Hastings said that in 32 years of investigating UFOs, he has interviewed more than 50 retired Air Force personnel, many of whom believe that Earth is being visited by extraterrestrial craft. Hastings says it is only a matter of time until the government discloses the truth about UFOs. "This is not science fiction; this is not Hollywood," Hastings said. "This is real."
When it comes to the subject of unidentified flying objects, also popularly known as "flying saucers," independent researcher and lecturer Robert Hastings of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina., says "we're all in for a real interesting future" when the truth about UFOs is revealed.
Hastings shared his views and research during a talk called "UFOs: The Hidden History" recently with a crowd of 200 in the Magale Recital Hall at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches,
Having lectured at hundreds of colleges and universities on the subject since the early 1980s, Hastings spoke before an audience made up mostly of students, although some visitors traveled from as far away as Baton Rouge to hear him speak.
Hastings discussed the modern era of the phenomenon, beginning in 1947, when reports of flying saucers began capturing the public's imagination.
A disinformation campaign, Hastings said, was used by the military, particularly the Air Force, to throw off the public. This was done, he said, by investigators saying a UFO sighting had been misidentified as "temperature inversions" or "marsh gas."
Hastings, who said he saw a UFO himself at a Montana Air Force base in 1967, said that formerly classified documents, since released to the public through the Freedom of Information Act, show that the military was aware of the "UFO reality." He said the military was concerned about these objects but knew that revealing these concerns would alarm the public.
"They decided to keep the public in the dark about this" subject, Hastings said, noting that the Air Force investigated UFO sightings until 1969. To this day, he said, the Air Force, the CIA and other U.S. agencies will tell the public their findings show these objects "do not pose a threat to national security."
However, Hastings pointed to the relationship between UFOs and their appearances at nuclear test sites and nuclear missile silos, particularly during the Cold War years, an issue he linked to national security.
He briefly discussed alien abductions, including the case of New Hampshire couple Betty and Barney Hill, who claimed they were abducted by aliens in the fall of 1961.
FOIA documents, copies of which Hastings displayed on an overhead projector, showed that a New Hampshire Air Force base had noted an "unknown target" in the vicinity of where the Hills claim they were abducted that night.
Hastings said that in 32 years of investigating UFOs, he has interviewed more than 50 retired Air Force personnel, many of whom believe that Earth is being visited by extraterrestrial craft.
"The majority believe that these events were a demonstration of some sort," Hastings said. "It was as if someone was telling them they were playing with fire."
Hastings closed by saying it is only a matter of time until the government discloses the truth about UFOs.
"This is not science fiction; this is not Hollywood," Hastings said. "This is real."
At least one audience member left convinced.
"I'm a believer," New Orleans resident and NSU student Lino Castigliola said.
In reference to Robert Hastings, prominent in your article, he tends to say a lot of things, most of which can't stand up to careful examination. He is, in fact, a well-confirmed liar and fraud, pure and simple. This has been repeatedly proven many times in the past. If you do the research yourself instead of taking his word for what happened during an event he was not present to witness, I'm certain you'll reach the same conclusion.
For instance, Robert Hastings' and Robert Salas' claims for the past 15 years regarding a centerpiece of their "UFOs and Nukes" lectures is one of those cases. Hastings' discussions of Robert Salas' claims involving asserted experiences during the alleged UFO events at Echo Flight and Oscar Flight in March 1967 fail to take into account the widely known facts of Salas' very poor credibility and his numerous, proven lies to the public regarding this matter. There were no UFOs involved at Echo Flight at all, and the incident at Oscar Flight never even happened. The men who have spread these lies, primarily Robert Salas and Robert Hastings, have done so for their own benefit, and they have proven to be both dishonest and wrong on numerous occasions in numerous ways. Both men are proven liars who didn't merely get a few facts wrong; they invented them entirely, and they did so to take advantage other people's desires to believe. This is how they earn their paychecks.
