US Supreme Court rules in favor of Jan. 6 Capitol protest participant who challenged obstruction conviction

The challenge was brought by Joseph Fischer, one of more than 300 people charged with obstruction by the Justice Department

The Supreme Court on Friday ruled in favor of a participant in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot who challenged his conviction for a federal "obstruction" crime.

In a 6-3 decision, the high court held to a narrower interpretation of a federal statute that imposes criminal liability on anyone who corruptly "alters, destroys, mutilates, or conceals a record, document, or other object, or attempts to do so, with the intent to impair the object's integrity or availability for use in an official proceeding."

The ruling reverses a lower court decision, which the high court said swept too broadly into areas like peaceful but disruptive conduct, and returns the case to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, who will have the opportunity to reassess the case with Friday's ruling in mind.

Tractor Supply, a rural retailer known for selling farming equipment, announced on social media this week that it was reversing course on woke initiatives after facing backlash from conservative activists online.

The company faced potentially having to deal with the same fallout of other major corporations that embraced wokeness, including Anheuser-Busch and Target.

"Every day our 50,000 Team Members take care of our customers like family," the company said in a statement. "We deeply value our relationship with our customers and the communities we call home."

The company said it had invested millions of dollars in conservative causes, including "veteran causes, emergency response, animal shelters, state fairs, rodeos and farmers markets."

According to initial estimates, the Rassemblement National and its allies got more than a third of the votes, while the left-wing Nouveau Front Populaire alliance bested the supporters of President Emmanuel Macron.

The far-right Rassemblement National made historic progress in the first round of France's snap legislative elections on Sunday, June 30, in a vote marked by a high increase in turnout. With 33.5% of the vote together with its allies, according to initial estimates, the party led by Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella almost doubled its score from the 2022 elections, as it hopes to conquer power for the first time.

President Emmanuel Macron, who called the snap elections on June 9 after his side's defeat in the European elections, sees his coalition rank third, with 20.7%, as the alliance of left-wing parties, the Nouveau Front Populaire, reached 28.1%, according to the initial estimates from Ipsos Talan for France Télévisions, Radio France, France24/RFI and LCP Assemblée Nationale.

Comment: Historically what has happened is that the other big parties have conspired to defeat as many nationalist candidates in the second round as possible. Whether that works again this time remains to be seen...

Alleged "confessions" by two Palestinians in Israeli custody filmed seemingly admitting to multiple rapes, murders, and kidnappings on October 7, do not match the events of that day, are contradicted by copious evidence, and were likely coerced through torture. US and British media are running with the stories regardless.

On May 23, 2024, Britain's Daily Mail published what it described as "exclusive" interrogation tapes it had been handed by Israeli intelligence. The Murdoch-owned tabloid claimed the supposed confessions exposed a pair of "father and son Hamas rapists" who had admitted "going house to house carrying out sex attacks and murder." The proof of this apparent bombshell story consisted of two short snippets of heavily edited footage in which a wide-eyed Palestinian father and son are shown confessing to raping, killing, and kidnapping Israeli civilians from Kibbutz Nir Oz in Israel on October 7th.

In the videos, the pair, listed by the Daily Mail as "Shameless Jamal Hussein Ahmad Radi, 47, and his son Abdallah, 18," seemingly admit to heinous crimes including a double homicide, kidnapping a mother and daughter, gangraping and murdering a woman, and kidnapping an Israeli resident.

In response to escalating hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, the Pentagon has strategically repositioned US military assets in the Mediterranean on Friday, preparing for potential evacuations of American citizens, Anadolu Agency reports.

The "USS Wasp", an amphibious assault ship, along with Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, has joined other US naval forces in the region, preparing for potential evacuations of American citizens and other missions, NBC News reported, citing US defence officials.

This move aims to deter regional escalation and support potential military-assisted departures.

Despite the Biden administration's pressure, Israeli officials are committed to targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon and aim to establish a 10-mile buffer zone along the Lebanese border, according to US and Israeli sources.

Face mask rules have been reintroduced at acute hospitals in Worcestershire after a rise in the number of patients developing Covid-19.

The policy applies to staff, patients and visitors, and covers all clinical areas at Redditch's Alexandra, Kidderminster, and the Worcestershire Royal hospitals.

In a statement, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (WAH) said the measure was "necessary to protect patients, their loved ones, and our hospital staff from the risk of infection".

The trust said it was currently treating 65 patients with Covid-19, the "highest number" since December 2023.

Comment: Considering the plethora of issues caused by prolonged mask wearing - including a lack of oxygen and the prevelance of bacteria - that's rather unfortunate for the patients that the hospital claims it wants to help. More so because a number of those people will have received yet another experimental covid jab over the winter, which might be the cause of the spikes we're seeing; and the accumulated harm these jabs are likely causing is probably why these patients are more seriously ill than ever before.

All things considered, the human body is, evidently, profoundly resilient to this barrage of abuse.

But, what's perhaps most revealing is how both the health service, and people, have yet to learn anything from the contrived coronavirus crisis, and worse, at the flick of a hysteria-switch they will revert to these programmed behaviours.

Bannon, a former Trump adviser, was convicted of contempt of Congress in July 2022 for defying subpoenas from the House Jan. 6 committee and sentenced to four months.

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon must report to prison by Monday after the Supreme Court rejected his last-minute bid to stave off his four-month sentence for defying subpoenas from the House Jan. 6 committee.

Bannon was convicted in Washington on two counts of contempt of Congress nearly two full years ago, in July 2022, and sentenced to four months in prison in October 2022. U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols had put his sentence on hold as he pursued an appeal of his conviction, which was rejected in May. Nichols then ordered Bannon to report to prison by July 1, saying there was no basis to continue to delay the sentence. An appeals court then rejected Bannon's appeal of the decision, leaving only the Supreme Court to help him avoid incarceration.

Walgreens has announced plans to shut down a "significant number" of its 8,600 locations across the US in a blow to the economy.

Store closures have decimated local communities in the years following the Covid pandemic with the pharmacy giant appearing to be no exception.

This comes shortly after the business slashed its profit forecast for the fiscal year in a sign consumers are easing on their in-store spending. During Walgreens Boot Alliance's Q3 earning results, the company did not specify how many sites will be closed and where they will be located.

A group of U.S. voters who were unable to choose between Joe Biden and Donald Trump before Thursday's presidential debate delivered their verdicts after the contest and it was almost universally bad news for Biden.

Of the 13 "undecideds" who spoke to Reuters, 10 described the 81-year-old Democratic president's performance against Republican candidate Trump collectively as feeble, befuddled, embarrassing and difficult to watch.

Gina Gannon, 65, a retiree in the battleground state of Georgia, voted for Trump in 2016 before ditching him for Biden in 2020.

"Joe Biden looked very weak and confused right from the start. It concerns me that our global enemies see Joe Biden in this manner. I was shocked and dismayed. I hate to see our president acting that way on TV and in front of the world," Gannon said.

She added: "I am absolutely voting for Donald Trump now."

U.S. prosecutors have reportedly recommended that the Department of Justice (DOJ) bring criminal charges against Boeing for violating a settlement related to two fatal crashes.

The recommendation, first reported by Reuters, comes after the DOJ said last month that Boeing breached its obligations from a 2021 agreement that shielded the embattled corporation from criminal prosecution from two fatal 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 that killed 346 people.
