What is Turkey's role in the Gaza peace plan?

After staying on the sidelines for two years, Turkey is joining a multinational task force to oversee the Israel-Hamas ceasefire. Its exact future role in Gaza, however, remains unclear.

Israel and Hamas have taken a major step toward ending their two-year-long war, agreeing on a deal in Egypt's resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh in line with US President Donald Trump's 20-point peace plan.

Turkey's late involvement in the negotiation process has raised questions about Ankara's influence on the deal — and what concrete role it might play in implementing it.

Trump Says He's Mulling Land Strikes On Venezuela, Confirms CIA Covert Ops

President Trump later in the day Wednesday verbalized that he's mulling a land operation or strikes in Venezuela following a New York Times report that same day which said he had authorized CIA covert operations targeting the Maduro government.

"We are certainly looking at land now because we've got the sea under control. We've had a couple of days now where there isn't a boat to be found," Trump told reporters inside the Oval Office when asked about the issue. Below is direct confirmation from the Commander-in-Chief:

Comment: For many, many years Washington has sought to keep Venezuela in upheaval and strife but has failed to end Maduro's reign. More than likely the CIA has always been involved with destabilizing Venezuela but now are being "authorized" to do so by Trump. The regime change playbook has been opened for all to see. Will other countries like Russia and China step up to help support Maduro?

British intelligence services are directly involved in orchestrating Ukrainian attacks on internationally-owned energy sites in Russia and are plotting further operations against a key regional pipeline, Federal Security Service (FSB) Director Aleksandr Bortnikov has claimed.

Speaking on Thursday at a meeting of security chiefs in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Bortnikov claimed that personnel from the UK's Special Air Service (SAS) and MI6 spy agency helped plan Ukrainian drone strikes on assets of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) earlier this year. The consortium, which includes major US companies such as Chevron and ExxonMobil, exports Kazakh oil through Russia.

Best of the Web: Pekka-philia: disgraced porn profiteer turned pro-Ukraine 'disinfo expert' could face legal action

Pekka Kallioniemi
Faux disinformation expert Pekka Kallioniemi gained notoriety by smearing critics of the Ukraine proxy war. Since being unmasked for peddling pornographic representations of minors, Kallioniemi has been caught promoting fraudulent KGB documents to slander a journalist as a Russian spy.

In October 2024, mainstream Canadian defense journalist David Pugliese suffered "the political equivalent of a drive-by shooting," according to a local publication called The Walrus. Citing alleged KGB documents, a prominent lawmaker accused Pugliese of being a longstanding Soviet/Russian spy during a parliamentary hearing on "disinformation." Those files turned out to be blatant forgeries, but parliamentary privilege insulated the accuser from a defamation suit.

However, the same protections do not apply to a self-proclaimed "disinformation expert" named Pekka Kallioniemi, who simultaneously promoted the fraudulent material.

France leading EU drive to remove messaging privacy - Telegram founder

Pavel Durov

Pavel Durov has accused the French authorities of promoting surveillance in the name of law enforcement.

France is leading an EU effort to scan private messages, Telegram founder Pavel Durov said on Tuesday. The bloc recently delayed the proposed "Chat Control" law over privacy concerns after Germany opposed the plan, the Russian-born billionaire stressed.

The proposed legislation, intended to combat child sexual abuse material (CSAM), would require digital platforms to detect and report harmful content, including messages protected by end-to-end encryption. While EU officials have presented it as a tool to protect children online, critics argue that it risks enabling mass surveillance and seriously undermining digital privacy.

Durov shared a message Telegram sent to its French users, accusing politicians of supporting what he described as "an authoritarian law." The post mentioned both current and former interior ministers, Laurent Nunez and Bruno Retailleau, as backers of the legislation that claims to "fight crime," but targets regular people.

Best of the Web: Secret Israeli military bunker located under Tel Aviv tower struck by Iran, analysis shows

unknown command center?

The Grayzone has geolocated the underground bunker of an important military command and control center nestled within a densely populated Tel Aviv neighborhood. Known as 'Site 81,' the U.S.-built facility houses a hyper-secretive intelligence base.

When Iran struck a series of targets in the heart of north Tel Aviv with ballistic missiles on June 13, Israeli authorities immediately cordoned off the area to prevent journalists from filming the damage. "The building on this compound was just hit," Trey Yingst of Fox News reported as he arrived that evening at the site of HaKirya, Israel's Defense Ministry headquarters, and the nearby Azrieli Center. But within seconds, Israeli police officers arrived to aggressively shunt Yingst away from where he was standing, just north of the HaKirya Bridge on the west side of Menachem Begin Road.

