Italy's Nova news agency confirmed it let reporter Gabriele Nunziati go for asking a European official about Israel at a press conference.

An Italian journalist who asked a European Commission official why Israel shouldn't pay for the reconstruction of Gaza was let go by his news agency.

Gabriele Nunziati, a Brussels-based reporter who covered the EU for Rome's Nova news agency, told The Intercept he received a notice that he would lose his job barely a month after he became a correspondent.

The move, which was first reported by the Italian news website Fanpage, came after he asked Paula Pinho, the European Commission's chief spokesperson, about Gaza's reconstruction on October 13.

Quiet warning: Sliding sales of cardboard boxes set off economic alarm bells for holiday spending season

Cardboard box sales dropping in the 4th quarter of 2025 does not bode well for the U.S. economy's future
Nearly every physical good in the modern economy is transported or stored in a corrugated cardboard box. That's why box shipments act as a reliable real-time economic barometer, especially very useful now, as the government shutdown enters day 33 and key agencies like the BLS have halted official economic data releases, leaving private high-frequency data sets to fill the void.

The latest box shipment data from Bloomberg, citing a report by the Fibre Box Association, shows some of the weakest volumes in years, reflecting waning consumer sentiment and potentially signaling a subdued holiday shopping season. These shipments were at their lowest levels since the third quarter of 2015.

Bloomberg Intelligence noted that box orders remained flat or below normal in October, while consumer sentiment hit a five-month low and manufacturing activity contracted for an eighth straight month.

USDA uncovers widespread food stamp fraud

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins joined Fox News on Sunday and addressed the American people about the USDA's massive effort to combat fraud in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Rollins said that the Trump administration sent letters to all governors prohibiting illegal aliens from accessing benefits, with a historic request for state data to be audited alongside the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). She said only 29 states cooperated, primarily red and some blue states.

She said her team and DOGE found some of the most shocking fraud ever, resulting in the purging of 700,000 ineligible recipients since the president's inauguration, and arrested 118 individuals.

Comment: Amen.

Disgraced Prince Andrew allegedly once had 40 prostitutes brought to his five-star hotel during a taxpayer-funded trip to Thailand, his biographer has claimed.

Andrew, who was officially stripped of his titles on Thursday and evicted from his royal residence in a humiliating fall from grace, engaged with the bevy of women over a four-day stretch, royal historian and author Andrew Lownie alleged.

"There was a famous trip to Thailand — for the birthday celebrations of the King. Andrew is representing his country and insists on staying in a five-star hotel rather than the embassy, which he always did," Lownie told the Daily Mail's "Deep Dive: The Fall of the House of York" podcast.

"Andrew had 40 prostitutes brought in the space of four days. This was all enabled by diplomats and others."

Lownie said multiple sources, including a member of the Thai royal family, had backed up the allegation.

Nearly 42 million Americans lose their food stamp benefits due to gov't shutdown

Millions of low-income Americans are losing access to food aid as the nation's largest anti-hunger program goes dark for the first time.

Congress failed to reopen the government before funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ran out Saturday. A federal judge, in an eleventh-hour decision, directed the Trump administration to use emergency funds to pay for food aid in November — but even that wasn't enough to prevent the immediate lapse of benefits, which officials say could take weeks to resume.

"I have instructed our lawyers to ask the Court to clarify how we can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible ... even if we get immediate guidance, it will unfortunately be delayed while States get the money out," President Donald Trump wrote on social media Friday evening. "If we are given the appropriate legal direction by the Court, it will BE MY HONOR to provide the funding."

On Saturday, the same judge provided the president with that direction, thanking Trump for his "quick and definitive response" to the court's decision and ordering the White House to either fully support SNAP benefits by tapping multiple sources of funding by Monday, or at least partially fund those benefits by Wednesday.

Australia's most woke council to BAN Sydney households from cooking with gas in a move that will outrage foodies

gas stove
Gas will be banned in Sydney under new planning rules following similar bans in Victoria and the ACT as part of efforts to combat climate change.

The City of Sydney formally endorsed a ban on gas connections at a meeting on Monday, with all new homes and businesses required to be electric only.

Council claims the ban will reduce emissions and improve affordability, but critics say it will increase the risk of blackouts, delay the building sector and make household bills more expensive.

The ban extends a previous prohibition on gas in kitchens as part of new house builds. It will now include outdoor gas appliances and will affect apartments and medium to large commercial buildings, hotels and serviced units.

Industrial buildings and existing properties are exempt. Mixed-use developments can install gas kitchens only if they can be converted to electric at a later date.

Harvard's medical school was rocked by a huge explosion early Saturday morning.

Law enforcement said the blast appeared to be deliberate and that two people were seen fleeing as they arrived.

The explosion took place at about 2.48am in the fourth floor of the Goldenson building on the Longwood campus.

No injuries were reported.

'Upon arrival at the building, the officer observed two unidentified individuals fleeing the building,' the Harvard University Police Department said.

'The officer attempted to stop the individuals before proceeding to the floor where the alarm had been triggered.'

Boston police checked the building for additional explosives and did not find any.

The FBI was at the scene, according to the Harvard Crimson.

Comment: Update:
A device exploded inside the Goldenson Building in Harvard's Longwood medical campus early Saturday morning, according to a message from the Harvard University Police Department to University affiliates.

The Boston Fire Department Arson Unit responded to the incident and determined the explosion to be intentional.

HUPD sent a subsequent email to Harvard affiliates shortly after 5 p.m. asking for assistance identifying two men, who they described as suspects. The images were captured on security footage.

HMS administrators confirmed that the building "has been cleared and remains open," except for the fourth floor, according to an email obtained by The Crimson sent to HMS staff based in Goldenson. The email, sent at roughly 6 p.m., did not name which labs or offices were affected.

HMS employees in the building were also instructed to stay away from campus until Monday unless necessary. "If you had not intended to or do not need to come to campus this weekend, you should not come in," the email read.

HUPD is actively investigating the incident with local, state, and federal authorities. The FBI was on scene Saturday afternoon assisting HUPD, according to FBI spokesperson Kristen M. Setera.

A mayor in Mexico's western state of Michoacan was shot dead in a plaza in front of dozens of people who had gathered for Day of the Dead festivities, authorities said.

Local politicians in Mexico are frequently victims of political and organized crime violence.

The mayor of the Uruapan municipality, Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, was gunned down Saturday night in the town's historic center. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later died, according to state prosecutor Carlos Torres Piña.

A city council member and a bodyguard were also injured in the attack.

The attacker was killed at the scene, Federal Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch told journalists Sunday.

Comment: And last week, another journalist reporting on cartels' crimes was found dead after they tortured and killed him.
