Report: High-level Turkish officials to hold 'breakthrough' meeting with Assad

According to a report of the Iranian Tasnim news agency, high-level Turkish officials will hold a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

A high-level Turkish political delegation is going to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the Iranian Tasnim news agency reported.

According to the report, a cabinet minister will head the Turkish delegation that will travel to Syria.

Comment: Turkey continues to make signs that it has turned away from American 'regime change' Syria. Check out:
But as was made clear by the US bombing of the Syrian army in Deir ez-Zor and the attack on the UN convoy that was blamed on Russia - two events in quick succession that served to destroy the Putin-Kerry agreed ceasefire - the US State Department and the Pentagon seem to be pursuing two different and mutually exclusive strategies. So it is no surprise then that, behind the scenes, Erdogan's approach in Syria was ruffling some feathers in the USA. Al-Monitor reports:
Operation Euphrates Shield, which was progressing rapidly, has slowed with the appearance of Americans in the field. Sabotage by some groups supported by the Pentagon that oppose the FSA and the withdrawal from the battlefield of some opposition groups that don't want to cooperate with the Americans have benefited Daesh [IS]. Daesh, which recaptured seven villages two days ago, last night retook five more villages from the opposition groups. ... Now there are allegations that the United States, in addition to planting sedition to disrupt the harmony of Euphrates Shield, is supplying Daesh with intelligence about the opposition groups and planning to send the PYD to al-Bab, which is being targeted by Turkey.

Putin on threat of US cyberattacks: First time Washington has admitted involvement in such actions

putin
© Ruptly
Commenting on US Vice President Joe Biden's statement on the possibility of cyberattacks against Russia, Vladimir Putin said it's the first time that Washington has admitted involvement in such actions.

"One can expect just about anything from our American friends. After all, what did he (Biden) say that we didn't already know? Didn't we know that US authorities are spying and eavesdropping on everyone?"

These activities are "well known to everyone, it's no secret," Putin added.

Comment: Putin's full remarks:
Everyone knows this all too well, there has long been no secret about it and there is sufficient evidence to support this. Billions of dollars are channelled into this activity, with the NSA and the CIA working on it alongside other government bodies. There are both witness accounts and full-fledged confessions.

In fact, they are spying not only on their real or potential enemies, but also on their allies, including the closest ones. We know about so many wiretapping scandals involving top government officials from countries that are allies of the United States, so there is absolutely nothing new here.

The only new thing is that for the first time the US has acknowledged at such a high level, first, that they actually do this, and second that they are making some kind of a threat, which of course is inconsistent with the norms of international dialogue. This is obvious.

Apparently, they are a little bit nervous. The question is why. I think there is a reason. You know, in an election campaign, the current government carefully crafts a pre-election strategy, and any government, especially when seeking re-election, always has unresolved issues. They need to show, to explain to the voters why they remained unresolved.

In the US, there are many such problems, they certainly have enough of them ... I'm just saying that there are many problems, and in these conditions, many choose to resort to the usual tactics of distracting voters from their problems.

In my view, this is exactly what we are witnessing. How do you do it? Try to create an enemy and rally the nation against that enemy. Iran and the Iranian nuclear threat did not work well for that. Russia is a more interesting story. In my opinion, this card is being played now.
As Putin was answering, the room experienced a brief power outage, with the President's microphone switching off. "I said something wrong apparently," Putin joked, with the journalists present bursting into laughter. Curiously, Putin noted that he "is not aware" of whether Temer was recruited by US intelligence services and that "he is not interested" in the issue.

ISIL has captured at least 300 of its militants in Western Deir Ezzur on charges of trying to leave ISIL-held regions, local sources said Saturday.

"At least 300 militants who had defected the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and joined the ISIL after receiving some trainings in Western Deir Ezzur, have been arrested by ISIL's security forces," the sources said, adding, "The arrested-FSA militants had participated in several ISIL-held ideological courses in Deir Ezzur to repent from their previous ideas."

The 300 militants were arrested by ISIL after they were charged with spying.

Snowden laughs off Biden's threat of US cyberattack on Russia - "Nobody told Biden what 'covert operation' means"

biden

Whistleblower Edward Snowden has made fun of US Vice President Joe Biden's announcement to respond to hack attacks, allegedly conducted by Russia, with a crafty counterstrike.

Speaking to the host of NBC's "Meet the Press" earlier this week, Biden said that "at the time of our choosing, and under the circumstances that will have the greatest impact," Washington would exact revenge against Moscow for its alleged interference with the upcoming US elections.

Such revelations about the kind of operation that is conventionally kept secret prompted the former NSA contractor to suggest that the top US official simply doesn't know how such things work. "I get the feeling nobody told VP Joe Biden what "covert operation" means," Snowden tweeted.

