The synergistic effects of exercise cannot be 'bought'

Image
Exercise is an essential element of a healthy lifestyle. It's particularly important for controlling your blood sugar and normalizing your insulin levels, which is critical if you want to normalize your weight and maintain optimal health.

Based on the principle of following ancestral practices, it is important to understand that our genetics and biochemistry are optimized for consistent regular movement, and failure to provide that will result in disability and disease.

Ebola outbreak rages on despite little media coverage

ebola
In October and November 2014, it seemed as if Ebola was the biggest threat facing both the United States and the world at large. Stories of Ebola-infected patients filled newspapers and Internet headlines, and social media was abuzz with people talking about the virus. There was even the brief scare of Ebola spreading on American soil, as multiple patients were treated in U.S. hospitals.

Today, the media landscape in the United States is far different. The top stories are focused more on the civil rights protests taking place around the country and the suspected North Korean involvement in the hacks against Sony than the Ebola virus. That's the nature of the 24/7 news cycle - stories dominate the national conversation for a brief period, are consumed rapidly and then quickly forgotten. In West Africa, however, Ebola is still very much on people's minds.

We're currently still in the midst of the largest Ebola outbreak in recorded history. According to the World Health Organization's latest report, more than 7,300 people have died from the virus during this outbreak in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. Those three countries have been struggling to contain the virus for numerous reasons, including an insufficient health care infrastructure and improper burial procedures. Sierra Leone's health care workers have been particularly affected in recent months, as Dr. Victor Willoboughy recently became the 11th physician to succumb to the virus in the country. He died last Thursday.

Comment: The lack of media coverage is leading Americans to become complacent, thinking that there is little risk to them. Unfortunately, that may not be the case, because it has been reported that the CDC stopped releasing statistics and granting interviews in an effort to control the news.

In actuality, the virus poses more risks than they are willing to concede and hospitals are woefully unprepared to deal with the crisis. Taking responsibility for your own health would be wise. If you begin to implement changes to your health regime now, you will have a much better chance of fighting off infection.

Flying pigsh*t! Drone catches Smithfield pork farms spraying animal waste into air

Thousands of huge pig farms in North Carolina are spraying untreated animal waste into the air and contaminating neighboring communities, Mark Devries, who shot a shocking aerial video with a spy drone, told RT.

This environmental problem "has for some reason received very little attention in the American press," says documentary filmmaker and activist Mark Devries, whose drone captured footage of cesspools at over 2,000 industrial pork factory farms in the US state.

"These pools are near people's homes, people's schools, people's neighborhoods," Devries said in an interview Monday to RT. "And in order to get rid of these giant open-air cesspools, the manure is actually sprayed into the air with giant spraying devices, which causes it to turn into a fine mist."

Comment: Factory farming is very devastating to humans and the environment.

Children with a severe form of epilepsy could be treated with a new drug derived from the cannabis plant. The element of the plant used is non-psychoactive, meaning patients would not receive the usual cannabis high.

The medicine, called Epidiolex, has been trialed in the US, where early studies showed promising results, reducing the frequency and severity of seizures.

Trials of the drug, which contains the compound Cannabidiol (CBD), will begin at Edinburgh University's Muir Maxwell Epilepsy Centre, based at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, and London's Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Comment: Let's hope Big Pharma doesn't dilute the potential benefits by adding poisonous substances and making it inaccessible with high prices.

Documentary: 'Unacceptable Levels' - The chemicals in our bodies; how they got there and what to do about it

Image
Study after study reveals the negative health impact of the chemical concoction that we encounter daily in our foods, in our environment, and in consumer products.

Unacceptable Levels is a feature-length documentary which examines the results of the chemical revolution of the 1940s through the eyes of affable filmmaker Ed Brown, a father seeking to understand the world in which he and his wife are raising their children.

To create this debut documentary, one man and his camera traveled extensively to find and interview top minds in the fields of science, advocacy, and law. Weaving their testimonies into a compelling narrative, Brown presents us with the story of how the chemical revolution brought us to where we are, and of where, if we're not vigilant, it may take us.

A diverse group of voices are offered, which should spur debate from many sectors of those who have become concerned about everything from pesticides to BPA to GMO to fluoride and any one of the other 80,000 synthetic chemicals known to have been released. Now the question is what do we do about it? The environmental movement and particularly the "sustainable" agenda is a minefield of controlled opposition, infiltrators and everything in between. First, all of us should become as informed as possible on all fronts so that we can properly tackle real solutions to a crisis that only continues to get worse as the fusion between government and corporate interests intensifies.

