll be 25%," he said.

The EU vowed to respond "firmly and immediately" to "unjustified" trade barriers, signaling that it stands ready to retaliate swiftly against new tariffs.

Sanders introduces new resolutions to block U.S. arms sales to Israel

Sanders
© FacebookVermont Senator Bernie Sanders
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is once again introducing legislation aimed at halting U.S. arms sales to Israel.

The Senator's office says that the four, new Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) would block $8.56 billion worth of weapons to the country. The proposed arms package includes 2,166 Small Diameter Bombs, 2,800 500-pound bombs, tens of thousands of fuzes, thousands of Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kits for use on bombs, 3,000 Hellfire Missiles, and 10,000 155mm High Explosive artillery shells.

Sanders, in a statement said:
"Israel had the right to defend itself against Hamas and respond to the barbaric October 7, 2023, terrorist attack, which killed 1,200 innocent people and took over 240 hostages. But Netanyahu's extremist government has instead waged an all-out war against the entire Palestinian people, killing more than 48,000 and injuring more than 111,000 - the vast majority of whom are women and children.

"Tragically, much of this carnage has been carried out with American bombs and weapons. Netanyahu has used our bombs to damage or destroy almost 70 percent of the structures in Gaza, including hundreds of schools. All of this has been done in clear violation of U.S. and international law.

"With Trump and Netanyahu openly talking about forcibly displacing millions of Palestinians from Gaza - in other words, ethnic cleansing - it would be unconscionable to provide more of the bombs and weapons Israel has used to kill so many civilians and make life unlivable in Gaza."
Sanders points out that the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 and the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) require such sales to be consistent with internationally-recognized human rights.

Comment: Another count has the number at 60,000 dead in Gaza. But other estimates report:
The official Hamas count that all sides like to cite is now over 48,000 deaths.

As American doctors back from Gaza before the Rafah closing last year said — just about everybody surviving in Gaza is sick, injured, or dying. They put the death estimate almost a year ago at a minimum of 95,000, not counting tens of thousands of families buried under the rubble when Israeli F-16s blew up entire apartment buildings.

Interestingly, the media has no trouble estimating the Syrian deaths at the hands of dictator Assad (500,000) nor the deaths in the wars in Sudan or Ukraine. Only the Palestinians, who are not allowed to live, don't get the respect of having their deaths accurately estimated.

In August 2024, based on available historical, empirical, and clinical records, we estimated about 300,000 Palestinians had been killed.
- August/September 2024 issue of the Capitol Hill Citizen

At 400,000 and growing, far more Palestinians have been killed in Gaza than the combined total of deaths from Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Dresden in World War II.

ISRAEL'S TEN VIOLATIONS OF INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL HUMANITARIAN LAW IN GAZA
  1. Genocide Count I. Killing Palestinians in Gaza.
  2. Genocide Count II. Deliberately inflicting on Palestinians in Gaza conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.
  3. Genocide Count III. Destroying hospitals and maternal care necessities intended to prevent births by Palestinian women in Gaza.
  4. Crimes against humanity. Extermination and persecution of 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza as part of a systematic attack directed at Palestinian civilians.
  5. Deliberately targeting civilians and civilian property for destruction.
  6. Failing to provide for the security and welfare of the inhabitants occupied by the Israeli Defense Forces in Gaza.
  7. Impeding delivery of humanitarian assistance.
  8. Forcible relocation of civilian population.
  9. Use of military force causing civilian casualties vastly disproportionate to the importance of any legitimate military objective.
  10. War of aggression against Gaza Palestinians.

What if Trump's peace talks are merely a pause in proxy war?

Circus tent

The high-level talks in Saudi Arabia last week between senior Russian and American officials have tantalizing potential to end the conflict in Ukraine.

Both sides agreed that the opening negotiations were productive. Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, noted that the U.S. side was in listening mode to comprehend the root causes of conflict, which, if genuine, marks a major improvement in the attitude of the Americans.

It is surely a huge relief that the world's superpowers are engaging in dialogue and diplomacy and stepping back from the brink of an all-out global war that would inevitably turn into a nuclear conflagration.

Nevertheless, it is too early to celebrate. The opening of negotiations is just a cautious start in a long process that could easily come undone with yet catastrophic consequences.

President Trump says he wants to end the war in Ukraine quickly. His spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said with unrealistic optimism:
"The president and his team are very much focused on continuing negotiations with both sides of this war to end the conflict, and the president is very confident [that] we can get it done this week."
This week? The hastiness of the Trump administration is cause for skepticism that the White House actually understands the root causes of the conflict.

Comment: Was Ukraine better off before the war or now? Given what we know about Zelensky and the magic pockets sucking up Biden Billion$, a decisive Russian victory may be the best and cleanest option for all factions involved.

The Eurocrats sold their souls to the Democrats but Trump came up trumps

TrumpFlag

Europe won't even be left with a baguette to dip in that soup or a Napoleonic onion to flavour it with, when Trump comes back to demand his alimony from the Democrats' European fifth columnists.

Far from being a no-fault divorce, the European Union has largely itself to blame for having POTUS Trump off-load it and ask for alimony as well. Although there are more reasons for this shattering of their marriage vows than there are pretend nations in the European Union, the chief reason for this further European self-immolation is that von der Leyen, Kallas and their minions put all their faith in the Democrats' graft machine, and not only did Trump romp home by a country mile but the Euro fat cats were too stupid to make provisions against Trump being victorious.

Although there are other reasons that can be cited, they all come back to that. Thus, though it could be easily argued that the Czech Republic, Poland and the Baltic pimple states are so anti-Russian that they would gladly fight on to the very last Ukrainian no matter who was in the White House, those Trojan horses owe their EU prominence, and much of their Russophobia as well, to being the playthings of the Democrats' USAID and National Endowment for Democracy.

A new disclosure by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to the House Judiciary Committee reveals that, under the Biden administration, the IRS leaked the taxpayer information of more than 405,000 Americans-including President Trump.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, began an inquiry into the leaks last year and with this latest disclosure has found that the scope of the leak was much larger than the Biden administration initially led the public to believe.

Spain proposes first move towards 'European Army'

The EU needs to achieve full strategic autonomy with its own military, the country's foreign minister has said.

The EU should develop its rapid deployment forces into the nucleus of the bloc's own army, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares told journalists on Monday prior to attending a meeting of top EU diplomats in Brussels.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas noted at the gathering that ministers were left "worried" by the recent changes in US foreign policy. Since his inauguration last month, US President Donald Trump has begun reestablishing diplomatic ties with Moscow, while demanding that European nations contribute more to NATO and take responsibility for their own security.

"The threat is European and therefore the response has to be European," Albares said.

The diplomat said he would urge the EU Foreign Affairs Council to reflect on how to boost the continent's defense capacity. Albares said:
"Capabilities that must include the ability to have rapid deployment forces that could even be the embryo of a European army. The bloc also needs to achieve 'strategic autonomy' and further develop its domestic defense industry and logistics."

A senior advisor to the ousted Conservative government defecated on someone's head at an orgy, one of the party's chief whips has sensationally revealed.

Simon Hart detailed the debauchery within the ruling party in his diaries. His memoirs cover the bizarre habits of his fellow party members in the dying months of the regime.

He covered the last 21 months of the Tory government before its momentous defeat at the last general election in July. While the diaries provided many shocks, there were two instances that stood out in particular.
