The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is, at its heart, a story of two peoples and one land. Both see history as their justification. Which means a historian who appears to change sides inevitably becomes a figure of enormous controversy. HARDtalk speaks to Israeli historian, Ilan Pappe who says the record shows that the Jewish state is racist; born of a deliberate program of ethnic cleansing.
Not surprisingly he's widely reviled in his home country. His work has been both supported and criticized by other historians. Before he left Israel in 2008, he had been condemned in the Knesset, Israel's parliament; a minister of education had called for him to be sacked; his photograph had appeared in a newspaper at the centre of a target; and he had received several death threats.
Comment: Good job, Ilan Pappe, on dealing with Stephen Sackur's slime-ball questions. It must be difficult speaking rationally with a moral and logical black hole.

Just finished watching it... this seems to me as a fine way for a soldier of truth to sharpen their swords of light.... by dealing directly with the various puppets of propaganda... the 'petty dictators'... though they make it hard to 'get a word in edgewise', the challenge does awaken the blood to the choice before you and keeps the channel clean of the disease of ease.... the ease of sleep and merely accepting things as they are because they really cannot be changed. That desire for change is the change, at least for the challenger.... and this seems to be just that... a jousting match... with Mother Nature perhaps as the judge.

I wanted to post it myself but I didn't know where to (other than the usual place but I couldn't find the vid at the time) I I watched this on tv, by chance (can't stand Sakur) & I just wanted to headbutt the telly! It's like he's either taking the p*ss, or he truly believes in this Israel democracy shtick & he's a frikkin robotoid. After the interview I looked up Ilan Pappe as I didn't recognize the name. Glad that Google came up with plenty of results (mostly vilifying him) of his books and YouTube vids. Might be worth posting his dated, but useful vid (YouTube) on Israel - Zion.

Just pressed 'play' and the moment I heard that announcer's voice, it seemed rather a turn off, as it didn't/doesn't sound 'right'... and I only now looked up at the image of the man. The voice seemed mechanical, like a machine speaking.... but as the minutes passed by, one gets used to it... and no longer thinks too much about that initial 'gut reaction'.... same in our lives... ponerize the system and get people acclimitized to the disease.... with the attended problem that one can get used to living with this disease, but its affects are cumulative and though our minds learn to ignore its presence, the disease remains in our body and slowly infecting every organ, every cell until we are completely 'dumbed down' and can no longer think for ourselves, if we ever could.
It seems this presenter of propaganda is doing a fine job of presenting the lies as truth, as accepted reality, same as most of history as we know it, as it's been presented to us by our teachers, who themselves were infected by the same disease... infected from birth to death... until we ourselves become a part of the spreading of this disease, most likely without even being aware of it... for if we were, we would have to choose whether to accept its presence in our body or cut it out.