Wikileaks releases Killary's paid Goldman Sachs speech transcripts

hillary lloyd
"Don't worry about what I say about making banks accountable Mr. Rich Wall Street guy, it's all just for show"
As has been widely reported, in 2013 Hillary Clinton was paid $675,000 for three speeches to Goldman Sachs. One was delivered on June 4, 2013 at the 2013 IBD CEO Annual Conference at The Inn at Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina, a second one took place on October 24, 2013 at the Goldman Sachs Asset Management AIMS Alternative Investment Symposium, and the last one was delivered on October 29, 2013 at the Goldman Sachs builders and innovators summit.

The speech transcripts, in their entirety, were revealed for the first time in an email from Tony Carrk, research director at Hillary for America, in an email dated January 23, 2016, and disclosed to the public for the first time ever during today's latest Wikileak of Podesta emails.

In the email Carrk says:
The 3 (I misspoke about 5 earlier) speeches to Goldman are attached with
some parts highlighted. Below are some of the more noteworthy quotes.
The highlights Carrk refers to are the following:

In the first excerpt Hillary Clinton (rightfully) mocks Dodd Frank as nothing but a political contrivance which was created solely for political reasons as "there was also a need to do something because for political reasons." To wit: "*Clinton Said, With Dodd-Frank, There Was "A Need To Do Something Because For Political Reasons" Because Members Of Congress "Can't Sit Idly By And Do Nothing."
"And with political people, again, I would say the same thing, you know, there was a lot of complaining about Dodd-Frank, but there was also a need to do something because for political reasons, if you were an elected member of Congress and people in your constituency were losing jobs and shutting businesses and everybody in the press is saying it's all the fault of Wall Street, you can't sit idly by and do nothing, but what you do is really important." Churkin: UNSC right of veto a cornerstone of global checks and balances system

un security council
© Eduardo Munoz / Reuters
The right of veto in the UN Security Council serves as a cornerstone of global security ensuring that the US and its allies cannot abuse their majority to rubberstamp resolutions on a grand scale, Russia's UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin said.

There is an ongoing discussion about potential Security Council reform, including the issue of the veto right, or the UN Charter's requirement for the SC Permanent Members' unanimity. It remains the cornerstone of the checks and balances system, which was created to guard peace and security after WWII.

While Moscow supports the reform, in order to make the UNSC more effective and representative, it refuses to relinquish its veto right, which may result in the deterioration of global security, Churkin told Russia's Chanel One.

"In the world that we live in, the US and its allies almost always have nine votes in favor of one resolution or another. Therefore, without the veto right, they could just put a resolution on the table and go on rubber-stamping these resolutions," Churkin said.

US readying Syria for Clinton's 'militarism'

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton
US President Barack Obama's policy towards Syria is laying the groundwork for the kind of "militarism," represented by Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the run-up to the US 2016 presidential election, an analyst says.

In an interview with Press TV on Saturday, American author and radio host Stephen Lendman speculated that lame duck Obama would not take any "radical" steps in Syria and would instead prepare the war-ravaged country for his ally and former secretary of state, running for president.

"I don't expect Obama to take radical increases in militarism in Syria," he said. "I think the groundwork is being laid for the kind of militarism that she [Clinton] represents: escalating war in Syria, threatening Russia, [and] risking the possibility of a nuclear war."

Over 50 killed, dozens wounded in 3 separate ISIS attacks in Iraq

More than 50 people were killed in and near the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Saturday, security sources and medics said as cited by Reuters. Terrorists targeted a mass Shi'ite Muslim gathering, as well as a police check-point and home of a militia leader.

The deadliest attack targeted a tent filled with people taking part in Shi'ite rituals, marking Ashura, which commemorates the killing of Prophet Mohammad's grandson Hussein in the 7th century. At least 41 people were killed and 33 injured as a suicide bomber detonated an explosive vest inside a tent at a crowded market in Baghdad's northern al-Shaab district.

Erdogan: A slow cook with political repression as a result of failed US policy

Erdogan
© Unknown
The recent finger pointing and recriminations between the US authorities and Russian president Vladimir Putin has made it only too apparent that the US is determined to create "a threat to strategic stability" through its "unfriendly actions" towards Russia. The US is only too happy to use regional countries to suit its aggressive purposes, as the ever-increasing interference in these countries, which always results in the US having more weapons on the ground, makes clear. But those countries are also using US support to further their own private ends, without the US being able to do anything about this, (especially) if it wants to keep its broader schemes going.

The ongoing "purge" in Turkey, which in addition to journalists, teachers and judges has now removed 12,000 police officers, is the direct consequence of this wanton US disregard for the people living there. Erdogan is taking advantage of the favoured status the US has given the country to conduct some "realpolitik" of his own, trying to turn this once-secular state into a haven of radical Islamists. This is contrary to stated US policy, but the US cannot prevent it without destabilising the country, and thus making it more difficult to destabilise Russia, the ultimate goal.

Will the ruling Turkish regime now have to revert to even more "extreme" measures to re-establish the law and order it frequently ignores itself? How far can Turkey go on this independent path before it ceases to be an asset and the whole scheme blows up in America's face - with equally deleterious consequences for the region?
