Greece hit by intense summer storms: Roads turn to rivers, fires sparked by lightning

mmmmmmm
Severe storms wreaked havoc across multiple regions of Greece, causing widespread flooding and fires as lightning struck during the torrential downpours.

Areas such as Kilkis, Veria, and Ioannina were particularly hard-hit, with heavy rainfall transforming streets into rivers and creating dangerous conditions for residents.

In several parts of the country, including Pella, Giannina, Thessaloniki, Kozani, and Korinthia, summer weather was abruptly interrupted by severe thunderstorms.

Veria faced extreme difficulty as heavy rain combined with lightning strikes, making roads nearly impassable. Emergency crews worked quickly to remove water from inundated areas.

Catastrophic flood devastates village in Nepal as one person goes missing

mmmmmmm
Thame village, located in the scenic Khumbu region of Solukhumbu district, has always been a peaceful place, home to communities that depend on the region's natural beauty and tourism. However, on Friday, the tranquility was shattered as the village became the epicenter of a devastating flood.

Although no deaths have been confirmed so far, one person is reportedly missing. The picturesque village quickly turned tragic as it was transformed into a scene of devastation as severe floods, triggered by the rapid melting of glacial ice, swept through the area, leaving a trail of destruction.

Thame, a Sherpa village at about 3,800 meters above the sea level, is not only the home of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, the first to summit Everest alongside Edmund Hillary, but also of record-breaking climbers like Kami Rita Sherpa, who climbed Everest for a record 30th time this year.

The disaster began around midday when reports of an avalanche near Thame village started filtering in. Consequently, a rescue team of the Nepalese Army was immediately dispatched to the scene, along with necessary equipment which reached the site in some hours. However, the scope of the catastrophe was beyond expectation.

At least 54 people were killed in floods that hit the Tibesti region in the far north of Chad's desert.

The governor of the region said in statements Thursday that the torrential floods caused by heavy rains that continued for several days killed at least 54 people in six districts in the Tibesti region, and swept away thousands of shops and cars.

For its part, the National Meteorological Agency in Chad explained that the floods were caused by heavy rains that were considered higher than the normal rates in the region, noting that what happened is considered a climatic phenomenon that occurs every five to ten years.

It is worth noting that floods are common during the rainy season in Chad, which usually extends from May to October in the southern regions.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in West and Central Africa warned, in a statement published last Tuesday, of the severity of heavy rains and floods in the region, especially in Chad.
