Free and Fair?

tina Peters

"The prison sentence made Ms. Peters, 70, a martyr for the election-denial movement, and launched a fruitless campaign by Mr. Trump's followers to win her release from state prison."
The NY Times
"Election denier" is a curious term. It implies that anyone who even questions the validity of an election is not right in the head, maybe even. . . a heretic, a sociopath, a criminal, an enemy of the people! The New York Times flogs the term incessantly as a sort of talisman, to ward off suspicions (branded as evil) that US elections are anything but free, fair, and upright.

Tina Peters was County Clerk in Mesa County, western Colorado, at the time of the 2020 elections, which Donald Trump won in her county by a 63-percent margin, though "Joe Biden" won the state. In May, 2021, during a so-called "trusted build" update of her county's Dominion ballot tabulation machine software, Tina Peters sought evidence that the machines were capable of being manipulated by wireless internet. She made copies of the hard drives and published passwords online, exposing proprietary software and sensitive system information. She was indicted in 2022 on 13 counts and convicted in August of 2024 on seven counts.

Mearsheimer: US diplomacy is 'going nowhere' & Ukraine is doomed

With Zelensky having much-belatedly dropped aspirations for Ukraine's NATO membership, European officials are now openly admitting what pretty much everyone knew but was afraid to say.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has newly acknowledged in fresh remarks that Ukraine's membership in the military alliance is now obviously "out of the question" - but that the European Union now needs to provide concrete security guarantees.

"Now if this [Ukraine's NATO membership] is not in question, or this is out of the question, then we need to see what are the security guarantees that are tangible. They can't be papers, or promises, they have to be real troops, real capabilities," she told reporters ahead of an EU Foreign Ministers meeting.

German reunification was a 'takeover' - Lavrov

The Soviet Union betrayed East Germans and its own interests by trusting Western promises, the Russian foreign minister has said

Germany's reunification in 1990 was carried out in a way that overwhelmingly benefited the western part of the country and amounted to a betrayal of East Germans by the Soviet Union, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

Speaking to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB on Monday, Lavrov argued that the process laid the groundwork for modern Germany's renewed militarism, which Moscow views with growing concern.

Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev agreed to the unification of the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic after receiving assurances that NATO would not expand further eastward - promises that were later broken.
"This was a mistake and betrayal on the part of the Soviet Union, when almost half a million troops were withdrawn without any compensation, and the opportunity to maintain their presence in the eastern part of united Germany was ignored," Lavrov said.

EU sanctions Swiss ex-colonel for disseminating accurate information about the Ukraine-Russia war

Comment: That's the truth. Now for the spin:

The EU has placed a former Swiss army officer on its sanctions list. Ex-Colonel Jacques Baud undermined the stability of Ukraine with pro-Russian propaganda and conspiracy theories

The EU has added a former Swiss army colonel to its sanctions list (PDF). According to the EU, 70-year-old Jacques Baud spread conspiracy theories in connection with Russia's military invasion of Ukraine and acted as a mouthpiece for pro-Russian propaganda.

The "strategic analyst" is a "regular" guest on pro-Russian television and radio programs, according to the EU executive order published on Monday. Baud has, for example, accused Ukraine of having brought about its own invasion in order to join NATO.

New book says Israel utilized Palantir technology in its 2024 Lebanon pager attack

Claims the US tech company was involved in Lebanon attack that killed dozens and wounded thousands

Palantir software was used by Israel in its 2024 pager attacks in Lebanon, according to a new book by Alex Karp, co-founder of the Palantir tech company.

On 17 September, thousands of pagers belonging to Hezbollah members, including civilians not involved in any armed activity, were detonated across Lebanon.

Many showed "error" messages and vibrated loudly prior to exploding, luring Hezbollah members or, in some cases, their family members to stand close by at the point of detonation.

Trump has shattered the European liberal illusion

The liberal world order is collapsing under the weight of its own arrogance, and at the very moment Europe drowns in a self-inflicted civilizational crisis, the White House has released a national security strategy powerful enough to redefine the future of the West. Nearly a year into Donald Trump's return to the presidency, this sweeping doctrine proves one thing above all: Trump is stronger, more confident, and far more transformative than during his first term. His movement to dismantle the liberal establishment and uproot the 'deep state' is not a dream - it is an unfolding reality. And its effects are already radiating far beyond American borders.

This strategy is nothing less than a funeral bell for the post-Cold War fantasy world created by globalists, technocrats, and the architects of endless intervention. Trump accepts what the previous political class refused to face: We now live in a multipolar, post-liberal age. Woke ideology has failed. Nations are back. Identity matters. Borders matter. Sovereignty matters. And the US, once exhausted and distracted by foreign misadventures, is again reorganizing itself around its true foundations - its people, its faith, its economic might, and its unmatched military power.

US sets out condition for Ukraine security guarantees - Axios

Kiev could receive assurances as part of a peace deal if it agrees to territorial concessions, the report says.

The administration of US President Donald Trump is willing to offer Kiev NATO-style and Congress-approved security guarantees if it agrees on territorial concessions to Russia, Axios reported on Saturday, citing sources. Ukraine has rejected any concessions and has called instead for a ceasefire - a proposal Moscow has dismissed as a ploy to win time and prolong the conflict.

The outlet cited unnamed US officials as saying that negotiations on security guarantees from the US and EU nations to Ukraine had made "significant progress." An Axios source claimed that Washington wanted a guarantee "that will not be a blank check ... but will be strong enough. We are willing to send it to Congress to vote on it."