That day, Iranian missiles struck the north tower of the Da Vinci apartment complex roughly 550 meters southwest of Yingst's location. The Grayzone has determined that the building sits immediately south of the "Canarit" / "Kannarit" Israeli Air Force towers and above an underground military intelligence bunker jointly administered by the US and Israeli militaries. According to an analysis of leaked emails, public documents, and Israeli news reports, the location is host to a highly secretive, electromagnetically shielded intelligence facility known as "Site 81."

Israeli war propaganda on social media

Natan Sharansky

Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition government has taken control of TikTok and plans to control the social network X as well. However, the State of Israel's propaganda has long eluded its citizens. Its purpose has never been publicly discussed. A small group decides its messages alone, without considering what would be useful to Israelis — such as combating anti-Semitism. The state's resources have been seized solely by "revisionist Zionists," even though they are an ultra-minority.

Israeli propaganda (הַסְבָּרָה - hasbara ) has rarely been a function of Israeli governments, but rather an operation of associations partially funded by them. These associations, which have their own ideologies, are not accountable for their actions to the Israeli people, but exclusively to their sponsors, including the governments in Tel Aviv. The self-proclaimed "largest democracy in the Middle East" thus funds profoundly anti-democratic operations without the knowledge of its citizens.

Israel's chronic instability since its founding and the habit of appointing central directors of ministries according to political criteria rather than competence have blurred Israel's message. Several competing powers deliver different messages [ 1 ]. Ultimately, an authority was created for "public diplomacy" (propaganda). It has become particularly secretive.

Macron urged to quit to end France political crisis

Lecornu
© Stephane MaheLecornu said he would try to find a solution by Wednesday evening
President Emmanuel Macron was on Tuesday under pressure even from allies to find a rapid solution to France's political deadlock, after his first prime minister and one-time ally urged him to resign for the sake of the country.

Macron, president since 2017, has been battling the worst domestic political crisis of his presidency after the shock resignation on Monday of his seventh prime minister, Sebastien Lecornu.

Macron gave Lecornu until Wednesday evening to thrash out a compromise for a sustainable coalition government but it is far from certain these efforts can succeed.

If this fails, one option is for Macron to dissolve parliament and hold snap legislative elections in the hope of having a more workable make-up in the legislature.

Macron on Tuesday evening held talks with the speakers of both the upper and lower houses of parliament, said an aide, asking not to be named.

The purpose of the separate meetings was not made clear but the president is obliged to consult both speakers if new elections are planned.

Tomahawks won't solve anything - Lukashenko

The US could trigger a nuclear war by sending the missiles to Ukraine, the Belarusian president has warned.

The US won't solve the Ukraine conflict by sending Tomahawk missiles to Kiev, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said, warning that such a move would only escalate tensions.

Last month, American officials suggested Washington could be open to sending Tomahawks to Ukraine, although US President Donald Trump has stressed that no final decision has yet been made on the issue.

Tomahawk missiles cost about $1.3 million each and have a range of around 2,500 kilometers, allowing Ukraine, in theory, to strike targets deep inside Russian territory, including Moscow and beyond.

Speaking in Minsk on Tuesday, Lukashenko stressed that arming Kiev with these missiles would not resolve the conflict but could "escalate the situation into a nuclear war."

He added that Trump "understands this better than anyone" and suggested the US president is in "no hurry" to hand over such lethal weapons or authorize strikes deep into Russia, as requested by Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky.

Comment: It would seem Trump and Putin are in agreement.

Erdogan forced Netanyahu to cancel Sharm el-Sheikh trip after threat to turn plane around

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu canceled his planned trip to the Sharm el-Sheikh summit after a dramatic intervention by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to Israel Hayom.

The Israeli website reports that Erdogan phoned Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi mid-flight, warning that his plane "would not land if Netanyahu attended."

Erdogan's message was clear; either Netanyahu withdraws, or the Turkish leader's aircraft returns to Ankara. Within minutes of consultations between US, Israeli, and Egyptian officials, Netanyahu canceled his participation. Erdogan's plane then landed safely in Egypt.

Comment: Associated Press adds:
On Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani also warned Egyptian and U.S. officials that he would withdraw from the summit if Netanyahu attended, according to the state-run Iraqi News Agency.

Erdogan did not comment publicly over Turkey's role in preventing Netanyahu's attendance.

In a speech on Tuesday, Erdogan hailed the declaration signed in Egypt as a significant step toward halting what he described as "genocide" in Gaza. Erdogan has repeatedly accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza — an allegation Israel strongly denies.
Netenyahu's presence would have been an insult to those who, whether half-heartedly or sincerely, are trying to find a solution for the relief of Palestinians, whose suffering is squarely at the feet of the Israeli prime minister and his rabid cabinet.
