The two most recent have been said to be pretty large by the astronomers and a rare occurrence, even more so because two of them happened in such a short period. Perhaps they will soon see that they are not so rare anymore. A good thing is that they seem to be keeping a watchful eye in the sky.
Interestingly the still unresolved plane crash that killed one of the presidential candidates, which abruptly changed the direction of the election polls by bringing to the fore his former vice-candidate, happened on August 13. After reading a lot about the crash, it seems plausible that an electromagnetic effect could have caused or at least contributed to the crash (e.g., blackbox not working, sudden crash in a matter of a couple of minutes after last contact with tower). Or perhaps a directed EMP kind of thing.
