A manhunt is under way after a shooting at a tavern in South Africa left nine people dead and another 10 injured.

Police said seven men and two women were killed in Bekkersdal, near Johannesburg, after about 12 unidentified gunmen arrived in two vehicles and opened fire at patrons.

The shooting happened at about 01:00 local time on Sunday (23:00 GMT Saturday) and the perpetrators "continued to shoot randomly as [people] fled the scene", police added.

South Africa has one of the highest murder rates in the world. Sixty-three people were killed every day on average between April and September this year, according to police figures.

Meanwhile, fire zone housing value tops $46 billion, according to a new Zillow analysis.

Almost a year after January's devastating California wildfires, real estate investors have been buying up nearly 40 percent of the land sold in the areas impacted by the fires.

A Dec. 30 report from Redfin stated that many of these now-empty lots once retained some of the nation's most expensive homes, before they were reduced to rubble when the fire ripped through over 40,000 acres and destroyed more than 11,000 single-family homes in the Los Angeles suburbs.

A Zillow analysis — also released on Dec. 30 — indicates the total residential housing value of the 19,605 homes in the affected regions was $46 billion prior to the fires.

More than 11,000 of those homes were destroyed.

Best of the Web: Ukrainian drone attack kills 27 civilians at Kherson New Year's Eve celebration

The terrorist action took place while dozens of people were celebrating the arrival of the New Year.

At least 24 people were killed, including a child and more than 50 were injured after Ukrainian drones struck a cafe and a hotel during New Year celebrations in the Kherson region, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the attack took place in the early hours of 2026 and targeted a location where civilians had gathered to celebrate the New Year.

The ministry alleged that the strike was carried out using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), calling it "another terrorist act against civilians" by the Kyiv regime.

"For more than 70 residents the New Year became a tragedy: the Neo-Nazis attacked a cafe and a hotel in the Kherson region of Russia using UAVs. 24 people were killed, over 50 were wounded and have been hospitalized. Among those affected — six kids from the age of 6 to 17, one child was killed," the statement read.

Comment: The Russian MoD says the death toll has risen to 27 - all civilians.

There were other victims in Ukraine's murderous blitz:
A five-year-old boy has been killed in a Ukrainian drone strike on his family's car in Russia's Kherson Region, Governor Vladimir Saldo has said.

The boy, his mother and her parents were traveling in their car when it was hit by a kamikaze UAV outside the village of Tarasovka, Saldo relayed. The child was killed on the spot, while the adults sustained multiple shrapnel wounds, the governor stated.

"The Kiev bastards have committed yet another bloody crime," Saldo wrote on his Telegram channel.

The incident comes less than a day after the New Year's Eve attack on a crowded café and hotel in the Black Sea coastal village of Khorly in the south of the region. The strike caused a major fire which left at least 24 people dead and over 50 others wounded. It involved several kamikaze drones, one of which carried incendiary weaponry.

The café attack occurred shortly before midnight; a reconnaissance drone was seen observing the area shortly ahead of the strike, according to Saldo.

Extremely graphic footage from the scene shows the location littered with the charred bodies of the victims. At least one child was among the dead, according to Saldo.

Kherson Region, together with Zaporozhye Region and the People's Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, joined Russia in the fall of 2022 as a result of local referendums.

The region has become a prime target for indiscriminate Ukrainian attacks. Kiev's forces have been routinely targeting civilian sites with artillery and missile fire, as well as launching kamikaze drone strikes, hunting down civilian vehicles and first responders.

Best of the Web: Vondelkerk Church in Amsterdam destroyed in fire on New Year's Eve - Media blames migrants setting off fireworks, but was it?

Celebrations across the country were overshadowed by the huge blaze that destroyed the historic building

Two people have died and a historic 19th Century church was burned to the ground following New Year's Eve celebrations in the Netherlands.

A 17-year-old boy from Nijmegen and a 38-year-old man from Aalsmeer were killed in fireworks accidents, authorities have confirmed, with three others seriously injured during celebrations.

One person has since been arrested in connection with the teenager's death, with the police investigation ongoing.

Elsewhere, a historic 19th Century church located in the heart of Amsterdam was burnt to the ground as revellers took to the streets.

Comment: Note how this reporting - with zero evidence - is framing the church incident within broader New Year's Eve clowning around with fireworks...

Authorities were forced to send a rare country-wide alert on mobile devices just after midnight amid a surge in calls to the emergency services.

The message urged people to only call the already overwhelmed emergency services if their lives were at risk.

Comment: "Members of the public..."

Interesting euphemism for the non-Dutch population of The Netherlands.

It's not just the above report, by the way. Search for reports on this church fire in Amsterdam in all European press and you'll notice they're unanimously suggesting that fireworks (accidentally) burned down the church.

