The mysterious Bridgewater Triangle

That triangle off Bermuda gets more attention, but it turns out that Massachusetts has its own three-sided region of paranormal activity. A new documentary, The Bridgewater Triangle, chronicles decades of weird activity (UFO sightings; Bigfoot alerts; unexplained, bloodless cow slaughters) in a 200-square-mile area in southeastern Massachusetts.

The Bridgewater Triangle is roughly defined by the towns of Abington in the north, Freetown in the southeast, and Rehoboth in the southwest, an area that encompasses the Hockomock Swamp and the "infamous" Freetown/Fall River State Forest.

The well-produced trailer features a parade of old local newspaper headlines ("Searchers Baffled in Hunt for Girl") along with interviews with cryptozoologists and testimony from local eyewitnesses, one of whom drops this incisive comment: "Whatever it is," he says, "we keep talking about this region for some reason."

Peru's UFO investigations office to be reopened

UFO

Peru's air force is reopening an office responsible for investigating UFOs due to "increased sightings of anomalous aerial phenomena" in the country's skies.

The Department of Investigation of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena (DIFAA), first created in 2001, is being revived after lying formant for five years because more UFO sightings have been reported to the media, said Colonel Julio Vucetich, head of the air force's aerospace interests division.

The unit will bring together sociologists, archaeologists, astronomers, meteorologists and air force personnel to analyse these events, Vucetich told the Guardian. "Many people don't report UFO sightings because they fear they will be labelled mad or made fun of, but nowadays with new technology - cellphone videos, Facebook, Twitter - they can be much more open, without feeling that they are the only ones who have seen what they've seen," he said.

"This new office needs those people to come and report their sightings so we can open a file and, using their information, do the respective analysis and investigation," he added, flicking through a hefty scrapbook of newspaper cuttings recording Peruvian UFO sightings dating from 1950 to the present day. Peru's Institute for Studies of Historic Aerospace is turning it into a book.

Vucetich said the office had responded to increased sightings of natural and artificial phenomena, from meteorites to "space junk" in Peru. "When you present evidence of UFOs, people can react with terror or hysteria, so we have to be very careful how we present it," he stressed.

Question

I was healed by a ghost...and there's a photo to prove it

Diane Berthelot
© Maurice GrayDiane Berthelot believes she was healed by her contact with the White Lady.
Diane Berthelot had been unwell for months after having her gall bladder removed and was taking antibiotics for an infection when she went into Worstead village church in Norfolk to rest and escape the heat.

While she sat on a pew close to the font and prayed for a full recovery, her husband Peter and son David wandered around the empty church taking photographs.

Mrs Berthelot remembers vividly tingling all over and feeling "warm and comfortable" while sitting on the wooden bench with her eyes closed and head bowed.

When she felt better the family left the church and did not think about the incident until six months later when the camera film was developed and they held a slide show of their holiday snaps for their lodger at their home in Chelmsford, Essex.

One photo clearly showed a woman wearing a bonnet and dressed in light-coloured, old-fashioned clothes, sitting facing Mrs Berthelot on a bench directly behind her.

She said: "When we saw the white figure sitting behind me on the projector screen, we just stood there with our mouths open."

Michigan man tells police his phone, television go crazy

Mason police officers responded to a suspicious person complaint on Oct. 9 in a residential area.

When they arrived, the officers found the exterior of the residence secure and no evidence of damage or vandalism.

The resident reported being on the phone and computer and playing Xbox simultaneously when the phone and television went crazy: volumes went up and down and channels changed by themselves.

Then, suddenly, the electronics resumed normal functions. The complainant went on to report looking out a window and spotting a very thin male wearing a white hoodie standing in the bushes outside the residence that then walked away.

An officer returned outside and checked all around for evidence of the reported mischief-maker without results. The report is closed unless further information is uncovered.

From Oct. 8 through Oct. 14, Mason Police investigated 46 reported incidents involving a variety of both criminal and noncriminal activities.

Image
What was that?!
A mysterious bright light has been filmed slowly descending from the sky in Akureyi, Iceland.

The UFO appears to land in the middle of a residential area but there has been no explanation as to what it might be.

Some commenters on YouTube are sceptical of the clips authenticity.

One named BuzzTeddyHead wrote: "It looks fake. At 0.03 look how quick the object grows in size, then suddenly stops and falls without an increase in its size as according to perspective."

What do you think? Fireball or fake?

New book says government, not aliens, were behind Dulce cattle mutilations, UFO sightings

Greg Valdez

Farmington - For decades, strange lights in the night sky and mysterious cattle mutilations have sparked rumors of a secret underground alien base near the small northern New Mexico town of Dulce, which is tribal headquarters of the Jicarilla Apache Nation.

A new book, Dulce Base: the Truth and Evidence from the Case Files of Gabe Valdez, purports to solve the mystery. It claims that humans, not aliens, are behind the strange happenings. The book's author is Greg Valdez, son of former New Mexico State Police Officer Gabe Valdez.

In 1976, ranchers found many mutilated cows, and Gabe Valdez became one of the lead investigators into the case, his son said.

Greg Valdez says his father began a decades-long investigation into the large number of mutilations in northern New Mexico. Prior to his death in 2011, the former police officer determined that the mutilations and strange aircraft were, in fact, human-caused.

After pouring over recently declassified documents, Gabe Valdez concluded that the federal government was using the Jicarilla Apache Nation to test environmental contamination caused by nuclear testing in the late 1960s.

Greg Valdez says this contamination was caused by an experiment known as "Project Gasbuggy" that took place 21 miles southwest of Dulce on Dec. 10, 1967. The project's goal was to identify peaceful uses for nuclear explosions, and it involved the detonation of a 29-kiloton device located 4,227 feet underground. The intent was to release pockets of natural gas that could be used commercially.

Gasbuggy was carried out by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory and the El Paso Natural Gas Company, according to the book.

While the device was successfully detonated and gas wells were drilled at the site, the gas was too radioactive for commercial use.

Greg Valdez said his father found out that the federal government conducted the cattle mutilations to determine the effects of radiation from Gasbuggy.

UFO incident survivor says it turned his life upside down

Calvin Parker, Jr

The incident made headlines, sparked UFO sightings nationwide and became one of the most widely examined cases on record.
Pascagoula, Mississippi - Charles Hickson never regretted the notoriety that came his way after he told authorities he encountered an unidentified flying object and its occupants 40 years ago on the banks of the Pascagoula River. Until his death in 2011, Hickson told his story to anyone who would listen.

But Calvin Parker Jr., the other man present for one of the most high-profile UFO cases in American history, has never come to terms with what he still says was a visit with gray, crab-clawed creatures from somewhere else. He says the encounter on Oct. 11, 1973, turned his life upside down.

"This is something I really didn't want to happen," Parker told The Associated Press as the 40th anniversary of the encounter approached.

Parker was unnerved by initial crush of unwelcome attention, with newsmen and UFO enthusiasts overrunning Walker Shipyard, where he and Hickson worked. He tried to dodge the spotlight for decades, moving frequently before returning to Mississippi's Gulf Coast in recent years.

The incident made headlines, sparked a wave of UFO sightings nationwide and became one of the most widely examined cases on record. Skeptics ranged from the deputies who first interviewed the men to an author who sought to poke holes in the story, and Parker himself has had conflicting thoughts about whether he was visited by aliens or demons.
