Human intelligence appeared to peak in the early 2010s and has been in decline since, the FT added, citing PISA, an international benchmarking test for 15-year-olds that includes reading, mathematics and science, and adult cognitive evaluations.
The reported trend comes amid a rise in artificial intelligence (AI) which, by some estimates, may surpass human IQ in a matter of years.
The recorded spike in the share of high school students who reported difficulties in PISA tests coincides with a broad change in people's relationship with information, such as the transition away from reading and towards visual content, the publication explained.
While active, intentional use of digital technologies can often be beneficial, being passively exposed to infinite content on social media coupled with frequent context-switching has been shown to negatively impact attention span, memory, and self-regulation. The documented decline in reading among Americans reportedly comes alongside a decrease in numeracy and other forms of problem-solving in most countries.
Human intellectual capabilities, such as critical thinking, have also been impacted by generative AI, according to recent research by Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon University. Outsourcing thoughts to AI leaves people's minds "atrophied and unprepared," which can lead to "the deterioration of cognitive faculties that ought to be preserved."
Companies and governments have poured billions into AI research, focusing on areas such as machine learning, natural language processing, and automation. Tech giants like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI have introduced increasingly sophisticated models, such as ChatGPT and Gemini, capable of performing complex cognitive tasks.
AI could become smarter than humans in the next three years, tech billionaire Elon Musk warned in December, shortly after his AI company, xAI, launched its first image generation model, Aurora.

I also read somewhere that their thumbs were getting longer and more articulate, because of the phones or whatever, but I think I need a grain of salt with that one.
And the education level is definitely dropping.
As an example, I was paying for a couple of cups of coffee and the girl had to make change for a $20 bill. I quickly did the calculation in my head and told her the answer. She stammered, pulled out her phone and did the calculations - same answer. She looked at me with a look that said 'how did you do that?'.
I also have a story about some kid asking me what time it was. I flashed him my watch, he couldn't figure out what time it was, he was used to a digital watch.

I think it's because they don't handle cash any more. They don't have to count, they don't have to add and subtract, they don't have to multiply and divide. All they have to do is wave or rub a piece of plastic at some kind of sensor.

My son is the latter generation, and he's not bent, and neither are his friends. They seem naturally ultra conservative, and uninterested in decadence. They don't drink or smoke, all have jobs right out of high-school, did well in school, despite adversity. They're a good bunch of kids, IMO, and I do feel hope when I see those guys.
My little brother was a millennial, and he died by the time he was 33. He spent his entire adult life in prison or on parole. All of his friends were ether gay, hooked on meth, bikers, and/or taking pharmaceutical dope, and all too stupid to realize how screwed up they were, even after death and crippling accidents related to that irresponsible life-style. They were a fucking disaster.
That's been my personal experience, I know everybody else's mileage may vary, but it is what it is. Demographics might have a little to do with it, but I grew up here too, and I'm not nearly as well adjusted as my son and his peers..and my little brother grew up here too, so...IDK.

This is a real problem in the education of children today. Much of it depends on the ability to control attention. You begin with a question or idea and attempt to examine it from different perspectives and through time. Children are being trained on sound bytes and visual shifts of less than a second, which prevents them learning this skill

I was born in 1982, what placed me in a generational interstice. This is a whole experience, but in terms of perception, it is advantageous. For example, I answered both, 'old' and 'new' state exams in high-school (circa 1998). The new one was promoted as the panacea for education issues. The rating of my country in state exams was over only another country: Honduras, but; with the new exam —based on 'competences'—, international rating would increase. And it did it. What none, never, nowhere said, is this new exam did not educate more, but demanded much less education. It was like to tell population "The water level increased" when it didn't, but the capacity line was erased and painted again meters below the original. Those who made both the old and the new exam, knew how demanding was the old one. No comparison possible. The old one selected and highlighted the smart people, the new one make all of them look smart. This was about mid 90s. Now we have this headline, again.
All of you remember one of the plan for humanity in the silent war is to make us dumb. Critical thinking was deleted from curriculums all over the world. Our sons use their smartphones to multiply 120x3, and take pictures of printed announces instead of writing or memorize. They hardly think. They believe and acquiesce everything MSM says.

For the axiom 1÷2=0,5
Logical thinkers will accept it: One divided by two is zero is 0,5. That's what teacher told me (and teachers are always right).
Analytical thinkers will put the axiom to proof: They will divide a cake to test if the measure of the half cake is the half of the measure of original cake.
Critical thinkers will submit the axiom to a change of context, to test it. They will state, for example: 1÷2=0,5 in most cases, but not in all of them. Cells divide to reproduce, however, once a cell is divided, the result is not two half new cells, but two complete/entire/whole cells. So, for this concept, 1÷2≠0,5.
So imagine how dangerous are critical thinkers for elites.
