Washington's collective fist-pump on the Trump indictment coverage borders on the indecent

© MSNBC/ScreenshotJust hours before former President Donald Trump was indicted for a fourth time in Georgia on Monday night, his former political opponent, Hillary Clinton, laughed merrily at him on MSNBC
The great novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote that "there is something awe-inspiring in one who has lost all inhibitions." Fitzgerald's observation came back to me in watching the media coverage of the latest Trump indictment. As I myself covered the indictment as a legal analyst for Fox, I once again felt a certain longing for the abandon shown by some of my counterparts who dismissed any concern over what are now roughly 100 criminal charges against former President Donald Trump in four different indictments. It was like watching a party through a window that you could not join.

I cannot say that I have ever been much of a party animal. However, there are times when being a legal analyst is like being the designated driver at a rave party. Everyone seems to have lampshades on their heads as you furiously google-map the safest route home.

Nothing to see here: Special counsel obtained Trump's Twitter DMs despite company's efforts to block access

A federal judge suggested Elon Musk wanted to 'cozy up' to former President Trump

Special Counsel Jack Smith obtained former President Trump's direct messages on the social media platform once known as Twitter, despite the company's efforts to block access.

Unsealed court filings show that Smith's team obtained location data and draft tweets in addition to the former president's messages. Attorneys for the company, now named X Corp., attempted to block and delay the effort in January and February, however, leading one federal judge to speculate that X owner and one-time CEO Elon Musk was attempting to ally himself with Trump.

U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell held the former Twitter in contempt of court and fined the company $350,000 in February, records show. Transcripts from in the courtroom also show the depth of Howell's frustration with the company's legal team.

Central Asia: The prime battlefield in the New Great Game

So long as Russia and China remain the region's dominant political and economic powers, the Central Asian heartland will remain a US and EU target for threats, bribes, and color revolutions.
Central Asia
© The Cradle
Samarkand, Uzbekistan - The historical Heartland - or Central Eurasia - already is, and will continue to be, the prime battlefield in the New Great Game, fought between the United States and the China-Russia strategic partnership.

The original Great Game pitted the British and Russian empires in the late 19th century, and in fact, never got away: it just metastasized into the US-UK entente versus the USSR, and, subsequently, the US-EU versus Russia.

According to the Mackinder-designed geopolitical game conceptualized by imperial Britain back in 1904, The Heartland is the proverbial "pivot of History," and its re-energized 21st century historical role is as relevant as in centuries ago: a key driver of emerging multipolarity.

So it's no wonder all major powers are at work in the Heartland/Central Eurasia: China, Russia, US, EU, India, Iran, Turkiye, and to a lesser extent, Japan. Four out of five Central Asian "stans" are full members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO): Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. And some, like Kazakhstan, may soon become members of BRICS+.

The key direct geopolitical clash for influence across the Heartland pits the US against Russia and China on myriad political, economic, and financial fronts.

The imperial modus operandi privileges - what else - threats and ultimatums. Only four months ago, US emissaries from the State Department, Treasury, and Office of Foreign Affairs Control (OFAC) toured the Heartland bearing a whole package of "gifts," as in blatant or thinly disguised threats. The key message: if you "help" or even trade with Russia in any way, you will be slapped with secondary sanctions.

Informal conversations with businesses in Uzbekistan's Samarkand and Bukhara and contacts in Kazakhstan reveal a pattern: Everyone seems to be aware that the Americans will go no holds barred to hold the Heartland/Central Asia at gunpoint.

Belarus' Lukashenko: Ukraine could lose everything

Lukashenko ukraine journalist Diana Panchenko

By choosing to fight for land, Kiev will only lose more of it, the president of Belarus has said

Ukraine could lose all of its territory if it chooses to continue fighting, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview on Thursday, adding that it pains him to see a country with so much potential ruined by oligarchs.

Towards the end of a two-hour YouTube interview in Minsk, Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko asked Lukashenko what Ukraine should do in order to preserve its statehood.

"The first step is to end the war," Lukashenko replied. "Yes, you can continue to struggle for these territories," he said, pointing to Donbass, Kherson, and Zaporozhye on the map. "I'm not telling you to give them up or anything. But choose another method. If you fight for these territories, you will lose those," he added, pointing out the areas further west.

Comment: Lukashenko opined on Ukraine's future:
Ukraine needs to stop the war and start rebuilding its statehood on a healthier foundation before it ceases to exist completely, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said in an interview with Ukrainian journalist Diana Panchenko on Thursday.

Ukraine could lose everything

Ukraine could lose all of its territory if it chooses to continue fighting, Lukashenko said, insisting that Kiev should first "end the war" in order to preserve its statehood. "Yes, you can continue to struggle for these territories," he said, pointing to Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye on the map. "I'm not telling you to give them up or anything. But choose another method. If you fight for these territories, you will lose those," he added, pointing to the areas further west.

