Eight people, including at least two children, were killed last week across the northern mountainous provinces of Yen Bai, Lai Chau, Son La and Thai Nguyen, the Hanoi-based disaster control authority said in an online report.

The people of Tonga know how to adapt to the extremes of the natural environment.

Cyclones, volcanic eruptions and the impacts of climate change are elements they've learnt to live with. But the cold weather? That's a different matter.
"Right now we're experiencing much colder temperatures than normal," Rita Prema, a shop owner in the capital Nuku'alofa told the ABC.

"We've got customers coming in for coffee mugs, vacuum flasks, teapots and insulated bottles to keep their hot beverages warmer through these colder nights."
In a place synonymous with tropical heat, coconuts, and warm waters — complaining about the cold might seem like a stretch.

Bad weather continues to hit Italy with force and a rather atypical phenomenon is taking place in the North in these hours.

The abrupt drop in temperatures, aided by the abundant rainfall, brought snow to the Dolomites.

This morning, Saturday 5 August, the completely whitewashed peak of the Civetta is clearly visible from the Val di Zoldo. An intense snowfall that has led many to think: "Are we on August 5th or December 5th?".

Juneau's emergency operations center has recommended that people who live on Marion Drive evacuate Saturday night amid an unprecedented glacial outburst flood.

A news release from the city said that one building had been lost and others are in danger — and that rapid erosion along Marion Drive could cause the riverbank to collapse.

Drone footage shared on social media showed one building that had collapsed into the river and others that appeared to have been undercut by the eroding bank.