At the same time, everyone in European cities knows that those behaving irresponsibly with fireworks on NYE tend to be migrant youths and/or from majority-Muslim countries.

So, once again, we see that the media is deliberately fanning the flames of 'race war', even as it feigns shock when Europeans 'vote against embracing more diversity' in elections.

'The Network' knows who it wants you to blame:

Was it 'the Muzzies' though? And if so, did they 'have help'?

Best of the Web: 'Dozens' feared dead in major fire at New Year's party in Swiss ski resort

Local hospitals are reportedly overwhelmed with burn victims following a devastating explosion that claimed as many as 40 lives

A popular nightlife venue in the ski resort of Crans-Montana was rocked by an explosion shortly after the arrival of the New Year, reportedly killing dozens of people and leaving many others injured, Swiss police have said.

Police have not released exact figures as families are still being notified, but as many as 40 people were killed and many others injured, some of them seriously, local media have reported, citing sources.

Local hospitals are reportedly overwhelmed with burn victims, according to Le Nouvelliste.

"There has been an explosion of unknown origin," Gaetan Lathion, a local police spokesman, told AFP.

Emergency services were dispatched shortly after midnight following reports of a powerful blast and fire at or near a bar and lounge frequented by vacationers.

Eyewitness footage circulating on social media shows flames engulfing part of the venue and thick smoke rising into the night sky.

Comment: Swiss police believe the fire may have started when sparklers in champagne bottles were hoisted too close to decoration fabric hanging from the bar's ceiling.

California has a massive fraud scandal and no one is talking about it

Cal Gov Newsom
© UnknownCalifornia Governor Gavin Newsom
Everybody's buzzing about that Minnesota Medicaid mess with Gov. Tim Walz. Some are even calling it the largest fraud scandal ever. If only. Blue-state fraud is undoubtedly a problem, and Walz should be held accountable if he did indeed look the other way. But what happened in the land of 10,000 lakes is tiny compared to the fraud in California under Gavin Newsom. Heck, it makes Minnesota look like pocket change.

A fresh 92-page bombshell from the California State Auditor lays it all out.
"This latest report was issued by the state auditor, and that's a nonpartisan position; that state auditor now puts eight state agencies on the high-risk list of agencies to watch out for, for things like fraud and mismanagement as well as waste," Newsmax correspondent Heather Myers revealed last week. "Here's a look at that 92-page report. Newly added to the high-risk list is California's food stamp program. If the state doesn't get the improper payments under control, it could cost an extra $2.5 billion. Also on there is the Department of Finance, which was tasked with giving out COVID relief funds. Critics say $32 billion of that was taken by fraudsters. Then there are infrastructure issues like California's deteriorating dams, and also the high-speed train that's already cost taxpayers 18 billion without a single section of track complete."
But wait, there's more!

Diversity? Study finds Yale no longer has a single Republican professor across 27 departments

yale university flag crest coat of arms
Yale has finally achieved liberal nirvana. According to a recent report from the Buckley Institute, there is now not a single Republican found across 27 of 43 departments at Yale University. In a nation roughly evenly divided between Republicans and Democrats (with a slight advantage to the GOP), only 3 percent are Republicans across all Yale departments.

In comparison, roughly 83% of faculty are registered Democrats or primarily support Democratic candidates.

The Buckley Institute's report looked at Yale's undergraduate departments, as well as its School of Management and Law School.

The report is hardly surprising. In my book, The Indispensable Right: Free Speech in an Age of Rage, I discuss these arguments to justify the current levels of intolerance and orthodoxy in higher education.

Comment: The mainstream universities are slowly crashing and burning, especially the Ivies. It can't happen soon enough.

Jennings: "Until Somebody In POWER Goes To JAIL," Blue State Fraud Won't Stop

Scott Jennings
© CNN You Tube
In a heated CNN clash, conservative commentator Scott Jennings called out the lack of real accountability in Democrat-run states, demanding elected officials face consequences for enabling billion-dollar scams.

Jennings addressed the rot in blue states where massive fraud schemes have flourished under lax oversight. Facing pushback from host Abby Phillip, Jennings insisted that prosecuting small-time operators isn't enough — real change demands jailing those at the top who allowed it all to happen.

The discussion centered on the sprawling welfare fraud in Minnesota, but Jennings expanded it to a nationwide indictment of blue state governance. When Phillip defended ongoing probes, saying, "This idea that nothing is being done, that no one is being held accountable, that this was just left to run rampant, is completely false," Jennings countered sharply.

Federal authorities were conducting a "massive" investigation in Minnesota on Monday, days after a video posted online by an independent journalist on alleged fraud involving daycare centers.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were on the ground in Minneapolis, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X.

Fox News Digital has reached out to DHS, as well as ICE and the FBI.

A video Noem posted online showed HSI agents questioning someone outside a building, but it was not clear what type of business the person was involved in.
