Iran seizes 2 Greek tankers in retaliation for US seizure of Russian vessel carrying its oil

Iranian military operatives have seized two Greek oil tankers in the Persian Gulf on Friday. The Associated Press initially reported that the US Navy is "looking into" the reports. The tankers were boarded in international waters in the gulf, with the AP in follow-up saying that IRGC operatives now have control of the ships.

The IRGC has announced it is in possession of the seized vessels, with Bloomberg reporting, "The Guard's announcement comes as tensions remain high between Iran and the West over stalled negotiations regarding its rapidly advancing nuclear program." And more according to the AP:

Pakistan's economic crisis and ousted PM Khan's food & fuel deals with Russia

Iftikhar putin paskistan russia
Mr. Iftikhar clearly had his country's best interests in mind when responding to the journalist who asked him about this on Friday and should therefore be praised for articulating such a pragmatic stance on behalf of the new authorities, but he also unwittingly discredited some of their most influential supporters who insisted that it's impossible for Pakistan to refine Russian oil.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has consistently claimed that the Russian dimension of his independent foreign policy was one of the reasons why the US allegedly conspired with the opposition to scandalously oust him in early April, a charge that the new government has of course denied. Even so, he continued to lambast his successors for failing to continue the talks that he revealed that he was holding with Russia over heavily discounted imports of food and fuel, who in turn contentiously claimed that no such documentary evidence exists to prove that any discussions were ever held about this.

This makes it all the more surprising that these same new authorities suddenly said that they won't rule out such imports as reported by the reputable Express Tribune on Friday. According to the outlet, Foreign Office spokesperson Asim Iftikhar said that "Our policy is clear, you know in terms of expanding economic and trade relations, we have an open policy, driven by national interest - wherever we see there is a national benefit we pursue those options and avenues" when he was asked by a journalist about this scenario.

Russia warns US of 'consequences for global security'

Moscow's ambassador to Washington responded to media reports that the US will ship multiple launch rocket systems to Kiev. The risk of escalating the conflict in Ukraine would be considerably heightened if the US provides Kiev with long-range multiple launch rocket systems, Russia's ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, warned on Friday. Earlier, several US media outlets reported that the Biden administration had given the green light to the deliveries.

When asked for comment on the claims, Antonov said the allegations have to be verified first, and that so far, no official announcement had been made by US officials.

The ambassador expressed hope that "common sense will prevail, and Washington will not take such a provocative step," adding that he and his colleagues from the Russian Foreign Ministry had repeatedly warned the US leadership that the "unprecedented pumping" of weapons into Ukraine "considerably increases risks of an escalation of the conflict."

Antonov said that if the media reports are true, and the Biden administration intends to send M270 MLRS and M142 HIMARS systems to Kiev, the Ukrainian military would have the ability to strike Russian cities - which he described as unacceptable for Moscow.

Comment: US actions to arm Ukraine with long range missiles would defacto bring the US directly into the conflict. Has the US considered the long term and tragic implications or is it shooting from the hip?

Western leaders have many complexes - Lavrov

Western leaders believe themselves to be exceptional and are driven by delusions of grandeur and irrational fears, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov outlined on Wednesday in an interview with RT Arabic.

Referring to various regional economic integration groups and organizations that Russia participates in, Lavrov said:
"We know that our Western friends have many phobias, many complexes. They have a superiority complex, the infallibility complex, and I believe they also have some paranoia. Any process that does not include the West, which the West does not control, they perceive as opposition, a challenge to their dominance. It's high time for them to kick this habit."
The remarks came as Lavrov defended Moscow's opposition to the US and its allies, whom Russia accuses of imposing their will on other nations through unsavory methods. The drive to punish Russia with economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation in response to attacking Ukraine, in which Washington wants to enroll the entire world, is the latest example, the top diplomat said.
"The insolence of the Anglo-Saxon alliance has no bounds, and we find confirmation of that every day. The West sends its envoys and emissaries every day to every capital without exception... to deliver ultimatums and to blackmail."

Comment: No longer subtle, recognition of the West's total war on Russia:
The current behavior of the Western nations amounts to "total war on the Russian world," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday during a meeting with the heads of the country's regions. Russian society and major political forces support the government's decision to face this challenge, he added.
"Western nations are doubling, tripling, and quadrupling their efforts to deter our nation. They use a wide array of tools, from unilateral economic sanctions to totally deceitful propaganda in the global media. Low-level Russophobia, which to our deepest regret is promoted by a number of governments, has risen to unprecedented levels.

"The West has declared total war against us, against the entire Russian world. Nobody even hides this fact now. The 'cancel culture' targeting everything connected to our nation has become absurd."
Russia responded to the pressure with a uniting of "all healthy patriotic forces" and a surge of public support for Russia's foreign policy, the foreign minister outlined.

Lavrov also noted that the crisis has exposed the true nature of the promises given to Russia 30 years ago, after the collapse of the USSR:
"We now see the value of all the talk about universal values and the need to turn Europe into a common home from the Atlantic to the Pacific. No one should have illusions about the attitude of the US and its allies towards Russia."
The senior diplomat was speaking at a meeting of a Foreign Ministry council that includes all Russian regional heads as members. The advisory body regularly convenes to discuss how the diplomatic corps can assist various parts of the country. As foreign minister, Lavrov chairs the council.

Operation Z is the beginning of the end for Kiev's eight-year war against Donbass, US volunteer says

After eight years of their homes being shelled by the Ukrainian Army, Donbass inhabitants are hoping that Russia's special operation will put an end to this conflict, says Russell Bonner Bentley, an American volunteer who was given the codename "Texas" after joining the Donbass militia in 2014.
"Since the special operation, I can tell you that in the major cities of the Donbass republics, Ukrainian shelling has increased significantly. They're using Tochka-Us against our civilians. Now, the heavy shelling, particularly in my neighbourhood in the Petrovsky district (of Donetsk), people are being shelled at a rate they haven't experienced since 2014 or 2015. And so it's very hard.

