Heavy rains spawned by thunderstorms brought about by easterlies triggered flash floods that killed two residents in President Roxas town, Cotabato province, on Tuesday night, a local official said on Wednesday.

President Roxas Vice Mayor Jaime Mahimpit said the bodies of Luzviminda Dubria, 69, and Ging Ging Fortunado, 44, a person with disability, were found in separate areas in the rice fields of Sitio Upper Ipuan in Barangay Poblacion, at least a kilometer away from the area where they were last seen.

Letecia Dubria, a relative of one of the victims, said a landslide hit Sitio Ipuan on Tuesday night, followed by the flash flood that hit the victims' houses. "We were aware that they were [swept] away by flood waters but we didn't know what to do. It was nighttime and the current was very strong, so we never ventured out," Dubria told the Inquirer.

Monsoon rain in Lahore shattered 30-year-old records, and lead to the deaths of seven persons across the city.

It all started with light shows in the wee hours of Wednesday but eventually picked pace which lead to urban flooding in several areas including Gulberg, Walton, and Mall Road.

The metropolis witnessed severe urban flooding, after record-breaking rain of 291 millimeters in 10 hours which took the lives of seven people while several suffered injuries. Besides the casualties, torrential rain caused damage to infrastructure.

Flood kills 10, destroys over 200 houses in Katsina, Nigeria

Ten persons have been killed and over 200 houses destroyed in Katsina State capital and Bindawa Local Government Area of the state, as heavy rain overran buildings and roads in the neighbourhood causing havoc.

According to residents of the affected areas in the Katsina metropolis, the heavy rain started at 4p.m., on Tuesday till late night of the same day.

Ungwan Sabuwa, along the Kofar Kaura axis, is said to be the worst hit by the downpour in the Katsina metropolis.

When Vanguard visited the neighbourhood, yesterday, residents were seen making efforts to evacuate their belongings from buildings submerged by the flood.

Floods inundated parts of the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator after torrential rain damaged a dam at the Selbe River on Wednesday.

At least 27 residential buildings and hundreds of vehicles were flooded inBayanzurkh district, the country's National Emergency Management Agency said in a statement.

Five other districts were also impacted as a result, reports Xinhua news agency citing the statement as saying.

The water levels in the central and eastern parts of the country have exceeded warning levels due to the prolonged round of rainfall that began Sunday night, with more expected through the end of the week.

The weather agency urged residents living near rivers and lakes to take precautions.

Hailstorm affects more than 20,000 hectares of crops in Valencia and Castellon, Spain

The historic hailstorm in Valencia yesterday, with ice stones the size of nuts, had a strong impact on a large area of crops in numerous areas of the provinces of Valencia and Castellon. According to an initial estimate made by the Valencian Association of Farmers (AVA-ASAJA), "the hailstorm affected more than 20,000 hectares of agricultural land. It caused variable damage to the crops, affecting 100% of the production in some fields. The storm affected the Coastal, l'Horta, and Alto Palancia regions the most. The crops that suffered the most losses were citrus, kaki, almond, and olive crops."

"In the Coast region, the storm caused serious damage in hundreds of farms in Montesa and Vallada. There are oranges, mandarins, and kaki fruits that were struck six to seven times by the hailstorm. In the most severe cases, producers lost the entirety of their crop and the hail even caused damage to the plants that could weaken them and reduce next year's productivity. There are also damages in crops in nearby areas, such as Aielo de Malferit, in the Vall d'Albaida."

15 people killed in lightning strikes in Bihar, India

Fifteen people were killed after being struck by lightning in eight districts of Bihar in the last 24 hours, officials said on Wednesday.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed condolences over the death of 15 people due to lightning and announced an ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh to each of the deceased's family members.

Kumar also appealed to the people of the state to remain alert and stay indoors.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on Wednesday, Rohtas district reported five deaths followed by two each in Katihar, Gaya and Jehanabad. Besides, Khagarai, Kaimur, Buxar and Bhagalpur recorded one death each.

The CM also urged people to follow advisories issued by the Disaster Management Department. Nine people were killed due to lightning in seven districts in the state on Tuesday.

Six people died in the last 24 hours after being struck by lightning in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh district.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolence over the loss of lives and has instructed officials to give ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.

In the first incident, five people who had gone to the fields along with their cattle, were struck by lightning in Niyamatpur village of Mehnagar police circle.

Four died on the spot.

Twenty-one people were killed and several injured in lightning strikes in different parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Eight people were killed after being struck by lightning in Bundelkhand and Fatehpur on Wednesday. Six of the victims were women.

Four people died in Fatehpur district. The victims include two teenage girls who had taken the goats to graze. Two other girls were injured and undergoing treatment, said the police. Two more persons were hit by lightning in their field and died, the police said.

In Hamirpur, lightning struck a house and went through the roof to hit a woman, Sunita, 38. She died on the spot.

Two people, including a woman, died in Chitrakoot. A man was hit in a mango orchard in Bahilpurwa and the woman in Ram Nagar. A woman died in Jalaun after lightning fell on her when she was on her way back to the house from the fields.

In Prayagraj and Kaushambi districts, three persons, including a girl and a boy, died while two received burns in separate incidents of lightning strikes, on Wednesday. The injured were admitted to the nearby hospital.

In Bhui village of Handia, Kajal Bind, 12 and her younger brother, Atul, 8, were returning home from a nearby shop when lightning struck. The duo was rushed to hospital where Kajal was declared dead.

In Araw village of Handia, Ramji, 65, was grazing his buffaloes when he was injured due to lightning strike. Ramji was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

A brick kiln owner, Amar Bahadur Singh, was injured when lightning struck in Rajapur of Ghoorpur area.

In another similar incident in Kaushambi, 12-year-old Ankaj Kumar, son of Chandrashekhar, was grazing cattle on the banks of the Yamuna in Bunda village of Pipri area. Ankaj died on the spot when lightning struck.

Four people died in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Ghazipur, officials said on Wednesday. Naseeruddin, alias Babu, (55) and Ikram Ansari (28) were struck by lightning at Cheetnath Ghat on the banks of the Ganga on Tuesday, they said.

Suraj Rajbhar (10) and Durga Devi (48) were struck by lightning in the Shadiabad area, the officials said. The district administration said family members of the victims will be given financial assistance as per the norms after the post-mortem examination of the bodies.

Six people were killed and one child was injured after being struck by lightning in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh district on Tuesday. The district administration said that five people died in Barwa Sagar which comes under Mehnagar police station, and in another similar incident, one person died in the Maharajganj area of the district.

"So far, six people have been electrocuted in the district. One child is injured, who is being treated. Family members of all the deceased will be provided with a fixed amount within 24 hours," district magistrate Vishal Bhardwaj said.

M Devraj, chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), has issued directives to prevent accidents, involving especially outsourced workers of the electricity department during the monsoon season and has directed officials to ensure strict compliance with the directives.

Earlier, on Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths that occurred in the Azamgarh and Ghazipur districts, due to lightning strikes.

The chief minister also announced a relief amount of ₹4 lakh for the deceased's family members. In addition, he also directed for proper treatment of the injured.

South-west China's Sichuan province and Chongqing municipality have been hit by severe flooding triggered by heavy rainfall over the past month.

According to state broadcasters, authorities dispatched rescue personnel to evacuate residents from the affected areas.

Rising water levels have caused landslides and submerged homes and infrastructure in water, hindering evacuation efforts.
