A strong earthquake with a Richter scale magnitude of 6.0 hit off Sulawesi Island in Indonesia on Saturday, the US Geological Survey reported.
The earthquake struck at 19.51 local time (1251GMT), approximately 165 kilometers (102 miles) from Gorontalo City, according to the USGS.
The earthquake had a depth of 97 kilometers (60 miles), with the epicenter 35 kilometers (21 miles) northwest of Pohuwato, according to Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
The earthquake has no potential for causing a tsunami, the agency added.
A 7.4 earthquake struck the Drake Passage, located between Cape Horn and Antarctica, at a depth of just 10 km (6 miles) on Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake triggered a tsunami warning, prompting Chile's National Disaster Prevention and Response Service to issue evacuation orders for coastal areas in the Magallanes region, located at the southern tip of the country.
Chile's President Gabriel Boric took to social media to urge evacuations, stating that all state resources would be mobilised to respond to the situation. Videos shared on social media showed residents calmly evacuating as sirens sounded in the background.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck near the Macquarie Island in the Pacific Ocean on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The quake was registered at 2:53 pm UTC at a depth of 10 kilometers, in the region of the subantarctic Macquarie Island, which is located about halfway between New Zealand and Antarctica in the southwestern Pacific Ocean and has no permanent inhabitants.
Meanwhile, a little bit earlier, at 1:16 pm UTC, another earthquake was registered closer to New Zealand, marking a magnitude of 6.2. Its epicenter was recorded 286 kilometers southwest of New Zealand's seaport town of Bluff, which has a population of 1,840 and is located on the southern coast of the country's South Island.
The US Tsunami Warning Center issued no tsunami warnings following the earthquakes.

The quake occurred at 9:43 p.m. ET, with its epicenter located on the southeast Indian Ridge. It struck at a preliminary depth of approximately 6.2 miles (10 kilometers), according to USGS data.
The location was remote, far from any populated areas. The nearest settlement was Augusta, in Western Australia, more than 1,200 miles (1,966 km) away. The USGS data showed that no population was expected to have felt the tremor.
No tsunami advisories or warnings were issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), which is also responsible for issuing alerts for tsunami threats in the Indian Ocean.
