British man to be made example of in U.K. court on Ukraine terrorism charges

British prosecutors have charged a man with terrorism offenses related to the war between Russia-backed separatists and Kyiv's forces in eastern Ukraine.

Benjamin Stimson, 41, faces what are believed to be Britain's first terrorism charges involving offenses allegedly committed in the conflict, which erupted shortly after Russia forcibly annexed Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula in March 2014.

Comment: That is an outright lie. The people of Crimea had voted for independence from the Ukraine in a legal referendum in which the majority chose to rejoin with Russia by an overwhelming vote. The claim that Russia 'annexed' Crimea is mainly western propaganda aimed at demonizing Russia.

Police in Manchester said in a statement on September 28 that Stimson was charged with two offenses: the intention of committing acts of terrorism and engaging in conduct in preparation for giving effect to this intention, and the intention of committing acts of terrorism and assisting acts of terrorism.

Comment: If what he asserts is true, and he was on the side of the separatists, then he would have indeed been protecting civilians. The actual terrorists are the Ukrainian forces, who are guilty of human rights crimes as noted in this UN report, and those that support them.

FBI warns 'Terrorist diaspora like we've never seen' in US as ISIS loses ground overseas

As it loses territory in Iraq and Syria, the terror group Islamic State will inspire more attacks in the West over the next two years as the organization's vengeful Western fighters return home from the Middle East, according to top FBI officials.

Comment: More proof that these militants are foreign fighters and have no business in Syria, Iraq, or any other country.

Top officials with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, including Director James Comey, have voiced public concerns that - as the US, Iraq, and other nations successfully wrest control of territory away from Islamic State (IS, formerly known as ISIS/ISIL), people inspired or affiliated with the Islamic extremist terror group will return to the US and other spots around the globe, ready to retaliate.

"There will be a terrorist diaspora sometime in the next two to five years like we've never seen before," Comey said Tuesday during a hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.

Comment: Some nice spin here! Ya see! Since Russia is depriving ISIS of ground in the Middle East, they're gonna attack the US more! Damn you Russia! Can't you just let ISIS have Syria!!?

US threatens Russia: 'Extremists' in Syria will exploit vacuum, attack Russian interests and cities

Unless Russia "stops the violence" in Syria, extremists would "exploit the vacuum" to attack Russian interests and even cities, the US State Department has said.

"Extremist groups will continue to exploit the vacuums that are there in Syria to expand their operations, which could include attacks against Russian interests, perhaps even Russian cities. Russia will continue to send people home in body bags, and will continue to lose resources, perhaps even aircraft," John Kirby, the State Department's spokesperson, told reporters at Wednesday's press briefing.

If the war continues "more Russian lives will be lost, more Russian aircraft will be shot down," Kirby said.

Comment: That sounds like a threat rather than a warning.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry by telephone on Wednesday the Jebhat al-Nusra's field commanders had confirmed the receipt of weapons from the United States.

"Lavrov called Kerry's attention to the media revelations of Jebhat al-Nusra's field commanders about external support, including the receipt of U.S. weapons, as well as the remarks of Syrian opposition leader Riyad Hijab, the head of the West-backed group of Syrian opposition figureheads, who reside abroad, that the above-mentioned organization was not terrorist," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Once again, Lavrov drew attention to the fact that a number of anti-government units, which Washington calls 'moderate', had not only refused to stick to the September 9 Russian-U.S. agreement for strengthening the ceasefire and providing humanitarian access but was instead merging with Jebhat al-Nusra and continued military operations against the Syrian army side by side with those Al-Quaeda units," the ministry said.

U.S. miffed that Syria & Russia are mopping up their jihadists, sends more weapons, and more recent developments

Aleppo, before the war.
Just a few links ...

The White House and State Department are miffed that Syria and Russia are cleaning up their Jihadis in Aleppo city.

There is a false claim evolving in western "news" that the current Aleppo operation led to the breakdown of the ceasefire agreement. Two points on this: 1. The ceasefire did not "break down". It expired after a previously agreed period. Both sides did not agree to a prolongation. 2. The most important ceasefire point was the physical separation of al-Qaida and other U.S. proxy rebels. The U.S. was unable (or unwilling) to fulfill that point.

Duterte tells US this is the last joint war games citing China concerns

Outspoken Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has declared that the upcoming set of joint military exercises with the US will be "the last one", citing possible tensions with China.

Duterte made the remarks during a visit to Vietnam on Wednesday, where he was meeting members of Hanoi's Filipino community.

"I'm serving notice now to the Americans," Duterte said. "I will serve notice to you now that this will be the last military exercise. Jointly, Philippines-the US: Last one."

