"Mr. President, the GLADIO system has operated for four decades under various names. It has operated clandestinely, and we are entitled to attribute to it all the destabilization, all the provocation and all the terrorism that have occurred in our countries over these four decades, and to say that, actively or passively, it must have had an involvement. It was set up by the CIA and NATO which, while purporting to defend democracy, were actually undermining it and using it for their own nefarious purposes."
~ Greek MEP at a European Parliament debate about 'Operation GLADIO', 22 November 1990

Ain't this how our 'current' involvement in the Middle East began? *
Different day; Same Ol' Sh*t.
PTB again reveals lack of creative thinking. See Op Northwoods vs. 9/11, et al, ad inf. ad naus.

*And even our 'creation of the situation' in Kuwait - (we told Saddam, go ahead with it, what do we care?) - was itself was a copy of Truman's saying something like the US did not care about
anything North of the twenty third parallel? or, on the Asian mainland, or outside Japan, or such - I forget, as being outside US zone of interest, which, in effect said, we don't care if N.K. invades S.K., when we wanted them to. Why? Well, this also applies to ith Bay of Pigs and Vietnam,** to sell off/use up left over WWII Ordnance and Munitions. E.g., We used more napalm in Vietnam in three years than in Vietnam in fourteen? years. Of course, terrain made it more useful there than in Vietnam, but that then brings in Agent Orange, etc.
**Finally, there, (Vietnam), such was likely not greater than 50% of our 'reasons' but was a (the #1?) plurality factor. Id.
