The "X-flare factor" reemerged mid-month, alongside geomagnetic disturbances that may have influenced atmospheric patterns, triggering seismic releases, intensified storm systems like Hurricane Melissa, and unseasonal weather anomalies this month. We can anticipate similar events over the next few months.

The increased seismic and volcanic activity continued to wreak havoc in October:

  • Philippines (Davao Oriental): A 7.4 magnitude earthquake on October 10 offshore killed two people, triggered landslides, and caused a chemical spill; a 6.7 magnitude aftershock followed shortly after.
  • Siargao Island, Philippines: A magnitude 6.1 earthquake at a depth of 69 km on October 17 prompted structural inspections and resident alerts.
  • Western Türkiye: A shallow magnitude 6.1 earthquake on October 28 affected coastal areas, leading to minor damage reports.
  • San Remigio, Cebu, Philippines: Over 30 sinkholes appeared on October 5 in a quake-affected zone, complicating recovery efforts.
  • Aftershock sequence, Philippines: The October 10 event generated a 6.7 magnitude aftershock, part of ongoing tremors in the region.
  • Kīlauea, Hawaii: Record-breaking lava fountains reached significant heights on October 18, following 1,300-foot fountains earlier on October 1, with ongoing summit activity.
  • Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, Indonesia: Eruptions on October 1 and 15 sent ash columns 5 km and 10 km high, respectively, prompting evacuations.
  • Taal Volcano, Philippines: Multiple short-lived blasts on October 27 ejected ash over Batangas, raising alert levels.
  • Andaman Islands, India: Mud volcano erupted after two decades of dormancy on October 3, with minor emissions observed.
Widespread flooding from typhoons and heavy rains affected Asia, Central America, and parts of Europe, resulting in dozens of deaths and evacuations:
  • Mexico: Floods from October 11 left at least 250 dead and several missing, with widespread inundation in central and southern regions.
  • Nepal: Heavy rains on October 5 triggered landslides and flash floods, killing at least 47 people and displacing communities.
  • West Bengal, India: Landslides from heavy rainfall on October 6 killed 23 people and damaged homes in hilly areas.
  • Hue, Vietnam: Record-breaking 6 feet of rain in 24 hours on October 27 caused flash flooding, killing at least 10.
  • Honduras: Torrential rains on October 17 resulted in 15 deaths and severe flooding across the country.
  • Hurricane Melissa: Intensified to Category 5 on October 27, bringing death and flooding to the Caribbean; it left destruction in Cuba, Haiti, and Jamaica on October 28-29.
  • Typhoon Matmo: Made landfall in China on October 6, evacuating hundreds of thousands; its remnants caused 13.7 inches of rain in northern Vietnam on October 8.
  • Tropical Storm Fengshen, Philippines: Soaked the country on October 19, killing five and triggering evacuations.
Unseasonal snowfalls blanketed high-elevation areas from the Himalayas to Iceland:
  • Mount Everest region: A blizzard on October 5 trapped nearly 1,000 people on the Tibetan side, with heavy snow halting access.
  • Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, India: Nearly 2.5 feet of early October snow on October 8 affected roads and power supply.
  • Western Balkans: 2 feet of snow on October 4 left thousands without power and closed passes.
  • Carpathians, Ukraine: 19.6 inches of snow on October 1 blanketed the mountains, an early seasonal anomaly.
  • Reykjavík, Iceland: Record-breaking over 15 inches of October snowfall on October 31 impacted urban areas.
Meteor fireball sightings were reported in several countries, often with bright trails and sonic booms:
  • Moscow region, Russia: A giant green fireball broke up over the area on October 27.
  • Morocco (visible from southern Spain): An intensely bright meteor crossed the sky on October 18.
  • Connecticut and multiple regions: A fireball on October 4 was seen over eight U.S. states and two Canadian provinces.
  • Java Sea, Indonesia: A falling meteor created a bright fireball on October 6.
  • Brazil: A fireball illuminated the night sky on October 8.