The only thing people need to understand about sources of information like Robert Salas and Robert Hastings can be summed up pretty quickly: if you can't trust them to tell the truth, why would you listen to anything that they have to say? They invent issues, write about them, and sell them to people; they charge outrageous fees for their lectures, and they sell videotapes and DVDs discussing their inventions as if they were factual. There is no basis in fact, however -- the lies they've told are indisputable. And yet you are elevating them to a level of reasonable sources of validated information, when they clearly are not.
I would recommend that if you are truly interested in understanding something about Robert Salas' or Robert Hastings' credibility, you go to the following URLs, where you can download at no cost a book and supporting articles discussing in some detail exactly how far they can be trusted:

These are free to anybody, and you'll never require an Amazon membership to learn a few of the facts. I would also recommend that you examine the numerous interviews and articles at the Reality Uncovered website: [Link]-- seven of the top eleven articles all discuss the events at Echo Flight and Oscar Flight in March 1967, and include interviews with both the commander and the deputy commander at Echo Flight on March 16, 1967 when the missiles were taken offline by an electronic noise pulse, an incident that was thoroughly investigated and very well documented. To this day, Robert Salas insists that both men confirm his claims of UFO interference, which both men deny strongly, while Robert Hastings refuses entirely to discuss the matter or answer any questions regarding the testimonies of the only men who were present during the alleged UFO incident, preferring instead to attack the integrity and credibility of those raising such issues. Hastings has even gone so far as to invent entirely the titles and alleged contents of various non-existent books relating epilepsy to paranoia and mental illness in order to suggest that one of his many critics shouldn't be trusted because of his epilepsy. Incredibly, he has also publically defamed the author of this missive by insisting that his own father "told him" about a nervous breakdown that has apparently been an ongoing crisis for over three years! Meanwhile, he refuses to answer necessary questions regarding his own numerous, proven lies, and has neglected as well to defend his own theories against numerous accusations of massive fraud and profiteering on a scale the UFO communities have only rarely been subjected to.
A lot information regarding this incident can be found at the Reality Uncovered forum, in particular the Echo Flight Incident thread: [Link] This thread also contains numerous communications with the above mentioned Dwynne Arneson, USAF Lt.Col. Ret. โ Communications centre officer-in-charge, and show that his claims are also silly little chimeras without inherent worth or a single word of truth to speak of. All three men are proven liars who have created fiction and called it fact, something anyone willing to actually do the research can determine very readily for himself, as the events -- contrary to the claims of Hastings and Salas and Arneson -- were declassified before 1980.
Tim Hebert, an ex-USAF missileer himself, has also written some enlightening articles regarding the case on his blog at: [Link]
Dr. David Clarke, for many years an accepted expert regarding the British military forces' investigations of the UFO phenomenon for many years, has also discussed this case in the context of the "UFO and Nukes" connection asserted by author Robert Hastings. You can read his article on the subject at [Link]
The lies currently being spread by Robert Hastings and Robert Salas have not merely been dismissed as one possible interpretation of their claims, they have been repeatedly proven as lies by witness testimony and documented evidence. There is no doubt whatsoever that they created this case for their own benefit. There were no UFOs involved -- it is a lie, and nothing more. Witnesses that both men have presented to the public have actually come forward to dispute the claims these men have made. They insist that their statements were taken out of context and distorted purposely in order to suggest the presence of UFOs where no such presence could otherwise be established. Salas and Hastings have perpetrated a UFO hoax of the worst sort, and have attempted to destroy the reputations and career service of better men than themselves, all to sell their books and enable them to charge outrageous prices for their public speaking tours, lectures, and videos.
The bottom line is simple: if they cannot be trusted to tell the truth, why would anybody believe anything at all that they have to say? Both men have proven themselves to be dishonest, so any information regarding this issue that they are being paid to discuss should not be trusted at all. These men have told numerous lies to support their assertions, and that should be taken into consideration whenever they present such doubtful claims as those they have repeatedly consigned to the public trough.
