How Donald Trump discovers the art of political negotiation

TrumpPutin

We don't understand the negotiations in Ukraine and the Middle East because we don't understand the difference between wars and civil conflicts. We approach peacemaking as if it were a matter of dividing up common property during a divorce, after a few years of living together. But wars are of unparalleled intensity and are rooted in long-standing conflicts, often spanning several generations. Generally speaking, material conditions, suffering, and violence are of secondary importance compared to injustices.

We know nothing about the content of the negotiations the Trump administration has conducted with the Yemeni Ansar Allah, and we know only a very small amount about those it is conducting with Iran, Israel, and Russia. We know nothing more than a few statements here and there, not intended to make us understand what's happening, but rather to keep those who oppose peace at a distance and reassure those who hope for it.

Netanyahu says Hamas Gaza chief Mohammad Sinwar has been killed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that Mohammad Sinwar, Hamas' Gaza chief and the younger brother of the Palestinian militant group's deceased leader and mastermind of the October 2023 attack, Yahya Sinwar, had been killed.

Mohammad Sinwar had been the target of an Israeli strike on a hospital in southern Gaza earlier this month and Netanyahu said on May 21 that it was likely he was dead.

The Israeli leader announced that Sinwar had been "eliminated" in an address to the Israeli parliament as he listed off names of other Hamas officials that Israel had killed over the past 20 months, including Sinwar's brother Yahya.
"In the last two days we have been in a dramatic turn towards a complete defeat of Hamas," he said, adding that Israel was also "taking control of food distribution", a reference to a new aid distribution system in Gaza managed by a U.S.-backed group.

Hamas has yet to confirm Sinwar's death.

How Microsoft became a hub for Israeli intelligence

Last week Microsoft admitted providing large amounts of AI and cloud storage services to Israel during its genocide of Gaza, but said an internal investigation found no evidence the IDF "used these services to target or harm Palestinians."

This is not a serious claim and no one should take it seriously.

Just as Nazi Germany's crimes could not have been committed without the technology IBM provided to track, round-up and murder Jews, Romani people and the disabled, Israel's apartheid and genocide of the Palestinians would not be possible without Microsoft.

This week it was also revealed that Microsoft disabled the email account of the International Criminal Court's chief prosecutor Karim Khan, impeding the court's work on executing the arrest warrant for Netanyahu and other senior Israeli leaders.

This is no surprise.

The links between Microsoft and Israel are so long, deep and extensive it can be hard to see where Microsoft ends and the Israeli state begins.

'Tyranny in disguise': Will democracy survive in Europe?

Man and EU Flag
© iStock
- In 2022, the European Union adopted the Digital Services Act (DSA), which is supposed to "protect the rights of social media users" and "provide a safer online environment" by "limiting the spread of illegal and harmful content." What constitutes "illegal and harmful content" was not defined and could be anything the European Commission defines as such, along with the right to impose fines and shut the websites down.

- The reason given by Germany's domestic intelligence agency for designating AfD an "extremist organization" is neither fascism nor racism. In fact, not a single AfD leader advocates fascist or racist positions, and, what actually may be objectionable to many Europeans, is that AfD is "the most pro-Israel and philo-Semitic" party in Germany.

- This anti-democratic drift has taken hold in several European countries. Politicians and parties who disagree with the worldview of the officials in power are increasingly being excluded from any possibility of running for an official position...

- In France, Marine Le Pen, who polls show is in first place for the 2027 presidential election, was sentenced to five years of election ineligibility and four years in prison for allegedly embezzling public funds.

- Le Pen did not embezzle public funds.... The Democratic Movement, a centrist party led by French Prime Minister François Bayrou, did exactly the same thing as the National Rally with its MEPs' assistants, but Bayrou was acquitted by a judge.

- Most European leaders today refer to the parties and politicians they wish to exclude as "far right." The term is used to refer to racist, xenophobic and authoritarian parties. None of the parties mentioned above shows the slightest tendency toward racism, xenophobia and authoritarianism half as much as their opponents do.

- Many European leaders today appear blind to the consequences of ever-increasing immigration, and a growing Muslim presence in Europe. They are dismissive of the Muslims' continuing mass-migration, enthusiastic birthrate, and they remain stubbornly deaf to the concerns shouted by their non-Muslim citizenry.

Comment: Mind-muddled countries need to awaken from their fantasies and course correct.

Tory leader: Israel and Ukraine fighting 'justified' proxy wars for UK

Kemi Badenoch has said Kiev is fighting Russia on behalf of Western Europe, and Israel's war against Hamas serves London's interests

Israel's military operation against Hamas is a "proxy war" being waged on behalf of the UK, British Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch has claimed.

In an interview with Sky News on Sunday, Badenoch commented on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent claim that the UK, France, and Canada are on "the wrong side of humanity" for trying to pressure his country to end its campaign in the Palestinian enclave.

