An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 was recorded near Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands, which are a part of United States territory in the western Pacific Ocean, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported on Monday.

According to the report, the earthquake occurred at 3:36 a.m. local time, at a depth of 42.9 kilometers, and had an epicenter 262 kilometers northeast of Saipan.

No tsunami warning has been issued by the US Tsunami Warning Center.

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck off the southern tip of British Columbia's Haida Gwaii around 3:30 p.m. local time on Sunday afternoon.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the M6.5 quake was centered about 265 km south of Prince Rupert, B.C., and it occurred at a depth of 33 km beneath the surface.

The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center said that there was no threat of a tsunami from this earthquake

A magnitude-6.3 earthquake struck in the Bismarck Sea off the coast of Papua New Guinea on Thursday, the United States Geological Survey said.

The shallow quake located far from land produced no tsunami warning or immediate reports of damage.

It was centred about 224 kilometres (139 miles) northeast of the city of Madang, located along the country's northern coast.

Earthquakes are common in Papua New Guinea, which sits on top of the seismic "Ring of Fire" -- an arc of intense tectonic activity that stretches through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific basin.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 jolted 128 km East of Ohonua, Tonga, at 11:39 local time on Sunday (GMT+13; 22:39 GMT on Saturday), the US Geological Survey (USGS) said, Report informs via Xinhua.

There were no immediate reports of casualty or damage.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10 km, was determined to be at 21.293 degrees south latitude and 173.720 degrees west longitude, according to the USGS.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not immediately issue a tsunami warning based on the quake.

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake rattled Papua New Guinea on Thursday, the United States Geological Survey said, striking off the country's northern coast.

A USGS map showed the tremor centered in a patch of ocean some 300 kilometers (186 miles) east of the town of Vanimo, which is preparing to host Pope Francis over the weekend.

A photographer based in the provincial capital of Wewak told AFP there did not appear to be major damage in the immediate aftermath of the quake.

Earthquakes are common in Papua New Guinea, which sits on top of the seismic "Ring of Fire"—an arc of intense tectonic activity that stretches through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific basin.

A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake has struck Bougainville Island in Papua New Guinea, with strong shaking felt across the area, according to seismologists. There was no immediate word on possible damage.

The earthquake, which struck at 7:13 a.m. local time on Monday, was centered near Tokuaka on the southern coast of the island, about 178 kilometers (111 miles) southeast of Buka.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.4, down from an initial estimate of 6.6. It struck at a depth of about 41 kilometers (25 miles), making it a relatively shallow earthquake.

An estimated 32,000 people live within 30 kilometers (18 miles) of the epicenter, according to the United Nations.

A very strong magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred in the North Pacific Ocean 355 km (221 mi) from Kamchatka, Russia, in the early afternoon of Friday, Aug 30, 2024 at 3.24 pm local time (GMT +11).

The quake had a very shallow depth of 28 km (17 mi) and was felt widely in the area.

The shallow depth of the quake caused it to be felt more strongly near the epicenter than a deeper quake of similar magnitude would.

No significant damage or impact is expected from this quake and no particular alert was issued.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck off the coast of El Salvador on August 28, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), with the effects felt in the capital, San Salvador, and elsewhere regionally.

The quake's epicenter was located approximately 60 kilometers (37 miles) southwest of La Libertad, the USGS said.

Multiple aftershocks were registered. However, no injuries or damage were reported, Nayib Bukele, El Salvador's president, said.

A strong 6.9-magnitude earthquake has struck the Pacific Ocean near Tonga, according to seismologists. There were no immediate reports of serious damage and no tsunami warnings were issued.

The earthquake, which struck at 12:29 p.m. local time on Monday, was centered in the ocean about 9 miles (15 kilometers) from the volcanic island of Tofua, or 87 miles (140 kilometers) north of the capital Nuku'alofa.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.9 and struck about 66 miles (106 kilometers) below the seabed, making it a relatively deep earthquake.

A resident in Nuku'alofa said the earthquake could be felt in the capital and lasted more than one minute. There were no immediate reports of serious damage or injuries.

Magnitude 7.0 earthquake strikes off Russian Far East

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck off the coast of Russia's Far East Kamchatka Peninsula early Sunday morning local time, according to the regional earthquake monitoring service.

The local emergencies ministry said tremors were felt along the coast including in the region's capital Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

"Operational teams of rescuers and firefighters are inspecting buildings," the regional branch of Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry in the Kamchatka region said on Telegram.

The earthquake struck at a depth of nearly 50 kilometers just after 7:00 am local time, some 90 Kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the United States Geological Survey reported.
