The Amazura is a large venue with a capacity of 4,000, and regularly hosts DJs and live performances. A significant police and ambulance response was observed outside the nightclub.
The motive behind the shooting so far remains unknown, and no suspects have been identified. The perpetrators are believed to have fled the scene, prompting an ongoing manhunt. The Queens Police Department is expected to provide more details in a forthcoming press conference.
Earlier on Wednesday, the US witnessed two significant incidents - a terrorist attack in New Orleans and an explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck in Las Vegas.
In the early hours of New Year's Day, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US Army veteran from Texas, drove a rented Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The attack resulted in 15 fatalities and injured over 35. After crashing, Jabbar exited the vehicle and engaged in a firefight with police, during which he was fatally shot. An Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) flag was found in his truck, and explosives were discovered at the scene, leading the FBI to investigate the incident as an act of terrorism.
Later, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. The vehicle, rented in Colorado via the Turo app, was found to contain firework mortars and gas canisters, suggesting the explosion was intentional. The driver was killed, and seven others sustained minor injuries. The authorities are investigating the incident as a potential act of terrorism and are exploring possible connections to the New Orleans attack, given the similarities in the rental methods and timing.
