US: Storms Will Drop Heavy Rains for 2 Days in West Michigan

A flood watch has been issued for much of West Michigan, with several rounds of heavy rain likely today and Thursday.

Two to four inches are possible, along with the threat of severe storms, and a tornado watch is issued through 7 p.m. today for these counties: Berrien, Branch, Cass and St. Joseph.

"A warm front moving could bring some nastier stuff later this afternoon. Heavy rain is a probability, not a possibility," said Mike Kalembkiewicz of the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids.

US: Little Missouri River reaches record high Tuesday, hydrologist calls it 500-year event

The stream flow of the Little Missouri River at Camp Crook reached a record high when the water level peaked, according to real-time U.S. Geological Survey stream-gage data.

The water level peaked at 19.42 feet on Tuesday, about seven feet above the National Weather Service designated flood stage of 12 feet.

"This event only had a 0.2 percent chance of occurring, making it a 500-year event," said Joyce Williamson, a USGS hydrologist. "This doesn't mean that the next comparable flood will be in 500 years, just that there is a 0.2 percent chance of this level of flooding to occur. Multiple 500-year events can occur in a short time frame and then not again for a very long time."

As the winds died down and the heavy rains slowed to a sprinkle, residents here started venturing out from their homes, curious what they might see.

What they found, surprisingly, was little damage, but an abundance of water in the streets along with trash cans.

"Lot of rain," said Lynn Enslinger, who retrieved a trash cart from the middle of the street. "We avoided the big disaster. We were lucky."

Fire trucks canvassed the city, driving up and down every street, checking for damage.

Rainfall amounts varied, but Rush County Emergency Management Director Jim Fisher suspected they were in the 4- to 5-inch range, all of it falling within an hour's time.

US: Heavy rains bring flooding to parts of Northeast Ohio Tuesday

A slow moving line of storms brought heavy rains to parts of Portage, Stark, Summit and Wayne Counties Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service says that several areas have received over an inch of rain according to doppler radar estimates of 1.75" north of Massillon in Stark County and up to 1.25" north of Wooster in Wayne County.

In Portage County, street flooding was reported in Atwater shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday evening.

A flood warning was issued earlier in the evening for Portage, Stark, Summit and Mahoning counties.

Montana, US: Heavy rain in Billings covers streets, causes rockfall at Rims

Heavy rain in Billings on Tuesday night covered streets around town with deep water and caused large boulders to fall from the Rimrocks onto Zimmerman Trail.

Zimmerman Trail is closed and water is pouring off the Rims in waterfalls.

Yellowstone County Sheriff's deputies and Montana Highway Patrol troopers closed down the intersection at First Avenue North and Main Street after the street flooded with more than a foot of water, which spilled up over the sidewalks.

Highway 87 North at Exposition Drive is closed.

All over the area east of downtown, cars stalled in the deep water, especially on Main and Fourth and Sixth avenues north, where manhole covers blew off because of the deluge. Fourth Avenue North is closed at North 24th Street.

The Sixth Street Underpass east of downtown has also flooded and should be avoided. At least one car has stalled there.

On the North Side, neighbors William Barber and Aaron Snyder nervously watched the the BBWA Canal, which runs behind their homes on the 1600 block of Vuecrest Drive.

US: Heavy Rains Cause Major Flooding Across Northeast Oklahoma

Heavy rains have caused major flooding in many locations across Northeast Oklahoma.

Nearly ten inches of rain have fallen near Vinita. That's where SkyNews6 found three men rescuing a woman in a stranded vehicle. The video shows one man breaking a window to help get the woman out. The men then helped her wade through the water to safety.

News On 6 reporter Ashli Sims captured video of flooding along I-44 southwest of Miami. Flooding forced Miami Public Schools to cancel classes Tuesday.

Rising waters also caused problems in Muskogee. The Muskogee Police Department told News On 6 officers performed several vehicle rescues Monday evening.

Cherokee County Emergency Management said it had also received reports of significant flooding. Officials there said at least three water rescues were performed Monday, but no one was injured. Power lines and trees are down across Cherokee County.

US: Flooding grows near Brownville; rain begins in west

Umbrellas were the order of the day for Nebraskans from west to east Tuesday, with heavy rain predicted across much of the state. Some storms could also turn severe, with large hail possible and some isolated tornadoes in far southeast Nebraska, the National Weather Service said.

Already Tuesday morning, 1.25 inches of rain had fallen in Red Cloud near the Kansas border. And overnight rains added as much as 2 inches of rain to already soggy soil in southwest and west-central Nebraska.

Rain totals included: Imperial, 2.04 inches; Wauneta, 1.94; Wellfleet, 1.17; Hayes Center, 1.09; Curtis, 0.97; Moorefield, 0.92; Swan Lake, 0.75; Oshkosh, 0.73; North Platte, 0.71.

The North Platte area is under a flood warning and flash flood watch, bracing for 2-4 more inches of rain. The North Platte River is already at a record level, with overflows expected to increase at least through Friday.

US: National Weather Service warns more rain could bring floods to western Montana

Officials are keeping a close eye on both the rivers and the sky this week, as they track several weather systems predicted to bring rain and more flood worries to western Montana.

The National Weather Service issued flood watches for Missoula and Ravalli counties Monday afternoon in anticipation of overnight rainshowers.

Severe flooding in eastern Montana caused road closures and evacuations as the week began, prompting Gov. Brian Schweitzer to issue a statewide flood emergency declaration. Missoula, Ravalli, Sanders, Lincoln, Glacier and Lake counties were all included in the declaration.

The Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Clark Fork River above Missoula as well. The river rose to 9.3 feet Monday and is forecast to reach its 10-foot flood stage by Tuesday morning.

"The area that looks like it will go to flood probably quicker than anything is the Clark Fork River in Missoula. How fast and how much it rises will depend on how much precipitation falls. This forecast could change as we go into the week," said Ray Nickless, hydrologist for the Weather Service.

Billings - More rain is on tap this week for Montana communities besieged with flooding that has isolated a town near the Wyoming border, claimed at least one life and left another person missing, state and local authorities said Monday.

Gov. Brian Schweitzer declared a statewide emergency as broad areas of southeastern Montana remained underwater.

Rural communities in southeastern Montana, including the Crow Reservation, were hardest hit, authorities said.

In Carbon County, 84-year-old Betty Kebschull was killed after she was caught in rising waters from an unnamed creek.

Kebschull was swept a short distance downstream from her house near Boyd, where authorities found her body Saturday, Deputy Coroner Ben Mahoney said. A Monday autopsy confirmed she drowned.

In Yellowstone County, authorities were searching for a man reported missing after a backhoe he was operating tipped into Pryor Creek.

© Independent/Barrett StinsonHeavy rain Friday afternoon caused both the Eddy Street and Sycamore Street underpasses to be closed. At least two cars stalled out in the Sycamore Street underpass, where this driver waits to be pulled out.
Heavy rain fell that afternoon and evening in Grand Island, flooding streets and closing the Eddy Street and Sycamore Street underpasses temporarily because of high water, which stranded several motorists. High water on streets throughout Grand Island made driving difficult and hazardous.

Flooding was also reported in Alda, Cushing, Dannegrog, Elba, Greely, Spalding, St. Libory, St. Paul and Wolbach.

At 5 p.m., the National Weather Service in Hastings reported that Grand Island had a record rainfall for Friday of 1.81 inches, with more rainfall expected through the evening. That broke the previous record of 1.32 inches set in 1957.

The heavy rain pushed Grand Island's precipitation to 4.81 inches for the month as of 5 p.m., but the heavy rain continued into the evening adding to that amount.