She dismissed the widely held belief that Israel's actions in Gaza amount to genocide, arguing that the brutal military campaign, initially against Hamas, that has killed at least 60,000 Palestinians, is both justified and serves the interests of the UK.

US to deny visas to foreign officials censoring US social media platforms

Marco Rubio
The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has said that not only will the Secretary of State deny visas to officials of foreign states who've censored American social media platforms, but to their "immediate family members" as well! Public has more.
Since taking office, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has taken a series of actions to push back against growing foreign government demands to censor American citizens and American technology companies like Google, Meta, and X.

In April, Rubio shut down the State Department's Global Engagement Center (GEC), which had funded censorship advocacy by the Global Disinformation Index, a UK-based NGO with ties to the Intelligence Community. Last week, Rubio said the administration was considering sanctions under the Magnitsky Act against Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes for his sweeping censorship edicts.

Benz & Tucker discuss America's hidden power network: NGOs, the CIA, and the rise of The Blob

Former State Department official and director of Foundation for Freedom Online Mike Benz sat down once again with Tucker Carlson, where he laid out a labyrinthine narrative about U.S. power and influence that should come as no surprise to those who have been paying attention. Benz described the role non-governmental organizations (NGOs), intelligence agencies, and private philanthropic empires have engaged in to quietly shape global and domestic affairs.

"NGOs are the stem cell of the government's central nervous system," Benz said, adding "They are this highly flexible tool...you can't disentangle or really separate the government from the non-governmental organizations."

According to Benz, the US often wields power through unofficial channels - increasingly through a network of publicly funded and privately directed institutions Benz dubbed "the Blob," a term originally coined by Ben Rhodes, a former deputy national security advisor to President Obama.

'Politburo' secretly ran Biden White House as aides were willing to do 'undemocratic things' to stop Trump

Biden Jill

Alex Thompson, co-author of the provocative new book Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, has ignited a firestorm across Democrat Party circles, asserting that a secretive cadre of aides ran the White House like a shadowy "politburo" to conceal President Joe Biden's failing mental health.

Thompson told The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg that he began questioning the White House's narrative about Biden's mental fitness in April 2023, after hearing concerns from administration insiders about Biden's capacity to endure a reelection campaign or another term. Despite repeated denials from the White House, which labeled such claims false, Thompson's reporting uncovered a different reality, eroding his trust in their statements. He described a tight-knit group of aides - referred to by some within the administration as the "Politburo" - effectively steering the White House. This inner circle, Thompson noted, included longtime Biden aides like Mike Donilon, Steve Ricchetti, Bruce Reed, and Ron Klain, alongside key figures close to the Biden family, such as First Lady Jill Biden, Hunter Biden, Jill's chief of staff Anthony Bernal, and deputy Annie Tomasini, who often serves as Biden's traveling chief of staff.

The term "politburo" refers to the elite inner circle of a communist regime, wielding unchecked power at the top.

Trump 'underinformed' on Ukrainian strikes against Russian civilians - top Putin aide

Yury Ushakov

The US president has been briefed on Moscow's retaliation, but not on Ukraine's wave of attacks that triggered the response. US President Donald Trump is apparently unaware of the Ukrainian "terrorist attacks" on Russian civilians that prompted retaliation from Moscow, Yury Ushakov, a top foreign policy adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has suggested.

Trump has rebuked Moscow twice this week over its strikes against Ukraine, claiming that Putin had "gone absolutely crazy" as he fired "missiles and drones into cities in Ukraine for no reason whatsoever." Later, he warned that his Russian counterpart is "playing with fire."

In an interview released on Wednesday, Ushakov told journalist Pavel Zarubin that the Kremlin is aware of Trump's criticism, but suggested that the US president "is not sufficiently informed about what is really happening in the context of the Russia-Ukraine confrontation."

"Trump knows only about the retaliatory measures we are taking," he said, Stressing that "Russia's strikes target only military infrastructure or defense industry facilities, Trump seemingly had not been briefed on "the increase in massive terrorist attacks carried out by Ukraine against peaceful Russian cities."

US has 500 troops in Taiwan in major challenge to China

The number of US troops in Taiwan was disclosed by a retired US Navy rear admiral in a recent congressional hearing.

A retired US Navy admiral recently revealed that the US has 500 troops in Taiwan, a major challenge to Beijing's red lines related to the island.

Ret. Adm. Mark Montgomery made the disclosure at a House hearing on May 15, where he was arguing that the US should send more military personnel to Taiwan.

"We absolutely have to grow the joint training team in Taiwan. That's a US team there that's about 500 people now, it needs to be 1,000," said Montgomery, who now works for the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD), an extremely hawkish think tank. "If we're going to give them billions of dollars in assistance, sell them tens of billions of dollars worth of US gear, it makes sense that we'd be over there training and working," he added.

Last year, Taiwan confirmed that some of the US military trainers were deployed to Kinmen, a group of islands that are controlled by Taiwan but located just off the coast of mainland China.