The package proposal, the official continued, would entail territorial concessions, with Ukraine "retaining sovereignty over about 80% of its territory" and receiving "the biggest and strongest security guarantee it has ever got," alongside a "very significant prosperity package."

Ukraine wants West to pay for election

Kiev is ready to call a vote once its demands are met, Vladimir Zelensky's top adviser has said.

Kiev is ready to hold an election, but only if a series of conditions are met, including Western funding of the vote, Mikhail Podoliak, a senior adviser to Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, has said.

Zelensky's presidential term expired in May 2024, but he has refused to organize elections, citing martial law. Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump said Kiev should no longer use the ongoing conflict as an excuse for the delay.

Moscow has maintained that Zelensky has "lost his legitimate status," which would undermine the legality of any peace deal signed with him.

Zelensky has claimed he was not trying to "cling to power," declaring this week readiness for the elections, but insisting that Kiev needs help from the US and European countries "to ensure security" during a vote.

Podoliak expanded on the position on Friday, writing on X that Zelensky had called on parliament to prepare changes to the constitution and laws. Podoliak, however, added that three conditions must be met for a vote to go ahead.

EU member says it won't finance Ukraine

Babis

The Czech Republic will not take part in any financial support of Ukraine, Prime Minister Andrej Babis has said, adding that the bloc must find other ways to continue funding Kiev.

The right-wing Euroskeptic politician, who was appointed prime minister earlier this week, campaigned on prioritizing domestic issues. He has long criticized the extensive aid to Kiev under his predecessor Petr Fiala, whose cabinet launched a major international munitions procurement scheme for Ukraine.

In a video posted to his official Facebook page on Saturday, Babis said he had spoken with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, a vocal opponent of the European Commission's plan to fund Kiev through a so-called "reparations loan" tied to about $200 billion in Russian assets frozen in the bloc. The Commission aims to reach a deal on the scheme next week, but De Wever - whose country hosts the financial clearinghouse Euroclear, where the bulk of the assets are held - has called it tantamount to "stealing" Russian money.

"I agree with him. The European Commission must find other ways to finance Ukraine," Babis said.

Comment: On the flip-side:
A Prague-based military startup is accused of tax evasion after selling remotely piloted aircraft at a 2,000% markup.

Reactive Drone, a company registered in the Czech Republic, is under investigation following a raid after selling drones to the Ukrainian army at prices up to 20 times above market value, Prague International Radio (PIR) reported on Monday, citing the National Centre for Combating Organized Crime (NCOZ).

The Prague-based firm is owned by Konstantin Pilyaev and Ukrainian national Aleksey Kolesnik, who also run a hospitality business in the EU country, RTVI reported on Monday. In Ukraine, the company is viewed as a defense startup supplying the military, including through government contracts, with Chinese agricultural drones and its own designs.

The news comes amid an ongoing corruption scandal in Ukraine, which relies heavily on Western support for its war effort. Earlier this month, anti-corruption agencies NABU and SAPO said they had uncovered a $100 million kickback scheme involving associates of Vladimir Zelensky in the energy sector, which is largely dependent on Western aid.

NCOZ said Reactive Drone bought the aircraft for 36 million crowns ($1.6 million) and resold them to Ukraine for 692 million crowns (over $33 million), while owing at least 130 million crowns ($6.2 million) in unpaid taxes. Investigators said the director and accountant used fictitious invoices to lower the tax base and that the firm operated from a virtual address with a non-working phone number. Most of the proceeds - 638 million crowns ($30.5 million) - were transferred to bank accounts in China.

Authorities seized about 384 million crowns ($18.3 million) from the company's accounts and arrested Pilyaev, according to RTVI, with the company's accountant admitting to involvement in the scheme. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry did not respond to PIR's requests for comment.

The EU has been ranked among major suppliers of military aid to Kiev since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022. Western arms producers have seen record profits amid the ongoing conflict and the EU's open-ended commitment to continue arming Kiev "for as long as it takes."

Russian President Vladimir Putin said last month that the situation in Ukraine is merely a "card" in a broader geopolitical game for Western countries, a pretext to pursue their own goals and profit from the war.

SOTT Focus: NewsReal: Oil Tanker Attacks on 'Shadow Fleets', Massacre of Jews in Sydney

newsreal oil tankers venezuela ukraine mass shooting sydney
© Sott.net
An Iranian/Venezuelan "shadow fleet" oil tanker seized by the US military somewhere off the coast of Venezuela. Five oil tankers, "part of the Russian shadow fleet," blown up, sunk, or badly damaged in the Black Sea and off the west African coast. "Ukraine" claims 3 of the latter, but who's behind the other two attacks? And is it mere coincidence that the US government has resorted to 'piracy' at a time when the Kiev regime has begun sinking tankers?

Today, a mass shooting targeted Jews gathered at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, to mark Hanukkah, leaving 15 of them dead and many more injured. The deadliest mass shooting of Jews anywhere since the massacre by a right-winger at a synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018, the Bondi Beach attack appears to have been carried out by two Australian Muslims of Pakistani origin. Was this spontaneous violence motivated by 'revenge for Gaza'? If so, it comes at the worst possible time for free speech in Australia.

Finally, rare guilty confession from the British government this week: "Yes, we have active-duty soldiers in Ukraine, and yes, we know that 'Covid vaccines' are dangerous, but no, you can't see our data on this!"
