The lava conduit filling the crater with lava at Halemaumau is receding at a steady pace and if it continues it will reach the water table and a steam explosion will occur as in 1924, which sent multi ton boulders miles from the crater and multi pound debris five miles and blanketed the island in ash. This ash will reach the continental USA and Canada. There is a tsunami threat if any part of the slump breaks off and slides in to the Pacific. Break through fissures are continuing in a straight line which is unusual and geologists are puzzled as Pu'u' O vent collapses and no more magma emerges from the vent. Be aware the threats are real and this explosion if it takes place will be the biggest in 100 years.

This guy is losing credibility in my eyes.

The 1960 Hilo tsunami was caused by a 9.5 earthquake in Chile not a flank collapse on the other side of the Big island. It killed 61 people not "thousands".

Records which only date back to the 1860's onwards (as the Hawaiian islanders did not keep precise records) only record three locally generated tsunamis with the last one being in 1975 which killed two people. These three tsunami events did not cause any cross the Pacific tsunamis and were entirely local.

So we have this view:

a major crustal adjustment can be expected to occur again on Kilauea's southern flank in the future. Such an event could occur in the mid-21st Century or even sooner - unless the stresses that are building up presently are relieved by aseismic slippage. When a flank failure occurs again a major earthquake with an upper magnitude limit of about 7.4 can be expected. As with the 1868 and the 1975 events a very destructive local tsunami will be generated.

The aseismic slip event on the southern coast of the island of Hawaii, was also interpreted as possible prelude to the triggering of another sudden, massive slope failure of Kilauea's southern flank. Computer modeling of such postulated, massive flank failure (Ward, 2001) forecasts that a Pacific-wide, mega-tsunami would be generated. The study concludes that most of the energy of the mega tsunami will be directed toward the southeast, in the direction of Ecuador, but that coastlines as far away as California, Chile, and Australia will be also endangered. Waves as high as 30 m have been forecast for the west coast of North America, and up to 20 m. high for the southwest Pacific.

I do not discount the latter and I would be in the line of fire if it does happen, but jeesh dude, at least do some research and get your facts straight before cranking out your hype reports.
