It is set in Botswana, Africa, the book series was made into a BBC series, one of the episodes, mirrors this article, with distinct similarities. As a Nol1 female detective in Botswana the main character Precious Makutsu is is given the task of discovering the whereabouts of a missing husband, he was involved in a religious organization, received a baptism in a river and never surfaced, the lady detective discovered he was eaten by a crocodile.
It seems to me that in reality, life mirrors fiction, I believe some episodes can be found on Ytube, they are wonderful. it shows a part of Africa, the country, the wildlife, the peoples, and in reality we all have the same hopes, tragedies and desires for our lives and family, regardless of where we live.
In the Pilot episode, Her father was her main inspiration, he taught her to use her eyes, use her ears, and use her memory. After reading and listening to the horrors in the world today, I find it a little balm for the soul.
Interestingly, this series was very popular, there was only one series made because the director Anthony Minghella died of terminal cancer before he could produce a second series
