In 1979, the American embassy in Iran was invaded by Iranian revolutionaries and several Americans are taken hostage.
However, six manage to escape to the official residence of the Canadian Ambassador and the CIA is eventually ordered to get them out of the country.
With few options, exfiltration expert Tony Mendez devises a daring plan: to create a phony Canadian film project looking to shoot in Iran and smuggle the Americans out as its production crew.
With the help of some trusted Hollywood contacts, Mendez creates the ruse and proceeds to Iran as its associate producer.
However, time is running out with the Iranian security forces closing in on the truth while both his charges and the White House have grave doubts about the operation themselves.

The Shah was an American puppet responsible for many atrocities against his own people. One could argue that all members involved in this movie are tools of propaganda for the CIA.
This appears to me a form of the victors rewriting history.
Both are in play here. The C.I.A. has reinvented the Argo story to give itself a much needed shot in the arm in the court of (mostly American) public opinion. Since Obama is very likely C.I.A. himself, is it any surprise that Michelle Obama presented last night's Best Picture award -- live from Washington and the White House?
Not everyone is buying the BS, however. Canadians are notably upset over the retelling of their participation in the story, and you can read about it here: [Link]
It's also interesting to note the George Clooney is a Producer of this movie. Clooney is also a recent addition to the CFR. He joins other Hollywood notables like Charlie Rose, Michael Douglas, Warren Beatty and Angelina Jolie. You have to wonder at the Hollywood connections -- better to have them "in the club"? Makes manipulation so much easier, don't you think?

I guess there had to be some people who 'had problems' with this film - otherwise it's real motive would have become glaringly apparent (it's propaganda about the murder of someone who wasn't Osama Bin Laden).

has a long history of intervening into Hollywood's movie production business.
