3 pit bulls euthanized after Houston woman dies following attack

KPRC 2 has learned the three dogs that attacked and killed a Houston woman on Sunday night were Staffordshire Bull Terriers or pit bulls, according to BARC Houston.

Houston Police Department said the 65-year-old woman identified as Harriet Phillips was found dead at a home in Northeast Houston in the 8000 block of Wayside Village Way.

The dogs had broken through a shared fence in the back yard of the residence, according to police.

Police said the owner of the dogs did not witness the attack but saw his neighbor covered in blood in the back porch and called 911.

According to animal control, the three dogs have been euthanized.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The medical examiner's officer has ruled Phillips' death as an accident with the primary cause as multiple blunt and sharp force injuries.

A caracal was caught Tuesday night, following reports that it was suspected of having bitten IDF soldiers near Mount Harif in the Negev desert.

An IDF base is situated on the mountain, which is located along the border between Israel and Egypt.

The animal was caught by a Nature and Parks Authority supervisor and brought to a hospital for wild animals, where it will undergo a comprehensive medical examination.

According to the Authority, the possibility that the caracal was used to human proximity due to the fact that it was found near a military base. Such a familiarity would affect the animal's behavior and cause it to come too close to the soldiers.

"The Nature and Parks Authority would like to remind the public that they should not approach or feed wild animals, since this can cause a change in their behavior that is dangerous to both the animals and human beings," a statement read.

The 68-year-old man was attacked by stray dogs and did not survive the severity of his injuries, ending up dying.

Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Ram Kumar Lamichhane informed that 40 sheep were killed in a lightning strike at the sheep shed of Tek Bahadur Meghi, a resident of Makalu-3, Simma, on Friday evening.

A 62-year-old Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) ranger, Josphat Mandishara, tragically lost his life after being trampled by an elephant in the Gache Gache area of Kariba.

The incident occurred on Thursday night during a routine extended patrol.

Mandishara was accompanied by two fellow ZimParks rangers and a Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) detail when he returned to the harbor to retrieve their boat. But he encountered a charging elephant that emerged unexpectedly and fatally injured him.

An elderly woman was killed after being attacked by her pet dog - a German Shepherd - at Rawatpur near here, police said on Wednesday.

The dog fatally attacked 90-year-old Mohini Trivedi last Friday. The matter came to light on Wednesday after its owner, Dheer Prashant Trivedi, a mechanical engineer by profession, submitted a request to the veterinary department of Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC), seeking a nod to hand over the dog to the family.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Arti Singh, confirmed that Mohini Trivedi was attacked by the German Shepherd at her home in Rawatpur.

"We have not received any written complaint on this matter till now," she said.

However, the DCP has asked her subordinates to probe the matter at their end and submit a fact-finding report to her at the earliest.

A Bibb County infant died after she was attacked by at least one dog inside an Alabaster home.

Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans on Tuesday identified the baby as Ember Southard. She was 6 months old.

Ember was with her grandmother at a relative's home on 10th Street S.W. when the grandmother found the infant unresponsive on the floor.

There were obvious signs of injury to the child, authorities said.