Conflict was avoidable

"The war was avoidable... at any point in time. It can be stopped now and it could have been avoided then," Lukashenko said, noting that in 2015, he was at the heart of events and facilitated communication between then-President of Ukraine Pyotr Poroshenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The Minsk agreements should have been implemented. We agreed on everything... But they were ignored," he said, adding that Putin was "100% ready" to implement the agreements, but Poroshenko was "afraid that the wrong people would have been elected" if Donbass returned to Ukraine as an autonomous region.

Belarus will go to war if Ukrainians cross the border

Lukashenko stated that Minsk will "keep helping our ally Russia," but if "Ukrainians do not cross our border, we will never get involved in this hot war." He went on to say that dozens of NATO and other countries are backing Ukraine with military coordination, intelligence, and training, as well as ammunition and weapons supplies, while "only Belarus is openly helping Russia."

Russia has enough firepower

Lukashenko also rejected as "complete nonsense" the notion that Putin is pressing him to become more involved in the conflict. He observed that Russia has more than enough manpower and firepower to reach its goals, saying, "an additional 70,000 troops will change nothing."

Putin withdrew troops from Kiev to avoid civilian casualties

The Belarusian leader dismissed suggestions that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky protected Kiev and that the Ukrainian army repulsed the early Russian invasion, calling the idea a "fairy tale... cooked up by mass media and Zelensky himself, in order to present him as a hero." Lukashenko claimed that, at the time, Putin told him Kiev could be captured "right away, instantaneously, but a huge number of people will die."

Lukashenko noted that Ukrainian forces had deployed not only tanks but multiple-launch rocket systems in the streets of Kiev, near "kindergartens, schools, hospitals," and other public buildings. "You probably know that the Russian troops, who were on the outskirts of Kiev, withdrew from there. Did [Zelensky] destroy the Russian army there? No... He was sitting in a root cellar at the time," Lukashenko said.

Main Russian objective already achieved

Moscow has already reached the principal aim of its military operation in Ukraine, the Belarusian president continued, explaining that "Ukraine will never be so aggressive towards Russia after this war ends, as it was before. Ukraine will be different. People in power [there] will be more cautious, smart - more cunning if you will."

Zelensky ready to surrender western Ukraine to Poland

Lukashenko believes that in order to get Ukraine into NATO, Zelensky might go as far as to surrender part of the country's territory under a Polish protectorate. However, he said "Ukrainians themselves will not let it happen."

"If they come in, they will not go away, because Americans are standing behind Poland. Well, this will be Polish territory. Why would NATO not accept them in this case? It will already be Polish territory," Lukashenko said.

"This is unacceptable for us and for Russians. It is necessary to preserve Ukraine's integrity, so that the country will not be sliced up and divided by other countries. Negotiations come next," he added.

Ukraine is not Zelensky, and Zelensky is not Ukraine

Lukashenko claimed that Ukrainians are increasingly disenchanted with Zelensky, who is not a "national hero," but an image created for international audiences by the Western propaganda machine, drawing parallels to how, before the Soviet Union's collapse, the West "went into raptures about Gorbachev" in a similar fashion.

"People in Ukraine are beginning to see things clearly. And millions of people who fled the country are raising their voices saying that they want to return home and asking why the war is still going on," he said. "There is a growing understanding that Zelensky should find a way out of this situation, to put it mildly."

Only the United States benefits from the war

The Belarusian leader said the US-led forces seek to weaken Russia with the help of Ukraine:
"It does not bother them that the Slavic peoples are fighting with each other, and killing each other. It is beneficial for them. Thus, having weakened Russia, they will get closer to China from this side. That's their rationale. Zelensky is playing along. But in the end, Ukraine - a flourishing, beautiful country blessed with natural resources - will cease to exist."
In sum:

One view of the end game that seems to have a lot of consensus among the Twitterati:

Trump faces 'pardon-proof' majority in Georgia

Trump
© Getty ImagesFormer US President Donald Trump
Former President Donald Trump cannot easily obtain a pardon in Georgia if he is convicted on one or more of the 13 counts unveiled against him in Fulton County on Monday, because the state's governor does not have the power to grant pardons, as elsewhere.

Gov. Brian Kemp (R), an outspoken critic of Trump, might be unlikely to pardon Trump anyway. But he does not have the power in any case. That power resides in a State Board of Pardons and Paroles, which has five members. They are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Georgia State Senate to serve seven-year terms. And they may not consider applications for parole until a convict has already served at least five years of his or her sentence, with no other criminal charges pending.

ABC noted: "[The indictment is] effectively pardon-proof, in the sense that with a federal case, if he wins the election, he can kind of make it go away."

Comment: If there is a way up and out, Trump will make the most of it.

Former top German spy probed over plot to kill Scholz - Bild

Hans-Georg Maassen is now being investigated by his own agency, the country's best selling newspaper has reported...

Germany's domestic intelligence agency, the BfV, is allegedly investigating its former chief, Hans-Georg Maassen, in connection to a right-wing conspiracy aimed at murdering Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Bild reported on Tuesday.

According to the newspaper's story, the BfV requested data on Maassen from the German Federal Police (BKA) as part of its own investigation. The information in question seems to be linked to a phone call between Maassen and a witness in the so-called 'Reich Citizens' conspiracy case.

