this is satire and not true [Link]
We live in a market economy; when there is profit to be made, a competitor arrives offering an alternative that has advantages... such as working as well or better, and at a low cost. So where is the alternative to the EpiPen? Don't blame her for not having a competitor.
Due to non-enforcement of many existing laws as well as through the creation of laws giving them preferential treatment, competition is strictly limited/controlled, public funds are very frequently used to invent/develop new procedures/treatments which are then privatized, price-fixing/collusion is rampant, etc., etc., etc.
Everyone has seen the cartoon where the hired floor painter has painted him or herself right into a corner. Well, so what? Just walk across the wet paint...collect your money and run.
But what happens if the wet paint has, through unanticipated chemical reaction, become a highly corrosive acid?
This is what happens to your soul when you corner the market.
It is eaten.
When it is eaten, you are gone.
And when you are gone, you are dead.
FOREVER.
But I am just being satirical.
Nothing like this could ever really take place.
