Almost a dozen students were reportedly killed in southern Kandahar after a suicide bomber set off a blast, according to TOLO.
The 11 students were near a madrassa - which is an Islamic religious school - when the bomber detonated a vehicle packed with explosives, local officials have said. The attack took place at 11:00 a.m. in Daman district.
The target of the bomb was believed to be Romanian troops on patrol in the area. Five Romanian soldiers and 16 others suffered injuries as a result of the attack. Several women were reportedly among the injured.
Comment: The target is believed to be Romanian troops, and this may be the case, but the majority of victims appear to be locals - including those who are attending an Islamic school.
Responsibility for the bombing has not been claimed by any specific group. The bombing took place several hours after a twin blast in Kabul claimed the lives of at least 29 people and wounded 40 others.
Last year, three Romanian soldiers were wounded in a car bomb near Kandahar Airport in September.
Insurgent-led attacks are often launched in the Taliban-controlled region.
