Best of the Web: Surveillance of Trump: Former Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice's 'Bill Clinton moment', MSNBC interview

Rice

Former Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice is being accused of asking to "unmask" Trump aides in intelligence reports. She went to Obama-friendly NBC to respond to the claim for the first time in an interview with Andrea Mitchell.

Listen carefully to Rice's words, and it is clear to see she is lying, and admitting to spying on Trump. A good lawyer would tear Rice apart in court.

And a double negative statement like, "I leaked nothing to nobody", is Rice's Bill Clinton moment, when the former POTUS famously told a grand jury (when speaking about his affair with Monica Lewinsky), "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is."

Here is the complete Susan Rice interview...

Comment: One might muse: the better the lie, the truer it sounds.

White House infighting? Roger Stone claims Jared Kushner is leaking information to fake news anchor Joe Scarborough

Kushner and Bannon
This is an absolutely fascinating interview. It proves something that many of us have speculated on for some time, namely that there's a major battle going on within the Trump administration between the Goldman Sachs, establishment-type parasites and the economic-nationalists.

Who wins this battle will determine the fate of the Trump administration.

Susan Rice, Trump surveillance and how a hypnotist sees a verbal slip

Sudan Rice
A few days ago, Mike Cernovich broke the news that ex-Obama advisor Susan Rice had asked for the identities of Americans caught up in electronic surveillance of foreigners, including some Trump associates. After Mike broke the story, the big news organizations followed. I asked my well-informed Trump-hating friend what he thought of the story.

He said he hadn't heard of it.

I was surprised. It was the headline news. While we were on the phone, he checked CNN's website on his computer and informed me that no such story existed. In his words, it was probably "fake news" that he assumed I saw "on Breitbart" or some other site he considers below his standard of news excellence.

So I asked him to navigate over to Business Insider (partly owned by Jeff Bezos) to see if the story was there. And sure enough, it was. Prominently. My friend read the story and agreed it should have been covered on CNN as well.

United Nations Secretary General Stephane Dujarric: UN cannot verify reports about chemical attack in Syria

The United Nations secretariat cannot verify media reports about a chemical attack in the Syrian province of Idlib that killed dozens of people, Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said on Tuesday.

"We are not currently in a position to verify the reports. I saw that earlier today the OPCW fact-finding mission has already announced that it began gathering the information to attempt to confirm the chemical weapons were used," he said.

"Any sort of report of use of chemical weapons, especially on civilians is extremely alarming and disturbing. Any use of chemical weapons anywhere constitutes a threat to peace and security and is a serious violation of international law," he stressed.

In a statement released later in the day, the United Nations Secretary General expressed profound alarm at "the reports of alleged use of chemical weapons in an airstrike in the Khan Shaykhun area of southern Idlib, Syria" and offered "heartfelt condolences to victims of the incident and their families."

He also noted that the United Nations is currently unable "to independently verify these reports" and recalled "that the Security Council previously determined that the use of chemical weapons anywhere constitutes a threat to international peace and security and, that it affirmed that the use of chemical weapons constitutes a serious violation of international law."

'It takes two to tango': Lavrov promises to 'teach Tillerson to dance' after Secretary of State's 'no tango' gibe

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he could teach his US counterpart a few moves, after Rex Tillerson reportedly implied there was no point dancing the diplomatic tango with Lavrov, because Moscow's sole choreographer is Vladimir Putin.

The dance-off began when Tillerson was lunching with other NATO foreign ministers in Brussels last week, a meeting in which he sought to reassure Washington's allies about its commitment to the organization, despite repeated criticisms from President Donald Trump.

As reported by Politico, another politician said to Tillerson that in terms of building better ties with Russia, "it takes two to tango."

Tillerson replied: "You can dance with Russia and you might also gain something out of it. But for sure you cannot tango with Lavrov because he is not allowed to dance that one."

According to Politico's inside source, Tillerson's pirouette won a spontaneous ovation from others around the table.

A man who received an MBE has been exposed as a child abuser who assaulted young children at a care home.

Paedophile Trevor Francis was given his medal by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace in 2012 for his 20 years' work as station master in his home town of Aberdour, Fife in Scotland, as his abuse went undetected.

Francis 71, will be sentenced this month after a jury found him guilty of sexually abusing children in his care during the 1970's at St Margaret's children's home in Elie.

He took over management of the children's home from another paedophile David Murphy and promised that his new regime would protect the vulnerable kids there.

Two years after he was honoured with the MBE one of his victims came forward to police and exposed the abuse she suffered in his care.

US Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-New Hampshire) claims RT and Sputnik are "designed to undermine our democracy" and even compared them to Nazi propaganda while promoting her bill, a reaction to alleged Russian hacking of the 2016 election.

Shaheen took to the Senate floor on Tuesday to promote her bill, entitled "Foreign Agents Registration Modernization and Enforcement Act," which she says would provide the Justice Department with "new and necessary authority to investigate potential violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act by RT America."

President Donald Trump has reorganized the National Security Council, and his Chief Strategist Stephen Bannon is apparently no longer on the Principals Committee, according to a memo that has surfaced.

Bloomberg has posted a memo from Trump, dated April 4, reorganizing the National Security Council and updating the list of officials who sit on its Principals Committee. The document shows no role for Bannon and a reduced role for Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert.

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine General Joseph Dunford, are again considered "regular attendees" of the principals committee.

In addition to Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, the regular attendees will be the secretaries of State, Treasury, Defense, Energy, Homeland Security and the Attorney General; the national and homeland security advisers; and the US envoy to the UN, as well as the CIA director, in addition to the Joint Chiefs chair and the DNI.

The White House chief of staff, counsel and deputy counsel for national security, and the director of the Office of Management and Budget are also invited to attend any NSC meeting, the memo says.

Ex-Georgian President Saakashvili pens fantasy account of 2008 war with Russia

It's been established for some time that former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili is, to put this in the nicest way possible, a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

The disgraced ex-president, who was famously filmed chewing on his tie during the recording of a BBC report, went on to serve as the Governor of Odessa in southern Ukraine for little over a year; a rather strange second act for the former president of an entirely different country.

Saakashvili's fall from grace involved being stripped of Georgian citizenship and ending up on the wanted list for charges of embezzlement and abuse of power, charges he says are politically motivated.

Putin in Q&A forum: 'We're prepared for never-ending sanctions'

Vladimir Putin
Though Monday's terrorist attack on the metro in Russia's second largest city St. Petersburg has understandably stolen most Russia-related headlines during the past few days, a couple events took place in the city concurrently which are worthy of some attention.

President Vladimir Putin paid a visit to Russia's "northern capital" where he held a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko - Moscow's on again, off again ally with whom relations have been strained in recent months. The meeting appears to have been cordial.

Putin also attended the 4th Media Forum of the All-Russian People's Front, a government-sponsored civil society organization meant to unite people from across the political spectrum. About 500 journalists were in attendance from around Russia, and the event was held in "town hall" format - continuing Putin's tradition of holding frequent town hall style Q&A sessions with both the media and members of the public.

Comment: Westerners would do well to listen to the common public discourse Putin has with the press and the people of Russia. He is clearly not the monster he is made out to be. He addresses the concerns of average citizens, and his actions show he follows through. This is clearly a man who cares about his people and who is greatly capable of providing constructive direction to a country under constant attack from the West.