Duterte did not mean, of course, that their long-standing partnership was over, promising to "maintain the military alliance, the RP-US pact which our countries signed in the early '50s". But he also made clear he was keeping regional geopolitics in mind as well.

"You are scheduled to hold war games, which China does not want," he said.

Comment: Duterte seems to be trying to get things cooled down between China and the US or at least not be a party to increased tensions.

Syrian militants in tumult after Israel restructures Fatah al-Sham command in Quneitra

The Israeli spy agency has called Sheikh Assim Qassim, the Mufti of Fatah al-Sham (Nusra) Front in Jabat al-Khashab region and Taranja in the Northern parts of Quneitra, to order him a reshuffling of commanders in the region, Arab media sources said Wendesday.

The Arabic-language Axis News website quoted sources as saying that the Israeli intelligence officials have appointed Ali Mare'i Suleiman and his brother Faisal Mare'i Suleiman as commanders of the Eastern front of Jabat al-Khashab, including Qob al-Hamriya front, Hazar town and regions near the district that the Syrian army's Division 4 is deployed. Also, Taj Leili and Adnan Leili have been assigned as commanders of Taranja, Tal al-Ahmar and al-Saraya regions, and Ma'as Nasar has been reinstated as commander of the Western parts of Jabata al-Khashab which is adjacent to the Golan Heights.

The sources told the Arab media outlet that after Sheikh Qassim (who was once a judge of the terrorists' Al-Sharia courts in Quneitra) informed the new commanders of Israel's orders, the militants who have recently left the Dara'a fronts and joined Fatah al-Sham's forces in Quneitra started angry protests, believing that they should also share a major role in the command structure.

Comment: The supporters of these terrorists are now out in the open and desperate to reorganize.

SOTT Focus: SOTT News Snapshot: The new JIT MH17 report is in - rebels did it, case closed, don't ask any questions

Today the Joint Investigation Team released their findings on the shoot-down of MH17. This follows the October 2015 Dutch Safety Board report, which concluded that the plane was shot down with a Buk missile armed with a 9N314M warhead, and stressed that Ukraine had failed to close the airspace over the war zone. However, the Russian company that produces the Buk system conducted their own tests, allegedly ruling out the separatist-held village of Snezhnoye as the launch site, pointing to Kiev-held Zaroshchenskoye as the only possible site, and questioning the type of warhead identified by the DSB based on the physical damage to the wreckage. (See: Closing the BUK on MH17? Dutch final report is clearly biased.)

Initially, on July 21, 2014, Russia released data showing that a Ukrainian jet was in the vicinity of MH17 before it was shot down. This matched up with eyewitness accounts and analysis of the damage suggesting the possibility of fighter jet machine-gun fire. However, just two days ago, Russia released some "newly discovered" civilian radar data alleging to show the situation in the air at the time of the shoot-down and crash. The data showed three civilian aircraft in the vicinity, but "no foreign objects near the Malaysian plane which could have caused its destruction". So this latest release contradicts their earlier statements: the radar shows no indication of a fighter jet in the air.

According to the Russian experts, due to the capacities of the radar station involved, the data suggests that a Buk was not fired from rebel-held territory, but the same could not be said for the territory held by Kiev, because the radar station wouldn't have been able to detect a missile fired from Zaroshchenskoye. (The author of the What Happened to Flight MH17 blog argues the opposite - that the radar would have detected a missile fired from Zaroshchenskoye more easily, but without a detailed expert analysis, it's hard to say either way.) According to the Russians, Ukraine has yet to release their radar data, and the investigation is proceeding based on false premises, namely the misidentification of the type of missile used.

No surprise there: Iraqi forces complain that the US refuses to target ISIL targets

Commander of Iraqi popular forces in Haditha town, West of al-Anbar, disclosed that the US-led coalition forces in al-Ratba town continue to shrug off targeting the ISIL terrorists.

"The US forces refuse to target the ISIL gathering centers near al-Ratba town in the Western parts of al-Anbar under the pretext of the presence of Hashd al-Sha'abi (popular) forces in the region," Colonel Nazzem al-Juqaifi told al-Ma'louma news website on Wednesday.

He said that his forces are responsible for safeguarding the security of a highway which links the 160km region to al-Ratba town.

While the ISIL terrorists are preparing to attack the town, the coalition forces refuse to launch airstrikes on their gathering centers which have posed a serious threat to the Iraqi security forces near al-Ratba, Juqaifi said.

The Iraqi volunteer forces' commanders have continued to lash out at the US and its regional allies for continuing their military and logistical supports for the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in Iraq all throughout the last two years.
