Waterspout caught on video in Tulum, Mexico

A waterspout surprised visitors to the beaches of Tulum over the weekend, a characteristic phenomenon of the rainy season.

Kilometers away, tourists on the beach in Quintana Roo observed the gray funnel that connected with a cloud in the sea.

A video when the whirlwind seemed to connect the sky and the sea circulated on social media.

The phenomenon did not generate any inconvenience other than the amazement of the people who witnessed it.

Lightning claimed four lives in Gwalior district on Tuesday evening. Another villager was severely injured.

These are the first pre-monsoon deaths in the state. The victims — Sushi Tiwari, 68, Brajbhan Parmar, 45, Hari Singh Kushwaha, 35, and Bali Kushwaha, 40 — were residents of Karahiya village, around 50km from Gwalior.

"They own some land near a canal around 2km from their village.On Tuesday evening, they had gathered there, along with the local patwari, for demarcation of land. It started raining and they took shelter under two jamun trees.

Unfortunately, lightning hit the tree, killing the four men on the spot," Bhitarwar subdivisional police officer Jitendra Nagaich told TOI. A fifth person, Uday Bhan, is in a critical condition in hospital, he added.

Lightning strike kills 2 shepherds in Andhra Pradesh, India

Two shepherds died after being struck by lightning, and two others were injured in Kurnool district on Sunday night.

According to the police, the deceased were identified as Kameshwari, 35, and Sunkanna, 47, residents of Ramalingayapalli village in Tuggali mandal.

The incident took place when they were grazing a herd of sheep in a nearby hill area.

Kameshwari and Sunkanna died on the spot while two other shepherds were injured in the incident.

The Tuggali police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Fresh snow is expected to fall from Oregon to Montana

While many Americans are cementing their plans for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, mountain peaks across the northwest are sporting a fresh coat of white.

Timberline Lodge, located on Mt. Hood, Oregon, reported a whopping seven inches of fresh snow had fallen by Sunday, June 16th, 2024. Check out photos captured on the resort's webcams below.

Torrential rain results in flooded streets in Chetumal, Mexico

Crews began the massive task of a city wide cleanup Saturday after the state's capital city was left severely flooded. More than 80 mms of rain hit the city of Chetumal within a few hours, leaving 120 of its 147 neighborhoods under water.

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa arranged for immediate help to begin sorting out the wet city mess. Chetumal workers hit the streets to clear clogged drainage wells while others were sent with industrial pumps to begin moving standing water.

Military personnel were also sent to help stranded residents. At least one elderly person required a medical transfer from their flooded home after becoming stuck inside.

Boxes and bags of basic food items were delivered to families in areas in need of assistance. Meals were delivered by hand to volunteers who were helping in the mass clean up.

Heavy rainfall triggers flooding on 22 rivers in China - 5.5 inches of rain in a day

Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in 22 rivers in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the regional hydrology centre reported on Sunday.

According to the centre, a total of 30 hydrologic stations in 22 rivers in Guangxi reported water levels between 0.03 and 2.63 metres above the warning levels, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Hezhou hydrologic station of the Hejiang River reported the largest flooding in a decade. From 8 a.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday, heavy rains lashed about half a dozen prefecture-level cities in Guangxi, including Hechi, Liuzhou, Yulin, Hezhou and Baise.

One township in the city of Hechi and another in the city of Liuzhou saw precipitation of around 140 mm within the day. The centre also predicted that the water levels in some swollen local rivers will continue to rise by up to one metre in the next 24 hours.

Rising waters quickly made several major roads impassable.
Flooding and landslides have killed eight people in Abidjan, Ivory Coast's biggest city, after heavy downpours.

This was contained in an updated report published by the fire service on Saturday.

Roads were cut off as rain fell on Thursday afternoon in most areas of the city with a population of six million.

In its latest statement, the fire brigade said 18 people were evacuated to hospitals.

Parts of Moscow were flooded due to heavy rainfall on Thursday, disrupting public transport and submerging cars and homes across the Russian capital.

The rains caused one of the city's rivers, the Yauza, to overflow near Aqueduct Park in northeastern Moscow.

Muscovites could be seen navigating through thigh-deep water, while ducks from the Yauza swam along pedestrian paths, local media reported.

In the Moscow suburb of Shchyolkovo, two people were reportedly killed by a fallen tree.

The Moscow region has been hit by three "abnormally" rainy days in a row, with some districts in the capital receiving nearly a month's worth of rain, the Phobos weather center said.

A heavy downpour occurred in Ankara after the General Directorate of Meteorology warned the city.

The rain resulted in water accumulation on the roads of several districts, causing traffic to stop.

Ayaş Road was closed temporarily while many drivers waited for the water to drain.

Some stranded vehicles were towed using work machines and forklifts.

Metro services were also stopped due to flooded entrances, and water evacuation efforts are still ongoing.

9 dead, 1,200 tourists stranded in Sikkim, India after cloudburst triggers flash floods - 8.6 inches of rain

Incessant rains caused by a cloudburst in Sikkim's Mangan district - measuring over 220.1 mm - on Wednesday night killed nine people, the state's government said.

According to the state's tourism department, over 1,200 domestic tourists and 15 foreign nationals - 10 from Bangladesh, three from Nepal, and two from Thailand - are stranded in the Lachung village, some 50 km from Mangan town.
