SOTT Focus: SOTT Earth Changes Summary - July 2025: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

ecs0725
A massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on July 29, marking one of the most powerful seismic events recorded globally since 2011.

The quake triggered widespread aftershocks, including a 6.0 magnitude tremor in the Pacific Ocean, and generated tsunami waves up to 19 feet high, prompting warnings from Japan to Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast.

The earthquake also caused significant geological shifts, with the southern part of the peninsula moving southeastward — a displacement comparable, though more modest, to that seen in Japan's 2011 quake.

Local officials reported no fatalities, only a few injuries, and limited damage to infrastructure, primarily due to the region's earthquake-resistant buildings and low population density.

The Kamchatka earthquake had profound volcanic repercussions, activating seven volcanoes simultaneously for the first time in nearly 300 years, according to the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Farmer's Almanac unveils long-range forecast: "Widespread wintry weather" for U.S.

weather map projection
The Farmer's Almanac has issued its long-range forecast for the upcoming Western Hemispheric winter, calling for cold and snowy conditions across large swaths of the Lower 48. While the two-century-old publication touts an 80% accuracy rate, independent analysis places that figure around 55%.

The forecast, which dates back to 1818 and accounts for environmental fluctuations on Earth, solar activity (sunspots), the motion of the Moon, and other proprietary factors, calls for "widespread wintry weather" in the 2025-26 winter season.

Here's a breakdown of the forecast:
Cold Zones:
  • Coldest: Northern Plains to New England, plus Northwest (Idaho, Washington).
  • Major cold snaps expected mid-January and mid-February.
Snow Outlook:
  • New England: Frequent snowstorms.
  • Atlantic Coast: Significant rain, occasional snow mix.
  • Mid-Atlantic Mountains: Decent snow events.
  • Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, North Central: Classic snow-heavy winter.
  • Pacific Northwest Mountains: Impressive snow totals.
Regional Highlights:
  • Southeast: Average temps, wet;
  • Appalachians see occasional snow.
  • Texas/Southern Plains: Wetter than average, periodic cold snaps, limited snow but freezing rain possible.
  • Southwest: Wet winter, near-average temps.
If the Farmer's Almanac's long-range forecast is even partially accurate, it could spell serious trouble for Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states already plagued with strained power grids, with Maryland at the epicenter of the crisis.

Lightning kills 2 bison at Stuhr Museum in Grand Island, Nebraska

Supporters of Stuhr Museum and staff members are sad after a lightning strike late last month caused the death of two of the museum's bison.

Stuhr believes the animals fell victim to a lightning storm that passed through July 30 or 31.

"The lightning actually knocked out our server in the Stuhr Building, so there must have been multiple strikes,' said Chris Hochstetler, the museum's executive director.

A couple of days later, staff members discovered that one of the bison had died. The day after that, the other one passed away.

A veterinarian who treated the animal said a bison struck directly by lightning usually dies instantly. It's also very common that if another bison is within 30 feet, he will die a couple of days later.

A nearby strike scrambles the animal's neurological system and heart. "They will succumb to that within two or three days, which is exactly what happened," Hochstetler said.

Woman mauled to death by pack of dogs in Uttar Pradesh, India

MMMMMMMM
A 30-year-old woman was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district, the police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday night in Arjun Dumri village under Hata police station limits.

The cops received a call around 7 pm that the body of the woman named Madhuri was lying in a paddy field near the village panchayat building and was being attacked by stray dogs.

The police personnel rushed to the spot and chased the dogs away using sticks, and took the body into custody, Hata SHO Ramsahay Chauhan said.

This is the second such attack by stray dogs in the state in 36 hours, amid an ongoing heated debate over the Supreme Court's order to remove stray dogs from the streets of Delhi-NCR within eight weeks and shift them to animal shelters.

On Monday, an eight-year-old boy was attacked by a stray dog when he was playing outside his residence in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district. The boy sustained injuries in the attack.
