Vermont Farmer Crushes 7 Police Cars with Tractor Over Pot Arrest

A Vermont farmer used his tractor to crush seven Orleans County Sheriff's Department squad cars on Thursday because he was angry about being arrested on marijuana charges last month.

"It's more than half our fleet," Chief Deputy Sheriff Phil Brooks explained to the Burlington Free Press. "We have 11 cars."

Roger Pion, 34, allegedly flattened five marked cruisers and two unmarked vehicles, including a van used for transporting prisoners. A car belonging the the department's bookkeeper was also damaged as the tractor pushed it to clear a path to the squad cars.

"It was a massive tractor," Newport Express publisher Ken Wells told the Free Press. "It has four six-foot tandem wheels on the back. It was red. It must be at least a 15-ton tractor."

"It's pretty much the biggest tractor you can get," Police Chief Seth DiSanto agreed.

The suspect ditched the tractor about two miles from the crime scene and then fled on foot before being apprehended, according to WCAX. He has been turned over to the Vermont State Police.

Pion was previously arrested on July 3 for marijuana possession and resisting arrest. His court date had been set for next Tuesday.

Newnan, Georgia, U.S. -- A Chihuahua is being hailed as a hero after authorities say it sniffed out two girls who were lost in a Georgia forest.

The girls, ages 5 and 8, disappeared Monday for a couple of hours when they were walking on trails near their neighborhood about 30 miles southwest of Atlanta. As police and firefighters began to search for the girls, neighbor Carvin Young grabbed his 3-year-old Chihuahua and joined the search.

Rebecca Parga, the girls' mother, says her children play with Bell almost every day, and the dog is very familiar with them.

The girls, Carlie and Lacey, were scared when they were found but were not hurt.

Five strange but true stories

5. Hot toddy

A Georgia man tells police that attackers set his head on fire. But surveillance video shows him convincing friends to douse him in overproof rum then light it so he can lurch round a bar in flames then go to hospital. Police won't charge him because some things are their own punishment. Like jokes that start: A guy walks into a saloon and the bartender says "Hey buddy, why the red face?"

4. Shot mouse

A camper near Wawa tries to kill a mouse with a rifle and barely survives. See, he was pounding at it with the butt end and, ooops, was it loaded? In uptight Ontario he will be charged, with careless use of a firearm. Still, he's lucky it wasn't a rat.

Unintentional Innuendos!! Women's Group Thanks Man for "Pleasing 15 Women for an Entire Day"

Image
A women's group placed a notice of thanks in their local paper to George Brownridge, several years ago, which accidentally made him a laughing stock, recently, on the Internet.

The note thanked Brownridge for "pleasing 15 women for an entire day" and added "We were all rather exhausted and satisfied and we look forward to next year... We all thank you."

The old newspaper notice went viral on the web, as did the apology in the [unnamed] newspaper.

Time-lapse is one of the hottest trends in photography nowadays, thanks in part to the wider availability of high-end cameras, high-resolution video and high production values. But you need some high-class talent behind the lens as well.

It doesn't hurt that the past year has been a gold mine for the glories of the night sky, especially the northern lights. We've featured quite a few time-lapse videos of the aurora, as seen from Earth and from space, and you can click through a few of our favorites below. The latest stunner to surface comes from photographer Brad Goldpaint, whose work we featured just a few days ago.

Goldpaint's three-minute time-lapse, titled "Within Two Worlds," features three years' worth of sky imagery collected from a variety of locales - including the Three Sisters Wilderness, Crater Lake and Sparks Lake in Oregon as well as Mono Lake and Mount Shasta in California.

"I discovered my passion for photography shortly after my mother's passing while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail three years ago," Goldpaint writes. "This time-lapse video is my visual representation of how the night sky and landscapes co-exist within a world of contradictions. I hope this connection between heaven and earth inspires you to discover and create your own opportunities, to reach your rightful place within two worlds."

Image
Belgian village of Sivry Rance on the border with France
In the Belgian village of Sivry Rance an inspector of the Department of Health was attacked by the customers of the Café de la poste and stripped naked. The man was controlling the ban on smoking in bars.

Albert D. (53) was, along with thirty other colleagues, responsible for the control of the entire Belgian territory. His inspection was unannounced and happened as always on a random list of catering businesses.

Cafe de la Poste in the center of the village serves a daily special at noon but in the evening is frequented by a slightly rougher clientele: mostly members of the local Hell's Angels. According to eyewitnesses, the inspector was stripped to his pants. Personal belongings were tossed way back in the barroom supported by some intense cheering.

Afterwards the man was dropped in the forest and found shelter in an old gamekeeper's house. dressed in an old horse blanket, he managed to reach the local police station . The public prosecutor of Charleroi condemned this aggression and intimidation of a public official. The prosecution asks anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the police.

What 'Queen Romney' Has Been Reading - A Misconception of Compassion

The lower classes have the right to contemplate the splendor of the higher classes and to be inspired by it.
Painting by Michel-Garnier
© Painting by Michel-GarnierThe higher classes have the duty to shine in the eyes of the lower classes.
Dear me, it appears that Lady Romney has lost her patience with the riff raff and their unseemly questioning about money. One simply doesn't respond when the lower orders begin to believe they're better than they ought to be:
"We've given all you people need to know and understand about our financial situation and how we live our life," she said.
Indeed they have. The very idea that a man of Mitt Romney's obvious superiority could be questioned about his finances is utterly offensive.
Enough.
