Deputies were called to a home in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, about 35 miles northeast of Kansas City, on Oct. 24 after neighbors reported an Amazon van had been sitting in front of a house for several hours, Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers said.
The van had been running with its lights on, NBC affiliate KSHB reported.
When deputies arrived, they found the delivery driver's body in the yard, along with two aggressive dogs, according to Childers.
The dogs ran inside of the home, and Childers said deputies found blood on the doggie doors on the property, KSHB reported. The owners of the residence were not home and appeared to be out of town, Childers said.
Deputies shot and killed the two dogs, Childers said. The dogs were a German shepherd and an English mastiff, the station reported.
The medical examiner's office will determine the man's cause of death, but Childers said the driver sustained wounds that indicated he was attacked by an animal. Officials did not identify the driver and deputies are working to notify his family.
"We're deeply saddened by tonight's tragic incident involving a member of our Amazon family and will be providing support to the team and the driver's loved ones," Lisa Levandowski, a spokesperson for Amazon, said in a statement to NBC News. "We are assisting law enforcement in their investigation."
A U.S. Postal Service worker died in Florida in August when she was attacked by five dogs after her vehicle broke down. Pamela Jane Rock, 61, had just started her job as a postal worker in December, her niece told NBC affiliate WTLV.

That their dogs never attacked anyone before and they were protecting the property.
May even go so far as to say the Amazon driver was trying to burglarize the house or some such bullshint.
I love dogs, but despise most dog owners.
Most people don't deserve to be animal custodians.
That their dogs never attacked anyone beforeIt's a bit like the logic of: "He never murdered anyone prior to this, so it must be the victim's fault." Dogs smell fear, and walking unwittingly into the territory of two pedigree dog-brick-shit-houses will probable make anyone ping in fear like a meal in the microwave.
One dog gets you, just punch him on the bridge of the nose as hard as you can, right in front of his eyes at a 90 degree angle straight down towards the bottom of it's mouth when they lock on. Lights out. It does wonders. Their snouts are super sensitive.
Two big dogs wanting to bite you, you are kind of screwed. The second one is already shaking it's head trying to rip pieces off even if you drop the first one.
This one dude's rottweiler kept trying to bite me he was laughing. I told him i was going to punch his dog if he let his dog keep trying to intimidate me, he was like "go ahead, my dog will take you out." I hit his dog like i mentioned. The dog would only really listen to me after that. I had to be at the vet's office when they guy had to get his dog seen, and I had to be the one giving his dog it's shots after that. It was like the dog had instant respect.
The shit part about that move though, is you have to let the dog actually bite you first. Offer it your weak arm.
Like I said before, a LOT of people are SHIT dog owners. You shouldn't have to hit someone else's dog to begin with.
Apologies for the perhaps insensitive comment, but let's try and see things from another angle: This is a world of suffering and pain, in order to learn and pay off our karmic debts... so, if someone dies, what might appear painful and tragic to us, may be a rejoicing and blessing for them on the other side. Rather than just feel sorry for him, which will get nothing in the long run, at least pray for his soul.
"And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill by sword, by famine, by plague, and by the beasts of the earth ." Revelation 6:8.
Who knows what karma that man had to fulfill.
