Heavy rains spawned by thunderstorms brought about by easterlies triggered flash floods that killed two residents in President Roxas town, Cotabato province, on Tuesday night, a local official said on Wednesday.
President Roxas Vice Mayor Jaime Mahimpit said the bodies of Luzviminda Dubria, 69, and Ging Ging Fortunado, 44, a person with disability, were found in separate areas in the rice fields of Sitio Upper Ipuan in Barangay Poblacion, at least a kilometer away from the area where they were last seen.
Letecia Dubria, a relative of one of the victims, said a landslide hit Sitio Ipuan on Tuesday night, followed by the flash flood that hit the victims' houses. "We were aware that they were [swept] away by flood waters but we didn't know what to do. It was nighttime and the current was very strong, so we never ventured out," Dubria told the Inquirer.

Ten persons have been killed and over 200 houses destroyed in Katsina State capital and Bindawa Local Government Area of the state, as heavy rain overran buildings and roads in the neighbourhood causing havoc.
According to residents of the affected areas in the Katsina metropolis, the heavy rain started at 4p.m., on Tuesday till late night of the same day.
Ungwan Sabuwa, along the Kofar Kaura axis, is said to be the worst hit by the downpour in the Katsina metropolis.
When Vanguard visited the neighbourhood, yesterday, residents were seen making efforts to evacuate their belongings from buildings submerged by the flood.
Electricity has been cut in some buildings as a precaution, with state news agency Montsame reporting that a number of roads in the capital have been closed.
Floods inundated parts of the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator after torrential rain damaged a dam at the Selbe River on Wednesday.
At least 27 residential buildings and hundreds of vehicles were flooded inBayanzurkh district, the country's National Emergency Management Agency said in a statement.
Five other districts were also impacted as a result, reports Xinhua news agency citing the statement as saying.

The historic hailstorm in Valencia yesterday, with ice stones the size of nuts, had a strong impact on a large area of crops in numerous areas of the provinces of Valencia and Castellon. According to an initial estimate made by the Valencian Association of Farmers (AVA-ASAJA), "the hailstorm affected more than 20,000 hectares of agricultural land. It caused variable damage to the crops, affecting 100% of the production in some fields. The storm affected the Coastal, l'Horta, and Alto Palancia regions the most. The crops that suffered the most losses were citrus, kaki, almond, and olive crops."
"In the Coast region, the storm caused serious damage in hundreds of farms in Montesa and Vallada. There are oranges, mandarins, and kaki fruits that were struck six to seven times by the hailstorm. In the most severe cases, producers lost the entirety of their crop and the hail even caused damage to the plants that could weaken them and reduce next year's productivity. There are also damages in crops in nearby areas, such as Aielo de Malferit, in the Vall d'Albaida."
A 6-year-old North Port boy died on Wednesday following severe injuries from a dog bite.
The North Port Police Department responded to the 2700 block of Badger Lane after the boy was bit around 10:30 a.m. by a 3-year-old Pitbull mix. Officials said the child passed away from extensive traumatic injuries in the upper torso region.
"Our hearts are broken for this young child and his family," said North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison. "As a father and pet owner, I know this is one of the worst tragedies you can imagine."
A dead humpback whale washed up on the beach near Nieuw-Haamstede in the province of Zeeland. The animal measures approximately eight to ten meters in length and has likely been dead for some time, according to Foundation SOS Dolfijn.
The whale was beached on Monday afternoon. SOS Dolfijn stated that a report of a dead whale floating approximately 8 miles off the Dutch coast had already been received on Sunday morning. Due to the strong northwest wind, the animal has now washed ashore.
Fifteen people were killed after being struck by lightning in eight districts of Bihar in the last 24 hours, officials said on Wednesday.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed condolences over the death of 15 people due to lightning and announced an ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh to each of the deceased's family members.
Kumar also appealed to the people of the state to remain alert and stay indoors.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) on Wednesday, Rohtas district reported five deaths followed by two each in Katihar, Gaya and Jehanabad. Besides, Khagarai, Kaimur, Buxar and Bhagalpur recorded one death each.
The CM also urged people to follow advisories issued by the Disaster Management Department. Nine people were killed due to lightning in seven districts in the state on Tuesday.
