Chief negotiator of the Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC) at the intra-Syria talks announced a decision to leave his post, local media reported Sunday.

Mohammed Alloush, who is also a member of the Jaysh al-Islam group, made a decision to resign because intra-Syria talks in the Swiss city of Geneva were not successful, Jordanian el-Dorar al-Shamia news website reported, citing Alloush's statement.

A Syrian government delegation, as well as three opposition groups โ€” the Riyadh-formed HNC, the Moscow-Cairo and the Hmeimim groups have been taking part in the UN-mediated Geneva talks.

The latest round of intra-Syrian talks took place in Geneva on April 13-27. The HNC walked out of the negotiations, citing the continuous fighting in Syria and the lack of progress on humanitarian issues.
