Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology chief Renato Solidum says movement in the Manila Trench off the country's western coast set off the earthquake Wednesday but it occurred deep under the ocean floor and did not cause any destruction.
Solidum says the quake was felt in metropolitan Manila and in the nearby provinces of Zambales, Bulacan, Pangasinan and in the mountain resort city of Baguio.
The Philippines is located in the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where earthquakes and volcanic activity are common. A 7.7-magnitude quake killed nearly 2,000 people in Luzon in 1990.
Running East-West from the ring of shaking are transverse lines of shaking.
I see something, as one large motion.
What is it?
Many possibilities run through my mind, but the motion seems somehow simplistic. Ockhams Razor: If the explanation is too complex, one is lost in forest because of the trees.
Since the end of the Last Ice Age, when the Ice Sheets melted, the oceans reached thier pinnacle of depth. Nothing much changes for 1,000's of years, raising only 1/8 inch per year, being quite stable. The Pacific is the largest body of water, and the weight is immense. It pushes down as water does... uniformly.
The C's mentioned isostatic rebound, and it gave me much pause. Why now, when the Ice Sheets are long gone? But the weight is now in the oceans.
Changes in the Earth's Magetic Pole and a weakend field, when combined with the weight of water works to shove the land around the Pacific Ring. Seems a bit more plausible than crustal plate rotation, magma currents and mantle convections.
Something was stirring today in NW Calif. People all around me were losing it and bolting, animals acting strangely in the past few days, as if in a uniform daze. I have an overwhelming sense of Nature/Creation about to intervene.