Comment: The great American experiment
These studies recognize that we're all being used as human guinea pigs.

We know darn well that over 1,000 chemicals harm the brains of animals - and animals' bodies are not all that different from ours. About half of the chemicals on this list are chemicals that are in our industrial solvents, pesticides, flame retardants, and other common products.

What's our current approach? Just keep using them. Move along, everyone, until scientists can prove beyond a doubt that a specific chemical made a specific person sick.

Trying to steer clear of dangerous chemicals can drive you crazy. Just try to discover which products in your life contain chemicals that are toxic to you or your kids, and how you can find non-toxic replacements for them. It's hard not to grow exasperated and give up.

And as a society, we should theoretically have more control over the process of identifying and banning toxic chemicals. But the federal law that regulates them, theToxic Substances Control Act of 1976, has no teeth.

Corporations don't even have to test their products for toxicity before putting them on the market. And the government has a very limited ability to prevent toxic chemicals from being sold.

Surprise! Another study confirms USDA Dietary Guidelines on fats are wrong

Image
A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine made waves through the mainstream media. In a stunning meta-analysis of the relationship between dietary fats and heart disease that included over 600,000 people, the researchers came to the following conclusion:
"Current evidence does not clearly support cardiovascular guidelines that encourage high consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids and low consumption of total saturated fats."
This conclusion flies in direct contrast to the USDA dietary guidelines, which recommend polyunsaturated fats (think corn and soybean oils) as healthy, and saturated fats as unhealthy (think animal fat and coconut oil) in terms of cardiovascular health.

This is certainly not the first study that has been published in the past few years clearly showing there is no link between saturated fats consumption and heart disease.

Comment: Sott.net has been saying it for years: Saturated Fat is good for you!

Elder abuse: Anti-psychotics increasingly prescribed to make life easier for nursing home staff

elderly anti-psychotic drugs

More than half of prescriptions for anti-psychotic drugs in Britain are for conditions other than serious mental illnesses, say researchers.

And the elderly are twice as likely to be prescribed the drugs as people in their 40s, even though they are linked to a higher risk of premature death in older people.

The drugs, often dubbed the 'chemical cosh' because they are wrongly used to sedate dementia patients, are licensed for serious mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

But a study of GPs' prescriptions between 2007 and 2011, using an electronic database of anonymous patient records, found that less than half were prescribed the drugs for these conditions.

Comment: It is despicable that doctors and staff readily use such extreme measures to handle elderly patients in their 'care', when studies have shown that these drugs actually disable normal brain function and increase the risk of death. Yet they are not totally to blame as the pharmaceutical industry is no doubt the primary culprit, pressuring the doctors to push these drugs.

Heavy metal toxicity can ruin your health

Image
To a greater or lesser degree, most of us are contaminated with heavy metals today - some seriously, some without ever knowing it. It is a subject that just doesn't cross our everyday minds and physicians are often not alert to the possibility of metal exposure such as lead, mercury, and cadmium. In fact, the chronic accumulation of toxic contaminants that may not achieve classic 'acute toxicity' thresholds levels receives little attention at all, although it may nevertheless contribute to important adverse health effects. 1

On the other hand, acute toxicity - which is most often the consequence of occupational exposure - does tend to be recognized, properly diagnosed, and then treated. Acute toxicities arise from sudden exposures to substantial quantities of some metals, and typically these toxins affect multiple organ systems; commonly the GI tract, cardiovascular system, the brain and nervous system, the endocrine system, kidneys, hair, and nails.

Comment: Additional information about useful methods for detoxing from heavy metals:
There's no doubt about it, mercury is the most alarming, disease-causing source of environmental toxicity that I see daily in my practice. Many of patients have toxic levels of mercury - and they're not alone. I personally suffered from mercury toxicity and chronic fatigue syndrome - which I cured myself from, in part by getting rid of the mercury in my body. So I know about this first hand.

A new study conducted in Malaysia looked at the effects of consuming high-antioxidant virgin coconut oil on mental health.

Published in the journal Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine and believed to be the first study of its kind, researchers evaluated the anti-stress and antioxidant effects of virgin coconut oil in mice with stress-induced injuries. The title of the study is "Antistress and antioxidant effects of virgin coconut oil in vivo."

The researchers performed several stress tests on groups of mice. Control groups included untreated mice and mice not subjected to stress, and virgin coconut oil was compared to a commonly prescribed psychiatric drug, Diazepam.
