Mexican TV star dies from parasitic tissue infection after reportedly eating tapeworm-contaminated pork

Actor Sebastian Ferrat, beloved in his native Mexico, has died after a long and horrifying struggle with an infection he reportedly contracted from contaminated pork. Is 2020 the year to give up bacon?

Fans are in deep sorrow as Sebastian Ferrat, 41, died on Sunday after a long battle with a grave illness that local media identified as cysticercosis, a parasitic infection that attacks the brain, muscles, or other tissues. According to reports, the actor, best-known for his roles in various television dramas, contracted the deadly infection after eating spoiled pork.

He reportedly languished in a coma for several months in hospital before finally succumbing to the infection.

While cysticercosis can be contracted by eating bad pork, the terrifying condition is actually the result of food or beverages being contaminated by tapeworm eggs from human feces. In some cases, pigs become infected by eating the tapeworm eggs - which originate from humans suffering from tapeworms.

Cysticercosis is included on the World Health Organisation's list of so-called "neglected diseases" - a group of illnesses that prevail mostly in tropical and subtropical conditions and affect "populations living in poverty, without adequate sanitation and in close contact with infectious vectors and domestic animals."

Sadly, the case of Sebastian Ferrat proves that the infection can target anyone, even TV stars are not safe.

At the same time, another worrying illness - typhoid - made headlines in relation to US movie celebrity Zac Efron. The star of 'High School Musical' and 'The Greatest Showman' was reportedly admitted to hospital in Australia with typhoid or a "similar bacterial infection," while filming a survival TV show in Papua New Guinea.

Luckily, he was able to fly home for the holidays, and thanked everyone for their support via Instagram.

Comment: While the incidents noted above by themselves aren't particularly significant, and the risk of contracting an infection of one kind or another are heightened due to unsanitary conditions or when in an unfamiliar country, if we take into account the sheer number of reports of outbreaks and unusual infectious diseases, there does appear to be a trend - here are some stories from just this year:

I gave up eating pork after I read the book Eat Right 4 Your Type, by Dr. Peter d'Adamo.

It turns out that the protein in pork is incompatible with the human body, regardless of your blood type.

Then of course we have religious texts and beliefs that tell us not to eat pork because it is unclean. I guess the ancient ones might have actually known something important.

It's a shame he had to lose his life, but it is a reminder for all, that not all food is good for you.

I've read that fresh pork is indeed as you describe, but traditionally prepared pork, using vinegar (or similar acids) or curing the meat, changes the composition and doesn't cause the same issues. In my own experimentation since going carnivore, I'm okay with bacon and ham (though I avoid the latter because of the salt), but fresh pork makes a noticeable impact on how I feel for a couple hours afterward.

BannerCap I don't have that problem. Pork is the best meat for me (and the tastiest one, I can't stand mutton or beef, while poultry contains much antibiotics in my country). I remember a study which found that cured pork doesn't produce agglutination of blood cells which is sometimes observed when eating uncured pork.

Also, proper preparation will kill the eggs of worms in most dishes, because they are easily killed by temperature.

I can't stand mutton or beef

I'm willing to bet that you don't have O type blood. Just like the sight of a bloody rare steak is probably unappealing to you. Do you know your blood type?

The blood type dietary lifestyle is about how the proteins in food react during digestion. Depending on your blood type one protein maybe beneficial for you, but be toxic to me.

I learned as a child that foods with vinegar made me sick, upset stomach, major heartburn, so I stopped eating foods with vinegar. Turns out people with O type blood should avoid vinegar according to d'Adamo's work.

I used to suffer from joint pain, just like my mom. Not anymore, all I did was to cut potatoes out of my diet. It was sure hard giving up loaded potato skins, french fries and hash browns, but today I'm pain free.

So it doesn't matter how well you cure or prepare pork to kill off the tapeworms, the protein remains and it is the pork protein that is toxic to all human life.

One of the many things Dr. d'Adamo identified is that depending on which blood type you have, you produce a different set of enzymes. It is these enzymes that breakdown the proteins so they can be absorbed by the intestine.

While I was doing some research on staph infections I came across an article here on SOTT,

The researchers made an interesting find, one that they didn't expect to find. They had been researching staph and discovered that when the subject group ate wheat, there was an increase in staph. Doing additional research they discovered that the wheat protein was not being broken down and was the source of the staph. As they researched this further they discovered that none of the subjects in the study were able to produce the enzyme needed to breakdown the wheat protein.