"Eight years of war takes a toll on every single person from the soldier on the frontline to the little kid that was born in 2015, to the old babushka who is still just a pensioner and sitting on the front porch watching things develop.

"The people of Donbass and the volunteers, first of all, understand that Operation Z was absolutely necessary."
The veteran referred to Russia's special operation which was launched on 24 February.

Comment: There are a few versions of this conflict - from the West, Ukraine and Russia. In a match-up, this one may be fairly close to objective reality.

Tucker Carlson: Elizabeth Warren wants control over gasoline

Elizabeth Warren

When was the last time you heard a Democratic politician propose a solution to a problem — no matter what the problem is — that didn't make the Democratic Party more powerful? Ponder that for a moment. Let's say, for example, that you really believe global warming was an existential threat to humanity and that rising carbon dioxide levels were causing global warming. What would you do to fix it?

Well, you might think back to 10th grade biology class CO2. CO2, hmm. Don't trees consume huge amounts of CO2 for photosynthesis? Quick Google check. Why, yes, they do. So, how about we plant a whole lot more trees all across the country and across the world? That seems like a natural solution with lots of upsides. Trees are beautiful. It might help fight global warming. Oh, but no. There's a problem with that idea. Planting more trees might help solve climate change, but it definitely will not enrich your donors. Trees are cheap. It's hard to make money from trees. And worse than that, trees are impossible to regulate. Once you plant trees, they grow by themselves. They do not need federal help.

Trees definitely will not make you more powerful. So instead, here's an idea. Let's invest trillions of dollars of other people's money in batteries and wind farms and electric school buses. That way, Democratic politicians get fingertip control over the entire U.S. economy and all of their friends get rich. Sounds perfect. Let's go with that idea.

Comment: What's described is not an omen to come...it is already here.

WILFORD: Latest IRS Data Shows Taxpayers Continue To Flee High-Tax States

IRS sign
© Bigstock
It's a time-tested axiom for tax policy: the more you tax something, the less you get of it. Unfortunately for states used to subjecting their victims — ahem, residents — to punitively high taxes, that also holds true for the taxpayers themselves.

The latest IRS tax migration data, covering tax year 2019-2020, shows that the trend of taxpayers sprinting for the exits of high-tax states is only accelerating. It's no coincidence that the states known for treating their taxpayers like milk cows lost the most taxpayers — a loss that was the gain of states with more competitive tax codes.

The two biggest losers in this sense are, unsurprisingly, New York and California. New York lost, on net, 130,000 taxpaying households and $19.5 billion in adjusted gross income (AGI) from its tax base. California, meanwhile, lost 117,000 taxpaying households on net, along with a net of $17.8 billion in AGI in that one-year span alone. Illinois was third, but still lost a net of 51,000 households and $8.5 billion.

And for high-tax states, taxpayers voting with their feet is only becoming more of a problem. California and New York, for example, each lost more money from their tax bases than they did the previous two years combined. The amount New York lost from its tax base is about equal to the amount it lost from 2011-2015.

Kissinger turns 99, declared 'enemy' by Ukraine

Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger turned 99 on Friday and pro-Kiev activists marked the occasion by adding his name to its Mirotvorets ('Peacemaker') website. Labeled "an accomplice in the crimes of the Russian authorities," Kissinger was blacklisted after he called for a negotiated peace between Kiev and Moscow and a return to the pre-February status quo.

Created in 2014, the Mirotvorets website - whose homepage features a grizzly mosaic of dead Russian soldiers - is a publicly searchable database of what it calls "pro-Russian terrorists, separatists, mercenaries, war criminals, and murderers." These range from members of the Russian military to Western politicians like Hungary's Viktor Orban, who has opposed sanctioning Russian oil and gas.

Kissinger is accused by Mirotvorets of
"spreading narratives of Russian-fascist propaganda and blackmail... in exchange for the truncation of Ukrainian territory." These charges make him "an accomplice in the crimes of the Russian authorities against Ukraine and its citizens."

British mercenaries who fought in Ukraine face death penalty

Three suspected mercenaries from Britain and Morocco, who joined the Ukrainian military and were later captured by the forces of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), could be facing the death penalty there, the republic's General Prosecutor's Office said on Friday.

Viktor Gavrilov, the judiciary spokesman, revealed that an investigation into the activities of "a group of foreign mercenaries" who allegedly "took part in the preparation and implementation of hostilities against the DPR," had been completed and a criminal case had been "fully formed."

"The materials of the case have been transferred to one of the republic's courts for consideration which could result, taking wartime into account, in the application of capital punishment - the death penalty - to the accused," Gavrilov told journalists.

Comment: Mercenaries have been a long-standing complication in Ukraine since the U.S.-backed coup in 2014, as they have been in Syria, Yemen, and other targets of the Empire.

International opposition growing to Biden granting WHO pandemic powers - Africa leads the way

Opposition from African delegates to the 75th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland, has forced hours of informal dickering on possible revisions to President Joe Biden's proposals to grant new powers to the World Health Organization (WHO) to deal with viral pandemics.

As previously reported by The Epoch Times, Biden's 13 proposed amendments to the UN's International Health Regulations (IHR) that govern WHO operations grant broad new powers to Director-General Tedros Adhanhom Ghebreysus, a former Ethiopian government minister who has been in the role since 2017.

Earlier this week, Tedros was confirmed for a second term by the assembly, which is WHO's decision-making body.

The United States provides more than $150 million in assessed contributions to fund the organization and has given, on average, an additional $262 million in annual voluntary funding since 2012.
