And I would contend that they can work for anybody, provided you're properly educated about nutrition and able to adapt to any deficiencies you might find yourself facing. It can sometimes be more expensive and less convenient, but it's always possible. Some people have more trouble adapting than others. I know quite a few people that couldn't stick with it long enough to find a balance, or didn't want it enough to make the effort required. I knew some people who visited doctors who told them that they had to stop, because the doctors are just as brainwashed about the necessity of meat as the rest of us.
It can seem at first to be very difficult to maintain a balanced vegan diet, and a lot of people give up at the first sign of trouble, or because they can't find an easy way to get enough of nutrient X in their new diet to meet their personal needs, but this is mostly because of generations of animal product addiction and the lack of easily obtainable alternatives. We take for granted being raised with nutritional common sense passed down through families, and it's a very big step to suddenly cut out half of our sources of food and try to relearn everything from scratch.
There are no nutrients that are necessary to human health that require eating animals to access. Everybody is different, indeed, especially in matters of health and nutrition, but nobody "needs" animal products. Period. If there's something that only animal products give you enough of, that sounds to me more like an addiction, an imbalance, or a condition, and not a healthy state of being. And the benefits of a vegan diet, as this video expresses, can be life changing indeed.
I used to get chest pains and dizziness when I pushed myself and did physical activity. Playing soccer or even just getting really excited would leave my heart pounding painfully. And I was about 25. I've been vegan for over 3 years and whenever I do something active now, the worst I get is out of breath or tired. I'm no superman, but my body isn't fighting just to work properly. These are just single subjective stories, but there are millions of us finding the same thing.