Bild is known to have strong sources among Berlin's political and security elites.

In December 2022, a group of alleged coup plotters were arrested by the German police in a series of massive raids in numerous regions across Germany. The suspects stocked up on firearms and allegedly planned to storm the German parliament and kill Scholz. The group was reportedly led by Heinrich XIII, Prince of Reuss, who would have taken over the reins in Germany if the coup had succeeded.

Inside YouTube's new 'Medical Misinformation Policy'

A few days ago YouTube amended their Covid19 Misinformation policy, changing it so it now applies to all things medical.

The original policy was put in place in the early days of the pandemic, May 2020, and outlawed content in the video sharing platform that "contradicted the WHO or local health authorities" concerning the pandemic:

Over the years it's been regularly updated, outright banning all "vaccine misinformation" in late 2021.

The latest revamp is the biggest so far. The new "medical misinformation policy" - no longer just "covid19 misinformation" - now addresses cancer treatments, abortion and non-Covid vaccines, according to CNN.

Biden slammed for offering 'insulting' $700 payments to Maui wildfire victims

President Joe Biden's offer of a $700 emergency payment to households impacted by the devastating Maui wildfires has been criticized as an insult to survivors.

The death toll from the US's deadliest wildfires in more than 100 years rose to 106 on Wednesday, with hundreds still unaccounted for, thousands left homeless and an estimated $7bn in economic damage.

Biden, who has faced criticism for his handling of the disaster, announced an economic relief package on Monday that included cash payments and temporary housing assistance for survivors.

Biden announced:
"We're laser-focused on getting aid to survivors, including Critical Needs Assistance: a one-time $700 payment per household offering relief during an unimaginably difficult time. We have staff on the ground dedicated to helping survivors navigate the registration process."
A White House statement confirmed the offer was only available to residents who were displaced from their homes and had critical needs.

With 1,200 families sheltering in emergency shelters over the weekend, and 2,200 buildings destroyed, it's not clear how many Hawaiians will be eligible.

It was immediately decried as too small to have a meaningful impact by some commentators.

Comment: Complete and utter failure is Biden's highest benchmark. Not even complete tragedy computes.

From Bukhara to BRICS, searching for light in the darkness of insanity

Kalon minaret

Bukhara The Noble, the "Dome of Islam", with a history stretching back 2.500 years, bears too many marvels to mention: from the two-millennia-old Ark, a fortress around which the city developed, to the 48-meter high Kalon minaret, built in 1127, which so impressed Genghis Khan that he ordered it not to be razed.

The elegant, single turquoise band near the top of the minaret is the earliest example of glazed tilework all across the Heartland.

According to the Shanameh, the Persian epic, the hero Siyavush founded the city after marrying the daughter of neighboring Afrasiab. Even before the Ancient Silk Roads were in business, Bukhara thrived as a caravan crossroads - its city gates pointing to Merv (in today's Turkmenistan), Herat (in western Afghanistan), Khiva and Samarkand.

Bukhara's apex was in the 9th-10th centuries under the Samanid dynasty, as it turned into a Mecca of Persian culture and science. That was the time of al-Biruni, the poet Rudaki and of course Avicenna: they all had access to the legendary Treasure of Wisdom, a library that in the Islamic world would only be rivalled by the House of Wisdom in Baghdad.

Bukhara was largely razed by Genghis Khan and the Mongols in 1220 (yes: only the minaret was spared). When the great Moroccan traveler Ibn Battuta visited in 1333, most of the city was still in ruins.

A New War in Africa?

Africa? A Proxy War?

Is the next major proxy war in Africa? American soldiers have already died in Niger, the result of operational and command incompetence with the full story only coming out now six years later. A lot is still "redacted". After all, they were only four, right?
US Merceneraires
© News Forensics
Right now, the Western Media sees Niger as the trigger for killing on a bigger scale -- following a coup that deposed a not very popular Western and neocolonialist-oriented President in favor of a Sino-Russian friendly regime, like that in the neighboring states of Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea. Russian flags are everywhere. And we can't have that, can we?

Ukraine was getting boring. Syria? Same old, same old. But never fear there will be a Season 2. The Writers are working on it.

The Coup clearly alarms the White House. Biden wanted to know where Africa was. Anthony Blinken blinked.

Vicky Nuland went to Niger.

Nuland, of course, was one of the architects of the neo-Nazi coup that overthrew the legitimately elected, democratic government of Ukraine because it liked vodka instead of Budweiser. It did not want to buy American.

The hypocrisy is staggering. The US has been directly or indirectly involved in coups of one kind or another all over the world. There are coup specialists. If military coups don't work, it tries "color revolutions" or some other way of getting its way. Its definition of a "democratic" government is not one that represents a people's interests -but US interests — the people be damned.

And damned they often are.

Coups are on a spectrum between "soft" and "hard". If the US can persuade a country's people to follow it - fine - if the carrot doesn't work — then there's a big stick or cattle prod or a gun.

Government of the US, by the US, for the US .

One World Under the Almighty Dollar.
