On Friday, Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, stated that Moscow strongly condemns Israeli strikes targeting Syria, deeming them unacceptable and provocative.

"We strongly condemn these provocative military actions, which can lead to extremely dangerous consequences in the context of a sharp deterioration of the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone," the spokeswoman said in a statement while also calling Israeli actions "unacceptable."

The statements come after an Israeli aggression on Aleppo resulted in the deaths of 40 people.

In addition to the number of martyrs, the Syrian Ministry of Defense said that the aggression was carried out on multiple sites across the city and resulted in extensive amounts of material damage.

The Ministry further said that the aggression coincided with a drone attack carried out by terrorist organizations from Idlib and the western countryside of Aleppo.

Forty people, including five members of Hezbollah, were martyred in the attacks, Reuters reported, citing two security sources.

Comment: So, 35 civilians?

The attacks took place at about 1:45 am on Friday while the Israeli airstrike originated from Athriya, southeast of Aleppo Governorate.

Shortly before this aggression, Syrian news agencies on Thursday reported that two civilians sustained injuries in a residential building in the countryside of Damascus due to an Israeli attack.

Amid heightened regional tensions, the past few days have witnessed intensified strikes on Syria.

Sources told Al Mayadeen on Tuesday a number of people were martyred and injured in an overnight aggression on Deir Ezzor, al-Bukamal, al-Salihiyah, and al-Mayadin east Syria.

The sources said that the US and "Israel" launched multiple "joint-terror" attacks on the four aforementioned areas at exactly 1:49 am (local time) on March 26, 2024.

The Iranian Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that a military advisor of the Islamic Revolution's Guard Corps (IRGC) was martyred in the overnight attacks "carried out by the US on eastern Syria."
