Jerusalem - It's the latest prescription for extreme ultra-Orthodox Jewish men who shun contact with the opposite sex: Glasses that blur their vision, so they don't have to see women they consider to be immodestly dressed.
In an effort to maintain their strictly devout lifestyle, the ultra-Orthodox have separated the sexes on buses, sidewalks and other public spaces in their neighbourhoods. Their interpretation of Jewish law forbids contact between men and women who are not married.
Walls in their neighbourhoods feature signs exhorting women to wear closed-necked, long-sleeved blouses and long skirts. Extremists have accosted women they consider to have flouted the code.
Now they're trying to keep them out of clear sight altogether.
The ultra-Orthodox community's unofficial "modesty patrols" are selling glasses with special blur-inducing stickers on their lenses. The glasses provide clear vision for up to a few meters so as not to impede movement, but anything beyond that gets blurry - including women. It's not known how many have been sold.
For men forced to venture outside their insular communities, hoods and shields that block peripheral vision are also being offered.
The glasses are going for the "modest" price of $6.

Actually this is quite serious and should be more widely talked about. John Hagee and Pat Robertson spend nearly half of each work day selling israeli PR to gullible people in the west. The evangelical cash flow is probably half israel's income. People here think israelis are just like us in america, just trying to live their lives while the evil arabs harass and kill them. They are not like us, in fact they are more like arabs than us and we should stay the fuck out of their political bs fantasy world.

I remember buying a pair of glasses as a kid that promised the wearer could see through women's clothing. Well, they didn't do much except blur my vision, and perhaps such self-induced blindness is what they seek? Seek and ye shall find. It seems they have, only if they want a permanent solution, they would blind themselves permanently. Anything less would seem rather hypocritical if not liberal, and what would their god say about such weakness?
Though they do seem to be finding somewhat creative ways to hide themselves, though they do seem to be falling into the usual Islamic practice in the Middle East. Is this karmic then? Covering up in a burqa must be next. Is this nature's way of turning them into women? Funny that is. Mother Nature sure has a sense of humor when playing with her children.
