UK: Two sightings of mysterious silent UFOs

Two UFOs have been seen in the Grantham area in recent weeks after a lengthy period of no sightings.
Ken Charlton spotted a mysterious glowing object in the Grantham area on Monday night.

The retired RAF aircraft technician saw an object about the size of a car between 1,000 and 2,000 feet up. It was moving from east to west at around 250mph and was flame yellow with a translucent dome on top.

The object moved silently.

Ken said: "First impression was of a small aircraft on fire, but it kept the same altitude and speed until out of sight for some four to five minutes. I was an aircraft technician with the RAF for 24 years and have never seen anything like it."

Australia: 30 years on: UFO mystery still vivid

Guido Valentich

It was Victoria's very own X-File: a world-famous mystery that remains unsolved 30 years after a young pilot disappeared over Bass Strait.

Steve Robey remembers it like it was yesterday. The now-retired air traffic controller was working the night shift at the Melbourne Flight Service Unit on Saturday, October 21, 1978, when the call came in at 7.06pm.

Pilot Frederick Valentich, flying from Moorabbin Airport to King Island to pick up some crayfish, reported that a strange aircraft was "playing a game with him" and he wanted to know if any military planes were in the area.

Both men were puzzled as there was no known air traffic in the vicinity apart from the 20-year-old RAAF air training corp instructor's plane.

Monterey, California: Fiery object streaks across nighttime sky

Reports came from residents from Carmel Valley to Salinas of a fireball shooting through the Tuesday night sky and hitting the Earth. A sheriff's deputy patrolling Carmel Valley saw it and thought enough of it to call for reinforcements.

Turns out, the fireball was probably a meteor passing through the atmosphere.

Comment: "It didn't hit", so just relax everyone. Don't mind all those reports coming in from all over the world.

Mysterious monster hunts

If you think Bigfoot is a hoax, you're not alone. In 2003, the Seattle Post Intelligencer and the New York Times fingered deceased Washington state prankster Ray Wallace as the perpetrator of a decades-long Bigfoot sham; his family claimed he created the Sasquatch legend with suits and fake footprints. More recently, in August 2008 a news-making Bigfoot corpse in Georgia was revealed to be a gussied-up Halloween costume ordered on the Internet.

But those reports haven't stopped people like Matt Moneymaker, president of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, from seeking the big, hairy truth. He's led scores of people on $300 four-day Bigfoot treks to North America's mountain ranges, home (in his estimation) to 10,000 Sasquatches. He dismisses the claim that Wallace invented Bigfoot, and notes that Sasquatch sightings occurred hundreds of years before Wallace was even born. What's more, he knows from firsthand experience that Bigfoot is real.
