China's advantage is they take technology from the World and improve on it.Having dealt with many Chinese goods copied from the West, I have a hard time to find an improvement. Except of being cheaper.
If they like it that way - fine for them. Let the Chinese do their Chinese thing, ok with me.Good philosophy. Live and let live.
But unfortunately, a lot of things are interconnected and related, especially the human mind. Lacking ingenuity and the tendency to copy rahter then invent is the other side of that coin. They're forging ahead in many areas now. Supercomputers, AI, weapons...
I'd attribute this compulsion for conformity to communism, not to the Chinese. If you have ever been more then a few days to one of the former Soviet Republics, you know what I talk about ...Their culture/country is thousands of years old. Just that fact alone means it's extremely unlikely that that culture is substantially informed by a relatively recent ideological import.
You see brainwashed people participating in and watching that massive national day parade in Beijing. I see people who love their country.Playing the Nazi card ... many of those loved their country, too. And to quote Samuel Johnson, "Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel".
Their culture/country is thousands of years old.I guess our opinions very much diverge here. I put very little (say, almost zero) trust in the official history narrative. How much of China's thousands-years-history is penned by Matteo Ricci and Xu Gangqi ?
