Authorities in South Carolina say a boy has died after the child was attacked by a dog earlier this week.

According to Anderson County authorities, the reported dog attack occurred on Thursday afternoon. Deputies were called to a home on Wilson Street, where a 5-month-old child and an adult were seriously injured.

Officials said the victims were treated at the AnMed Medical Center. However, the young boy had to be flown to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville due to the life-threatening injuries he sustained.

Sadly, the child died on Friday afternoon. The Anderson County coroner said the boy died from multiple traumatic injuries, with his death being ruled accidental.

The adult victim suffered serious injuries but was able to be released after receiving medical treatment.

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said the animal in question initially ran away from the house following the attack, but deputies were able to secure it later.

The dog was taken to Anderson County PAWS, an animal shelter, while law enforcement investigates.
