The US government should not apologize for the two American boats that entered territorial waters of Iran on Tuesday due to mechanical issues, US Vice President Joe Biden said.

"When you have a problem with the boat, [do] you apologize the boat had a problem? No," Biden said in an interview with CBS News on Wednesday. "And there was no looking for any apology. This was just standard nautical practice."

On Tuesday, the Pentagon announced that Iran has seized two boats in the Persian Gulf with ten US sailors aboard. The officials noted, however, that the navy personnel were safe and would be able to continue their trip to Bahrain.

A source in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps told Sputnik on Wednesday that US vessels entered Iranian territorial waters due to a technical fault.

Earlier in the day, US Secretary of State John Kerry thanked the Iranian government for cooperation in resolving the incident.