Curious how the blood type dietary lifestyle is about eating the foods that can be broken down by the naturally occuring enzymes that your blood type is capable of producing. Each of the blood types produce a different set of enzymes. Oh, and wheat, just like pork, is another one of those foods that all humans, regardless of blood type should avoid.

So let's make an assumption about the study group and that all 4 of the blood types are represented in it. If so, then this study does support that it is the enzymes that makes food usable for the human body and if you don't have the enzymes for that particular food, then you will suffer some type of health issue.

Just like I identified that if I ate foods made with vinegar, I would get anything from an upset stomach, acid reflux, to vomiting, depending on how much vinegar I consumed during that meal. And this is not the only food I came to identify as causing problems, cow dairy makes me constipated, other foods give me diarrhea and when I made it to my late 40's I found the blood type dietary lifestyle and found all of the foods that gave me issues were on the avoid list for O type blood. Go figure, maybe Dr. d'Adamo was right and was on to something.

There are certain things in life that that the powers that be (big pharma, the medical complex, government agencies, big food, you name it) don't want you to learn and this is one of them.

You didn't provide links for your claims. You can look it up. Multiple studies funded by different groups. I've actually read the book you're talking about and used to own a copy. In fact, I think everyone in my family owned a copy at some point. But your blood type isn't as simple as the book makes it out to be, and that's only the first problem.

I won't argue against the brain/gut link. I have found foods that make me depressed. I know one's health has more to do with what one eats than pretty much anything else, which is why I went carnivore. But it's far more complicated than blood type (and more complicated than just going carnivore), and the way to figure it out is to start with an elimination diet and work stuff back into your diet slowly, keeping a health and food journal, figuring out how different foods affect you.

Even the gluten issue is a symptom of the larger problem, which is that companies stared using fast-rising yeast, meaning gluten doesn't get broken down in breads the way it used to, making gluten sensitivities far more obvious to those who are sensitive. That's why people who are gluten sensitive can tolerate traditionally made sourdough, but not store bought sourdough. The traditionally made bread takes far longer to rise, destroying more gluten in the process.

Anyway, challenge your truths. Intentionally look for opposing viewpoints. Then look for opposition to the opposing viewpoints. When you've read everything on both sides of the argument, you can start handing out knowledge. Until then it's just unprocessed information.

You're where I was in my health journey about 10 years ago. You're on the correct path, and you've probably verified quite a few things for yourself. We're all so individual, and so many studies are epidemiological and rely on self-reporting, that the only way we can be sure of much is to experiment on ourselves.

Artex I have been researching certain health issues like Multiple Sclerosis and Celiac Disease for well more than a decade now. My wife suffers from both of these. I have more links to articles, studies and what not than I care to shake a stick at.

If you recall in the first section of the book Eat Right 4 Your Type, Dr. d'Adamo discusses secretors and non-secretors, where he is referring to someones ability to secrete enzymes or not. In the article I linked above, they weren't looking for enzymes, they were looking for staph and accidentally discovered the enzyme connection. So, if Dr. d'Adamo is correct in than enzymes are a key in our bodies ability to digest food, then his book must also be true to a greater extent than not.

Now I also integrate other dietary strategies, such as keto, for an O type this is easy we naturally crave red meat and for me the bloodier the better. But that intermittent fasting works wonders as well.

Now back to pork, I still find it quite curious that 2 major religious books both tell us that pork is bad or unclean, sure we know about tapeworms and how the gentleman who died as a result of eating contaminated pork, but I have to wonder, did our ancestors know something more. How would you try to convey this message, so that it could still be heard thousands of years later?

As for me, I am living proof that the blood type dietary lifestyle works, when I left the corporate world I was 205 lbs and growing with my doctor telling me that is just the way it is as you age, today at 60+ yrs of age & 150 lbs, the same weight I was at my high school graduation, so I'm calling BS on my doctor's opinion. They also had all kinds of poo poo to say about the blood type dietary lifestyle and put me on statins, that would have killed me if I didn't stop taking the drug. Lost some of my motor control of the left side of my body, lifting my arm, holding my briefcase, walking long distances. One of those "rare side effects". Fortunately I regained my motor control once I was off the drug, but the one thing I will say, is you better read that fine print on those big pharma drugs, it just might save your life. Of course better yet don't start taking their drugs in the first place.

The assertion that food is to be determined for a person according to his blood type is not only wrong but ridiculous, because each person is basically an omnivore, who can actually utilize all healthy and non-toxic foods.

Moreover, all health-sustaining food is equally valuable and suitable for every blood type; consequently, with regard to food, there is no difference for certain blood types.

Nevertheless, it is to be noted that each person, regardless of his blood type, is different in regards to the usability of and compatibility with food.
