US: Some baffled after UFO sighting claims in Lafayette, Colorado

Aliens are coming to a city near you.

Or, at least they're surveying Boulder County as a future landing zone, according to several Lafayette residents.

Three red lights in a triangle were spotted hovering in the sky by several Lafayette residents Monday around 8:30 p.m. The sky was clear, but witnesses could not see anything connecting the lights.

Phantom Airships Revisited? Oslo, Norway: Mysterious Flight Closed Airport

Image
© Espen Solli/Oslo Lufthavn ASAn otherwise sunny day, free of weather problems at Oslo's main airport, ended up with massive disruption and baffled officials.
The skies were blue and sunny, the runways clear of snow and ice, and traffic should have flowed routinely through Oslo's main airport at Gardermoen (OSL) on Thursday after a rough winter. Instead, the airport was forced to close on a busy spring afternoon, because of a mysterious aircraft that entered its air space and stayed there.

Comment: Is Norway experiencing its share of "thinning of the veil"? Won't be the first time, actually.

Consider the following from John A. Keel's Operation Trojan Horse:
Conventional prop-driven airplanes with discernible wings and tails are an integral part of the UFO mystery. Although international law requires all aircraft to bear identifying marking and license numbers on their wings, tails, and fuselages, none of these mystery airplanes bother to comply...

A Swedish researcher, Mr. Ake Franzen, has recently been going through the Stockholm newspapers of the 1930's, piecing together the many fragments of the forgotten Scandinavian flap of 1932-38. He has uncovered more than ninety detailed reports thus far and has tediously translated them into English for us. They form a startling picture.

Beginning in 1932, large unmarked airplanes began to appear over northern Sweden, Norway, and Finland. They were always described as gray. They frequently appeared during raging blizzards and circled towns, railroads, forts, and ships at sea...

On April $0, 1934, Major General Reutersward, commanding general of upper Norrland, Sweden, issued the following statement to the press:
Comparison of these reports shows that there can be no doubt about illegal air traffic over our secret military areas There are many reports from reliable people which describe close observations of the enigmatic fliers. And in every case the same remark has been noted: No insignias or identifying marks were visible on the machine....It is impossible to explain away the whole thing as imagination. The question is: Who are they? And why have they been invading our air territory?
When all of the well-described ghost-flier sightings of 1934 are laid out on a map, their route becomes clear. They seemed to have followed a great arc week after week, circling southward into northern Norway, sweeping across Sweden, and heading north again over Finland. If they were following such an arc, the upper part of the circle had to lie somewhere in the Arctic Ocean, perhaps in the vicinity of the very thinly populated island of Spitsbergen. An alternate route could have brought them from northern Greenland. There have been many interesting sighting in Greenland...

The hundreds of UFO flights seemingly emanating from the Arctic regions and following routes south have helped reinforce the popular theory that flying saucers are coining from a hole in the North Pole. The Aerial Phenomena Research Organization has advanced the theory that the objects enter the earth's polar regions from space in order to avoid the intense radiation belts which are concentrated in space above the temperate zones.
Also, take a look at another recent curious case of "mysterious aircraft".

US: New Bigfoot Video: Blurriest One Yet?

Just as the news that the vampire monster el chupacabra has finally been all but debunked, his bigger buddy Bigfoot has decided to make an appearance.

A Charlotte, N.C.-based man named Thomas Byers claims that he and a companion videotaped a Bigfoot a few nights ago. According to Byers, "On the evening of Tuesday, March 22, 2011 while driving down Golden Valley Church Road I and a friend Carolyn Wright observed the Big-Foot Knobby or one similar to it cross the road in front of the truck we were in and run into the woods. I jumped from the truck and took this video of it as it crossed the road in front of us. At one point in the video it made a snarling growling sound and looked back at me."

Not only could the Bigfoot (or guy in dark clothing, or whatever it is) use some reflective clothing so it doesn't get hit by a car in the near-darkness, but Byers says it also needed deodorant: "The smell of it was horrid. It smelled like a cross between road kill and a skunk."

As the video's authenticity is debated on the Interwebs, there are a few curious things to note about the video, including that the truck Byers and his friend claimed to be in when they saw the Bigfoot does not appear.

Denmark: Mystery Man's Silence Puzzles Police

Danish Mystery Man
© Police PhotoPolice say the man seems interested in revealing his identity, but cannot.

Last month, a man appeared in the Amager district as if out of nowhere with a minor head injury and very little else. He had no money, no identification and the only words he uttered were a whispered "missing person".

After calls from worried passers-by, the man was picked up by an ambulance and taken to hospital for scans and a thorough psychological assessment. However, investigators are no wiser as to the man's identity. The only sign of any affiliation is an unfinished tattoo on his back of the FC Copenhagen logo.

"He speaks a little bit, using both Danish and English words, but nothing that we can string together to form any meaning," deputy assistant commissioner Tommy Keil of Amager Police told Jyllands-Posten newspaper.

Police have visited pubs and tattoo parlours in the Langebro area in Amager where the man was found on February 24, hoping that someone knew the man, but with no luck.

Officials in a Siberian region on Wednesday announced plans to open a scientific institute for researchers to study yetis, despite opposition from academics.

"Organising an institute or a scientific centre would be a logical continuation of research into the yeti," the administration of the Russian coal-mining region of Kemerovo in western Siberia said.

The region will announce its final decision after hosting an international conference on yetis later this year, the statement said, citing the regional government's education and science department.

"The town of Tashtagol will host an international conference with leading experts into hominids. Based on its results, we will take a decision on opening a scientific research institute to study the yeti."

Yetis, or Abominable Snowmen, are hairy ape-like creatures of popular myth, that are generally held to inhabit the Himalayas.

Enigmas in Empty Places: Haunted Deserts

One does not immediately associate the concept of deserts with Brazil - our mental images of the South American giant immediately take us to the jungle greenery of the Amazon or to the bright pleasures of Rio de Janeiro. However, the South American superpower extensive coastal deserts - complete with sand dunes - in the northern region of Maranhao, once known to be the wealthiest part of this Portuguese possession (so wealthy, in fact, that a Portuguese monarch was willing to abdicate his crown as long he was able to keep control over Maranhao). Located between the Mangueira and Parnaíba deserts, the vast sand dunes are contained within the Lencois Maranhenses National Park and aerial photography shows the sand encroaching on the surrounding vegetation, like a stain of white ink on a green tablecloth. This is not surprising, as the Maranhao dunes stand a staggering thirty meters tall and are a source of humidity that attracts all manner of wildlife to it.

The sand dunes of Maranhao are also the home of highly unusual paranormal phenomena.

"Red" rocker Sammy Hagar says abducted by aliens

No doubt Sammy Hagar, a former lead singer for Van Halen, has enjoyed a lot of far out experiences in life, but on Monday, the rocker told perhaps his farthest out tale to MTV. He was abducted by aliens.

Or, at least, his brain was.

In an interview for his new book, Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock at mtvhive.com, Hagar lets go of what even he admits might make him "sound like a crazy person" to some readers.

He and the reporter are talking about dreams he claims to have had about UFOs, and when asked whether he believed he had been abducted, Hagar answers: "I think I have."

The reporter seemed surprised. "What? Really? I was kidding. You seriously believe that?" he asks.

Hagar laughs and goes on to explain that a passage in the book described as a dream in which he is contacted by aliens from outer space in California was, in fact, reality.

The tale describes how the beings tapped into his mind through a wireless connection.

"It was real," Hagar told the reporter, according to the story on MTV's Hive website. "They were plugged into me. It was a download situation ... Or, they uploaded something from my brain, like an experiment."
